  1. neems where they not bred for so called pit fighting in the land of gentry? I read somewhere that he matched a dog before a show with a below par bull. and the dog or bitch won the show?? im intrigued to know as I like them An old wives tale Big G......
  2. The Bull Terrier has without a doubt had somewhat of a sporting history, especially in the days of the Empire, but it was never bred to be what the real bull terrier was. Read Kevin Kane's book I have lost count of the times I have posted the link to it on here and other forums. The Bull Terrier was a sanitized version of the real dog....the "authorized" version for the middle class pedigree conscious dog owner. I have always had a soft spot for them but I gave up with them after a while. I would love another for the work I have out here but that's a choice, not necessity. Catching pigs is som

  8. Tried to mate my little bitch a number of times to a very good hard blood whippet, but she never took and we found out later the prospective sire was firing blanks
  9. I don't mate. They are very popular here but it's a popular gripe that they aren't up to much these days in their pure form. Me and my hunting mate visited a breeder a while back and saw some nice dogs that had potential but they don't see anything other than a show ring. A few lads still use them but you don't see too many about. I'd have one like a shot. I've got plenty of work for one of those bad boys!
  10. Great to hear that these dogs are doing well in the field

  17. Wikipedia has some interesting stats on the nationality of the lads at Rorke's While most of the men of the 1st Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot (1/24) were recruited from the industrial towns and agricultural classes of England, principally from Birmingham and adjacent southwest counties, only 10 soldiers of the 1/24 that fought in the battle were Welsh. Many of the soldiers of the junior battalion, the 2/24, were Welshmen.[54] Of the 122 soldiers of the 24th Regiment present at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, 49 are known to have been of English nationality, 32 were Welsh, 16 were Irish, 1
  18. I used to take my strong terriers jogging all of the time when they were in their prime. They loved it and it kept them and me fit as fiddles. They were c**ts though and when we were running through the woods they would f**k off for ages.....I don't think I ever completed a run without stopping and waiting for the pricks to turn up again. There were Munty all through the woods, and everything else too, and they couldn't pass up a run when one was presented. This was taken after we'd got back from one run where Kesh had run a Munty into an old reservoir that was just claggy, stinky mud

  20. Shooting with rifles is one way of hunting, and hunting with dogs is another. It's nice to have the choice, and this is something we shouldn't take for granted. I shoot but I prefer hunting with dogs but I would never dream of telling another man my way is better or more 'natural'. Too many folks wear blinkers in this game and try to foist their opinions on others. I don't want to be all marxist social worker, but we should celebrate the diversity of our hunting rather than being narrow minded about what we do and how it compares to others.
