  2. Beardie cross. He's a fearless b*****d and I thank god every time I don't carry him home.
  3. This is by far the best dog I have seen on pigs and he was a one out dog. He would find and catch when other dogs were found wanting. An amazing dog to hunt with and his son by an Arab bitch isn't a bad dog either The Arab bitch and son
  4. in my very limited experience it's not always the big ones that cause the dogs a problem. It's often the ones around 70-80kgs that cause the bother
  5. Just found this for ya mate (didn't read it first so forgive me if its shite!). If I remember right, in some old books there where pics of these dogs but not photographs. The pics were of the type you see here but with the dog named, these might be the same ones but the names of which dogs which may have been forgotton. Stabs would be the man to ask. http://www.ratting.c...ml/history.html Billy was a bulldog cross bull & terrier and considered the progenitor of the Manchester Terrier, despite being a white dog. The Manchester Terrier claim means he often gets mistaken for a black
  6. Is your friend Sean Frain?
  7. He used to illustrate his own books though right.....although that was the later ones as I'm sure the one I read didn't have sketches in them. I often think that that a modern day Henry Alken would do well in today's market.

  13. Those two terriers look ever so slightly interested! I can remember when my grandad showed me how to skin the first hare we got like it was yesterday.....something that's stayed with me all my life.
  14. Kesh (right) was as soft as butter and loved nothing more than being around people. Soft as shite he was. Absolutely great nature
  15. My favourite book by Darcy. You could tell how he felt about that dog by the way he wrote.

  19. An unpublished article calIed Nostalgia For An Age Yet To Come I once wrote of a particular part of Kent that although unremarkable to the casual observer and occasional rambler, will forever hold a special place in my heart. Despite not having any outstanding landmarks to differentiate it from the other thousands upon thousands of acres of farmland and woodland in the vicinity, it is special to me by virtue of the fact that I spent so many mornings, afternoons and evenings there simply enjoying myself with a few dogs at my feet and in the company of decent lads, some of whom are still in
  20. He might be referring to the tomato sauce with the beans as tomato is a good source of potassium which is great for stamina as well being an anti-carcingen
  21. Run a search Porky. There's been some good threads about working Staffords over the last few years
  22. Not all KC dogs look like pugs though and looks can be deceiving anyway. I like a bit of leg underneath them but some of the famous old names were both kc registered (or came from that stock) and also not exactly up on the leg. I have also seen specimens that look the part that instead fell apart when out in the field.
