  1. how olds the whippet mate? is it a dog or a bitch?
  2. thanks mate. i always like to try dogs that are diferrent it makes things more interesting i always think.
  3. heres a couple of pics of the pups they are 36 hours old and some fat little gits. 4 dogs 2 bitchs
  4. the dam is 21.5" and the sire is the same hieght.
  5. my small lurcher bitch give birth to her litter of pups last night, she has had 6 healthy strong pups, heres a picture of mum. shes a 1st cross alsation/whippet so i put a pedigree working whippet over her as i wanted a slightly heavier dog than a straight whippet. i will get a couple of pics of the pups put up tomorrow.
  6. heres one mate, my dog is 25.5tts he wieghs 64 pound his back length is 23.5" he is alsation/collie X whippet/greyhound.
  7. I'd where her ass out. I aint sayin its right but no matter horse, mules, or dogs gettin the sumbitches attention through fatigue has always worked for me. i agree dan, get her tired and keep her tired it will make her rely on her brain to do her work rather than her nose.
  8. 3/4 whippet it should be plenty fast enough for daytime rabbits.
  9. a good stallion can serve as many mares as the horse can handle. where the mare produces just the one foal in a year, plus they can store the stallions semen for artificial insemination. same goes for a dog, a stud dog is just the same. yes quite right ,but why do some say the bitch is more inportant in the breeding ok some will be better mothers than others , but geneticly why?apart from passing on those mothering skills! ive noticed in litters of the first crosses that if the alsation is the mother the adult pups tend to have a head that is more square in shape like
  10. i dont know about 60-40 to the bitch but i believe the bitch is the most important parent out of the two.
  11. good question. i like first cross dogs alsation/greys ive seen pups when the sire is the grey and pups when the sire is the alsation. in my eyes there is a differnce in the quality of the adult dog, the pups who have the greyhound as the sire seem to be better dogs. i think the mother gives the offspring the mental attitude and also gives the shape where as the dog contributes speed and size. i always chose a dog out of the litter as they tend to follow the father more for hieght.
  12. thats a tidy pic fence hopper the bitch looks well mate. looking forward to poping up for a nights lamping next season if the offer is still there. atb trigger
  13. i am a lamper but i do go out on ocassions with the ferrets or for a bit of mooch, my dog does enough for me in the daytime.
  14. if some 1 said to me they had this x i wouldnt have that picture in my head that is 1 cracking looking dog thanks,
  15. i like first crosses, but lurcher to lurcher can produce good dogs. theres no garantees when breeding ive seen to mongrels tied together in the street before now and they have produced good pups, ive also seen good dogs crossed together and the litter hasn't been all that good. imo there is alot of litter wastage in first crosses because most people use the greyhound for the dam. i think the litter seems to turn out better if they use the greyhound as the sire.
  16. and i take it this has been working well for you?? have you had and problems with yapping or pups getting frustrated?? ive never experienced any problems with it as of yet. The dog i have at the moement is coming up to 6years old he has never yapped on any quarry. i have another little bitch that i got give me at 5 months old so i never started her as early as i would like yaps her head off when chasing quarry. i think some dogs will yapp behind there quarry and some wont regardless of the age you start them. i would say the amount of quarry you run and how hard it is to catch plays a maj
  17. i buy a pup give it 24-48 hours of bonding time with me, then its straight out lamping with my old dog watching and learning from as young as possible.
  18. i am not to keen on the bull crosses if i had a choice out of the two i would choose the beddy cross every time, i think you get a better package with the beddy cross.
  19. a mate of mine had one i went out with it a few times he brought her in at 18months, i think she had done alot of day work as she had a hell of a good nose and would run for ever on a scent even if it was night or day. all i can say for her really is she had a good nose and plenty of stamina,
  20. just thought id post something i helped write 15 years ago about mals and there heritage for all those people who think there just sled dogs, yes uk type has change slightly to help control the bred but think this might help so here it is The Alaskan Malamute, one of the oldest Arctic sled dogs, was named after the native Inuit tribe called Mahlemuts, who settled along the shores of Kotzebue Sound in the upper western part of Alaska, within the Arctic Circle. Bone and ivory carvings dated to 20,000 years ago show ancient Malamutes almost identical to today's breed. Malamutes babysat the Mahl
