  1. She is smart. Jeans fine although she pissed me off the other night. Walked right on top of 2 squatters in a cows field and she was more interested in what the cows were doing to the side of us. She is fine with them through the day, but the first time she's lamped a field with them in. Dont get me wrong she wasnt interested in chasing them just a all new and distraction, maybe a little nervous. Anyhow when the bunnys got up she missed them, them squatters can be flyers as you know. The two that went up your way I've had a blank email from the owner the other day,so gonna send one back and try a
  2. smart bitch eh kev, looks like all the pups we know have turned out fine, how's jean ? still no word about the 2 that went together up here ?
  3. not mine kev although she's a wee belter, not too forward but nothing phases her, my mate got a new pup and i promised him i'd put pics up, i'm sure he said the mums 3/4 greyhound saluki and the dad is greyhound deerhound x greyhound beddie he'll put it up right if i'm wrong, she's gonna be a good size for sure, i'll give you a bell through the week
  4. as promised scott.............. she's a belter
  5. my mate returned home yesterday a round trip over 400miles for a pup (photos later)
  6. i'm not trying to be a prick, my bitch isn't a one species specialist but i have spent the last 4 1/2 years training her and it's ongoing, there seems to be a few on here who agree that it's training and not lack of heart. i kinda understand what your saying about a dog entered to quarry but for me it's still down to training. i certainly wouldn't argue with a police dog thats been entered to quarry (ie me) but it's handler has the ability to control it and call it off or send it on and not many of these feckers lack heart. like i said earlier there are loads of examples throughout the working
  7. I know it's not hard to train a dog but with all his talking of taking deer pre ban I didn't read that he just used his as a rabbit dog so it's nothing special at all but like Moscow had it bang on I thought he was meaning a dog already entered to that quarry and could call it off that's what my post was about. these dogs how ever you dress it up do lack heart a terrier that sticks to a fox wet and cold underground in pitch darkness for maybe a six hour dig but doesn't riot on rabbit lacks heart ? a lurcher that takes 30 arable rabbits in a session lacks heart because it's been trained not
  8. i think everyones idea of an allrounder will be different........personally i don't see the point of a pothunting dog taking on teeth with the risk of injury and time off, pre ban i'd get as much out of a hare pushed into a gate net as a roe caught after a long slip, a pheasant caught in cover for me is much better than watching a long fruitless course and a hopping bunny ignored by a dog on the lamp en route to pick up a squatter is ace..............but like i say we're all different...........she's not quite there yet but at over 4 she's getting close....heres mine
  9. get the pics up charty someone will know these people and the dog sounds distinctive
  10. i'm no amazing trainer either (my other bitch is a nutter by comparison) but it's not hard to train a dog what to chase, it's not even that hard to teach them when to chase certain things, there are many examples of this all through the working dog world but to say a dog has no or less drive because it's been trained to a specific task is obviously nonsense, there hasn't been anyone disagree with my gundog or terrier examples which to be honest are nothing more than the required norm in their respective disciplines.
  11. wm, you talk about less control when your dogs is quartering a field, when we're quietly going about our business and i'm sat gateside waiting by a net and mines is quartering the last thing i want her to do is 'riot' on an out of bounds species ie a roe and perhaps catch it a couple of fields away screaming enough to waken the dead, for me it's not about control because she could be a hundred yards or more away and it's dark it's more about basic training, and for those who harp on about lack of drive...have you never seen a real driven staying terrier that doesn't 'riot' on rabbits but conce
  12. is it much different from working a lamping dog off the lead and the handler tells it what rabbit, when he can see the sitter 40yds into the field is a better option than a hopping teaser 5 yds from home ?
  13. i have a bitch thats burst barbed wire to get to a rabbit and took 4 more before i noticed the blood from her chest, she's knocked herself out on a post chasing a rabbit so no lack of prey drive but she sits to the flush of a roe...........does this mean a spaniel or lab thats steady to flush has a lack of prey drive ?...........i don't think so........i think its more down to training and the owners attitude.......why in this climate shouldn't we have a well trained dog? my bitch has won me lots of permission because she's proved to some farmers that not all lurchers are the same.
  14. i believe in a 'fatty' (sausages, lamb ribs etc) snack (1/3 to 1/2 a meal) maybe 6hrs before i go out, my logic...dogs obtain their energy from fat so there not taking as much out of themselves.........works for me atb

  20. ive heard some crazy stories about vets and tend to stay away unless absolutely necessary, whip /grey on here gave our local vet a lesson on foot anatomy and ligaments, before i go these days i try and learn a thing or two from the web because i think if you sound like you know what your talking about theres less chance of them thinking your just another numpty there to pay for their next trip to barbados
  21. although having a natural poser helps
