  1. Nice one Jack. It goes without saying that letting your dog kill a caught rat is illegal and I know you won't be doing that
  2. Fells are Lakelands....Patterdales are Lakelands.....Lakelands are fells..... :11: The old term for a lakeland before and around the time they were registered by the KC was Patterdale
  3. Sounds like you had a good night even though a tad disappointing on your side mate. In your comment above mate, I would say muscle mass and sheer size would be the determining factors, as in my eyes, the physical aspects of the heart and lung capacity are proportionate to the dog whether big or small, if that makes sense A well muscled, strong big dog against a well muscled strong little dog is always going to do well on certain quarry, that's with heart and lung sized being proportionate and even anyway. Are you going to be looking out for some whoppers now mate?
  4. But from what I understood, borsuk work was already banned in Czech, Slovakia and Germany, which is why the Polish tests were so popular with you guys as you couldn't do it in your own country?
  5. I used to lamp with that dog all the time Simoman. He's a bit old now though but he was alright on sitters in his day :11: If they got up though he'd struggle Chart....you've got to join photobucket or something similar and upload your pics on there and then you can bang them on here mate
  6. Matulkoh, there was a really good article translated from German in the Earth Dog Running Dog magazine not so long back about Niemiecki Terier Mysliwski and they said the dogs went back to the Ynysfor terriers which were a type or strain of terrier that went on to become part of the homogenous group called the Lakeland these days, or Fell if you like. You'd have enjoyed that article. The Lakeland/Fell and Walisjskie come from the same root stock, so there's fell in there. As for Slovakia being the only country in the EU with these trials, is that true? I've attended these trials in Poland
  7. There you go again :11: We don't have trials over here Matulkoh. We just have dogs out doing the work day in day out and for a little bit longer than 25 seconds :11: Nothing about that boar work you described has anything to do with terrier work as such. There's no reason any kind of breed can't do what you have described to a certain extent. As for the earth trials, that's all they are - artificial trials. I'm not saying the dogs won't do the work, but I think a bigger test would be for you to bring your Bedlington over to some of the Welsh boys and see how it got on in a proper dig,
  8. Those farmers boys were jolly nice blokes :11: :11: Any news on those collars big fella? I'm using bells and a line at the moment :11: :11:
  9. I tell you what mate, Felicity now would do me just fine
  10. That's exactly what Sammy V said Ducky Tonedog.....I've watched Pharoahs work and they are bred to open up, so maybe not the best for these shores.
  11. Got a bit of new land during the week from some "nouveau" farmers who'd bought a bit of dirt and have designs on being the next Hugh Fearnley-Whittinstalls. I was up at 0500 and straight over there for day break and after a cup of tea, was setting the nets. The farmers boys were dead keen to give me a hand as they'd never seen anything like this before, so I put them to work setting the nets :11: It was emotional After what seemed like hours, we put the ferrets down and I was dying to see how they'd go. I'd brought two girls from LovableGit and a male I'd got off Pan.Handl
  12. Just been re-reading a few old mags and in one I came across a letter from Sammy V about allrounders. In it he said that he'd had a decent Labrador/Greyhound and also an Irish/Setter/Greyhound which were both good allrounders. When he got onto his favourite, it was an ESS/Greyhound and he went on to say this cross (with the proper training) takes some beating as an allrounder. Just thought I'd ask if anyone had any experiences of any of these crosses?
  13. Had the same with a bulldog of mine years back. Turned out to be poisoning and she came through. Hope the same happens with your dog mate
  14. I remember my bitches first rabbit like it was last night. Nice one mate, the first of many.

  17. The Aussies pretty much copy the British laws in regards to "dangerous dogs" so there are no Dogos in Australia As Tone says though, the Aussies have been breeding purpose bred pig dog for a hell of a long time now and they do the same thing as the Dogo, so they are similar in all but colour. As for Saluki crosses, I don't think they have working blood out there.

That's not strictly true though Matulkoh otherswise they'd all be running Great Danes or English Mastiffs. It's true you do need some size to pull up a good sized boar, but then again, you don't hunt like that so you don't need the size. I've seen little dogs used over in Australia for flushing pork out of the brambles but that's so that the bigger dogs can grab hold. In that situation you'd probably use a gun, that's where you guys differ. A Bedlington isn't going to be much use in holding a pig so that you can stick it, so they use the dogs they've got and for the most, do a proper good job

Matulkoh, Those lads breed their dogs for their own conditions and their own pigs and they do bloody well with them. Their type of hunting is different to yours mate and their pigs are different to yours too. I've hunted boars with bailers (baying) and luggers and more often than not have hunted with dogs that do the finding and lugging all by themselves. The dog are not supposed to FIGHT the pig mate, which is why many pure breds like pits and bullies are crossed as a fighter doesn't last very long at all. The dogs lug the pig and position themselves to stay out of the way, usually laying
  21. That'd be one of Katrina's then wouldn't it? I hear what you are saying about poisoning mate. That 1080 is nasty gear.
  22. What's your dads name on there Tone? What's the breeding on the Bandog? Seriously though mate, give Disturbed a shout on here and he'll set you straight on the running dogs over there. If you are after hares then a Stag sounds like a goer. People run deerxgrey on hares over here (or they did before the ban ) and that's essentially what a stag is so go for it.
  23. Tonedog, have you spoken to any lads on Boardogs? There's plenty of lads that keep Stags and have pigdogs too. Disturbed is on Boardogs and on here and he might be able to suggest something
