  1. There are different types of stamina though and people can often lose sight of that. A good collie will work a hill all day long and shows phenominal stamina. A good bull could go over two hours in the square and show astounding stamina. The resultant hybrid when you breed these types to sighthounds and stick them behind a hare is often a different proposition though. Different types of stamina. The thing with a lot of bull breeds is that some people do a lot of resistance training with them, thereby building up the wrong type of muscle - oxygen sapping muscle when it comes to longevity in the

  9. I've had small dogs that have served me very well but I've also had(have) biggish dogs that serve me well too. I used to have a Wheaten cross bitch that despite being a slow starter in some people's eyes was an absolute pearler when she was working. She was 20/21 inch and as hard as you'd get. Smart too, and she often accompanied me with the shotgun and was a great little retriever. Could she work the quarry that I run these days? No. So I keep a bigger dog. The youngster I run these days is a fair old lump and he needs to be. Take the blinkers off. Run the dogs that you want to and

An excerpt from the forthcoming erotic thriller entitled "Badger Digging with Worriers" The bag full of cans was still in the bus stop bin when I got off the number twelve, and I imagine that they’d caused a lot of old ladies to tut under their breath as they’d passed on the way into town that morning. The bus had been pretty empty on the way out from town, as most of the people were heading in the opposite direction to do their shopping. Less people to silently pass judgement on the fact that I was carrying a rifle. I wasn’t dressed in tweeds and I wasn’t wearing a deerstalker, which woul

That's just unkind Personally, I prefer a pure bull to a bull cross but then again I ruined a lovely pair of Bruno Magli's once when I was out on the foxes
  18. David Harcombe deserves praise indeed for not just the logistical side of actually putting the magazine together for so long, but also for the standard of his writing. In a magazine that's boasted some fantastic writers, both past and present (Phil Lloyd, Peter Tulip, Suffolk Bill, Paul Dooley, Darcy, Chris Breen, Didriksen....I could go on and on), Dave has always been the standout.
