  1. jezza, kieren maybe the fault isn't down to lack of experience and maybe my one word opinion has a wee bit more logic now
  2. what class would it go into at a show rough or smooth ?.........and i'm not going to be the judge that checks if he's entire
  3. i have no doubt they do grand work but the early days must have been entertaining and i suppose it would just take 1 numpty getting the wrong type of publicity to undo a lot of good work but if they ever get a lurcher section up and running and fancy a scottish branch give me a ring
  4. i think it really depends on how you define wastage? using the collie x as an example, they're bred to be allrounders able to do a wee bit of everything general potfillers, one that threw to the collie would make a decent net, ferreting and lamping (depending on the ground) but no way could it be called a coursing dog or able to take bigger quarry (preban of course mods) on a regular basis, there are those who breed and work the reverse 3/4 to get such a hound so to these guys it wouldn't be wastage, similar could be said of the ones that throw to the greyhound perhaps they'd struggle a bit wi
  5. its defo a dominance thing, my mates wee russel x humps toys, and as for the sex and food thing what about money....it's all about the money
  6. i have no doubt there are loads of guys on here myself included who'd be keen on getting involved in something like this but.........we cant agree on anything on here....stubbles better than grass.....deerhound x's are better than collie x's........raw's better than complete......rough's better than smooth......bitches better than dog's..........hancocks better than minshaws...speeds better than stamina....my pictures better than yours....etc....etc............could you imagine a commitee meeting
  7. looks a good sort, what size is he ?
  8. do a decent job for the golf course and the greenkeeper who's a cert to know the farmer will put a word in for you, as it'll be the farmers rabbits doing the damage to his course, it's worked for me twice :boogy: good luck
  9. tried for a wee while last night.....feck me it was blowin, the 210 isn't the tool for last night maybe need to get myself a smaller lamp, out for an hour this morning nailed a couple in the woods that much noise they couldn't hear us coming but forecast is to calm down to a basic monsoon tonight maybe be better
  10. smart, looks a racy type for 5/8 bull atb
  11. You lining your bitch? maybe, just looking around for a stud just now, why? just asking. What ya thinking about lining it with? My bitch broke its neck other week. Gutted! Even more gutted cause never got pup from her. storm ? what a pisher mate i'm gutted we all liked her here

  13. You lining your bitch? maybe, just looking around for a stud just now, why?
  14. aye and i'm feeling my 50 odd tonight just getting a cuppa before headin out.....must be mental
  15. cheers moo, i don't mean to be nosey but it's been a wee hobby o mine over the years looking at the way certain traits / faults are carried on down the lines or bred out, some in some lines may skip a generation, even with my own collies x's you've got to be wary of concentrating certain border collie lines because of the increased risk / incidence of some of the inherited collie faults like eye and hip problems, i'm even wary of multi using some greyhound lines that are already in / line bred but with this weather maybe need to think of a wee outcross to a seal eh
  16. thats the kinda awkward age mines was last year, had a few nights at the back end of last season and did ok but this year will tell
  17. although the pups are all looking really smart i'm a wee bit surprised at the variety of shapes and sizes, i'd have thought that breeding that close would have had a uniforming effect but smart all the same. are their temperaments / natures as varied ?
  18. a wee dog like this has the potential to be a cracking ferreting, bushing, marking type, and although i'm sure he'll get a few on the lamp and you'll get a bit of fun out lamping he's not tall enough or big enough to get regular big bags, get the best out of his natural attributes have fun over the next few years you'll both learn loads and have a ball doing it
  19. spot on, most judges are asked because theyve been around a while, had a few dogs, made a few pals, maybe won a few shows, bred a litter or two and sold the pups to a variety of people. i have friends, mates, acquaintence's call them what you will in just about every county in the uk, most judges will be the same simply because of being around lurchers, racing and showing for decades gaining the experience and respect that got them into judging in the 1st place
  20. star when they're young easy really and not just the dogs and ferrets is that pup out of jewel and todd mate ? as i got litter sister if it is pal sorry bud, the top pup is ripley x merlin a mates pup who's only 12 wks, the 2nd one is my 'belle' stan x greyhound she's nearly 2 and a big girl now
  21. just a wee query why don't you come north of the border ? there seems to be a strong interest in lurcher racing up here
  22. The last dog, is a collie x greyhound (3/8 5/8), and probably the best ferreting dog i have seen. She is eight. The black dog is 100 % whippet (well, as 100% as any of the strong working whippets are), but i big, strong lad. He's two and a half and shaping into a good ferreting dog, although he works best 1:1, and is an excellent mooching dog. The other two are a collie/whippet/grey (blueish brindle) and a line bred collie/grey x collie/grey (etc) (red brindle). and can't forget the little dogs! Russel type terrier, great for covering holes in thick cover etc. always
