im havin a crack at makin my first purse net, had a few practice runs and now im makin a proper one. ive run out of hemp on the needle and im only just over half way throught the net! how do i start the newly loaded needle off half way through? do i just tie it on or is there a certain way of doing it?

i dont know about dangerous dogs act, i think we need a dangerous owners act. certain breeds are more likely to be agressive and capable of seriously injuring/killing people but brought up correctly and by a experinced and competant owner there would be no trouble. we (humans) made these amazing breeds and you have just gotta admire their bravery, courage and loyalty and now suposed experts are condeming them, i think thats pretty fuking disrespectful to them. jmho

i know the feeling, lol havnt had a proper days shooting in over 4 months, been ferreting once and lamping once with aload of super lamp shy bunnies all i have been able to do is get out in the country side with the binos and on my bike and i go beating every fortnight which i love becuase its pretty much all ive got at the moment. been thinking of other things that i can do that are as close to hunting/shooting as possible, ive been out looking for decent sticks to cut for beating and general mooching next year and also gonna try my hand at net making. i keep tellin myself its n

Well the only other one that was really competing with it was European Communities with just less than 30%, all the others had less than 7% of the votes So i would say that with just over 50% of the votes, the Hunting Act had the a very good majority of votes. JMO But, i agree completely about its gonna take a hell of a lot more to get the act repealed.

It probably wont make any difference, but it good to see that a vast majority are supporting us in our fight.

Thanks for all of your advice, much apreciated I think im going to get a spool of hemp to start with and then move onto spun nylon when i have got a bit more experience and confidence in my net making ability. Thanks

I want to have a crack at making some purse nets and maybe eventually a long net. My question is what strength spun nylon do most of you use? I have just got a ferreting dvd for xmas by Simon Whitehead and he was using 12z purse nets as they dont pick up as many twigs. So what do i get, 4z, 6z, 8z or 12z, and how many purse nets would i get from a 500g role of each strength spun nylon? Just dont want to spend my money without being sure ive made the right choice!

thats what i wanted it for, just dont know which models are any good, i know some give very large dots at 30 yards so would be hard to precisely estimate the range. Ive found one that looks pretty decent for what i want, SMK LS-III Hi Power Laser, £50

a village not too far from newark in the river witham. i love pike fishing, i like the roving aproach keep moving. i have only been a few times this season, because my spinnig rod has got a crack in the end eye which is freying the line and i havnt got round to getting it fixed.

What does everyone think of red dot gun mounted lasers for lamping? Ive just got myself some lamping permission for rabbits and i dont want my shitty range estimation to stop me making a good dent in the population. I would only need it for shots out to 30 yards. Which lasers are worth the money and what sort of prices am i lookin at paying?

funny you should say that, i had a rabbit cassarole last night and it was the best rabbit i have ever eaten Stevolad: im more a shooter but never pass up a chance to go ferreting, just love it, i think its the waiting and anticipation, its hard to beat

I would love to see some one really test a greyhound with lurcher work, just to see what they are really capable of, I think most people get a greyhound primarily for breeding and just work them a bit therefore not really giving them the chance to prove what they are really capable of. If anyone out there does work a pure greyhound then please put up some pics of nights lamping or ferreting and bushing trips, give us your views. I dont expect big bags on the lamp but would imagine they would do fairly well ferreting given the chance. As i have said before i havnt any experience working

It was good just to be out, all i have been able to do recently is go beating. I wish i could have my own ferrets but just cant committ to that yet, Hopefully i will be gettin in a few more ferretin trips soon.

Went out ferreting with a lad that i go beating with yesterday afternoon. We got a lift up to some permission of his after loading up 2 jills he was given and all the other ferreting paraphanalia. First warren we had 2 bolt reluctantly, they just kinda tangled them selves a bit but i was near by to grab em quick . We were using hemp nets which i have never had any experience using before, and to be honest i wasnt too keen on them, but they save sooooooo much time not having to untangle them all the time. Next warren was a smallish one with just a few bolt holes, we mangaed another r

This was the first Pike i caught this season during the summer, I caught it on my 7 foot fox spinning rod with 8 lb line and a small pike plug (cant remember the name), so fairly light set up , but it gave the best fight i have ever had. When i first hooked her i dont think she even knew she was hooked, just cruised across the river and then all of a sudden WAM, she just took off with a huge splash of her tail and tore line off of the reel :11: Any way landed her after about 10 minutes of shear excitement (understand my biggest before that was only just a doubl

In my experience it depends what type of shooting you are doing, for instance if you are lamping then you dont need a scope with a large light gathering objective lense becuase the lamp should provide all the light you need. However if you are shooting without the aid of a lamp in either low light conditions or silhoueting (spelling) then you will need a large objective lense to make the object as clear and defineable as possible.

and keeps a healthy, sustainable rabbit population as well as a good cheap meat source for dogs, ferrets and of course us our selves.

lovely dogs, dont know if its just me but i seem to be seeing more around now retired, which is good . just wondered what the rest of you think, are more people retiring greyhounds now than in the past?
