Minshaw Dogs, Is There Such A Thing?
birddog replied to Suzy Ross's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its not the first name to be used on a type or strain and it wont be the last............i wish we'd had the internet in the 70's, how much controversy would the mick douglas type have created ? -
skycat, when i come in the door from work my two are sitting in the hall waiting, they know that they don't get a hello before they're calm and sitting, i usually give them a paper or sandwich box or the like to carry in, usually to a named family member so that its not robotic and they have to think a wee bit, i get a wee kick out of training them wee party tricks like speak or smile, the rangers paw (right) and celtic paw (left) is always a winner. for the genuine guys with problems i never mind helping or hassle because (borderscot) i'm not that old that i can't remember being that keen and

thinking about my previous post, 30yrs ago it just seemed like commonsense to do it that way, now i understand more a dogs thinking ( just a little bit)......whilst mine was bringing balls etc back he was doing it for him, ie he brings ball back......... i throw it......... more fun, what i had done was turn this around by reinforcing the 'fetch command' so he got his reward, the fun part, whether it be a treat or praise by doing what i said, in retrospect i had probably been a wee bit easy to please with his initial puppy training and a little to keen to catch things, i've learned over the y

i would question the 'good enough bit' without recall 100% you've no retrieve...............long time ago i had a similar problem with a stubborn beddie x, i reinforced the 'fetch' with balls, dummies, papers, tins anything i could get him to carry apart from game........a different game with a different object every day, till the 'fetch' was everything, it took ages but it worked don't know whether it's the right or wrong way but it worked

they caught hares for sure but the purists wouldn't call it coursing, picking them out of the seat or cover, hunting them up so now law given etc, a few 1st x's are racy enough to catch them in a fair run but certainly not match dogs as we now them

Hahahahaha!! They're not sandals, (although I do like a sandal) they're Team Realtree Rubber shoes, like camouflage Crocs but with proper straps. They're my fishing shoes. As for the reel, I own a Penn multiplier and a couple of Shakespeare's that I use on the boat. I tried to cast with the Penn once, it was on the beach at Seaford. I put in to practice everything that I'd learnt and cast. I managed to actually tie my thumb to the reel with the resulting birdsnest! I've never tried one for casting since! i'd love, even pay to see you in them 'sandals' for an allnighter after cod from

in the 70's when i saw my first saluki i thought that things gonna break...how daft could a teenager be eh....................when i saw my 1st deerhound i thought wow now thats a mans dog..............the first genuine 1st x collie i saw was owned by an older guy (maybe in his 40's but we were daft laddies) gyp his name was bred in dumfries and every time we bumped into andy he had a hare or so in his pocket, i remember walking towards the cathkin braes around 8 in the morning as he was walking off depressed, his days sport had been ruined......gyp had taken 3 hares in the first 40 mins feck
