  1. Very tidy set up there spiderpig. Functional as well as theif proof (as theif proof as possible). Exactly the same as what i eventually want when i get a place of my own.
  2. Would you salt the skin to dry it first? Or simple apply the 'brain mush' to the fresh skin once it has been scraped?
  3. I would seriously consider getting a couple of ferret kits this summer pal, i garuntee you will get permission for them sorted by the time they are ready to enter and if you are unsure about the ins and outs of working ferrets someone will come and give you a hand till your confident. Hell, if you go out your way to get ferrets and permission ill come and accompany you for your first few jaunts! Derbyshire aint too far away for me for a few trips. Owning and looking after ferrets couldnt be easier either. Before you know it the farmer will let you bring you lurcher along with you and soon enou
  4. Are there no shoots local to you then? Where abouts are you in notts? I could ask a few keepers if they want an extra beater, no promises though but if i heard of a space come up and you are a genuine lad like you appear i could put your name forward... Im the only person with ferreting permission on a fairly large local shoot as im the only one trusted, that permission took years to earn and im proud of how i am regarded by the shoot land owners, keeper and shoot captain. Its led to terrier work and lamping as well as shooting. The shoot i help the keeper on and have permission to basical
  5. Best bit of advice i can give you is teach your pup about BARBED FECKING WIRE! From your first walk have the pup out in the field crossing barbed wire fences and running around the stuff, they will soon learn what it is, how to spot it and how best to negotiate it. Dont do what some do and just avoid it, the pup needs to become wise to it. There almost certainly will be minor injuries as your pup grows and when it begins work, but a wise pup is far less likely to seriously injure itself. To deal with a barbed wire injury depends on how bad it is, but they are usually just skin rips and a clean
  6. By some ferrets or start beating, all of my permissions has come through ferreting or beating. Just gain trust and respect before mentioning lurchers. Most landowners/keepers are quite happy for you to do some ferreting, its your foot in the door.
  7. When i said boring, i was refering more to this whole argument. Reading all the evidence from BOTH points of view just for everyone to have the same opinion as before. Seems like its getting no where. I read the first half but realised its not changing anything in my head because of the stuff i just cant agree with, like the comparison of non natural things like medicine being bad if we beleive a non natural diet isnt as good as a natural one. However i will say that your numerous posts on the subject of man made dry foods have slightly enlightened me on them, but im affraid nothing ive read h
  8. Good post sandymere, i didnt read it all because, well i just got bored and to be honest although i agree with alot of it i disagree with alot to and theres just too much there to comment on. You may like antagonising pro raw diet folks like myself, but the simple fact is people like myself simply disagree with people like yourself. The science will always have questionable conclusions and it simply comes down to what the individual decides to be right based on their 'common sense', logic and experience. I will simply never beleive a produced complete buscuit is better than a good ra
  9. Nothing to do with 'new age hippy' bollocks, to me its old school and makes alot of sense, simple as. We all want whats best for our hounds, raw meat diet is logically better. But thats my opinion and all that matters to me.
  10. where are you at pal? Ive got a freind thats specifically after a fell/patt bitch. Is she out of proper working stock?
  11. carries the marks of many years rossette chasing, lol. tidy hound
  12. Read both, all be it briefly. Not essential but to those that are unsure of feeding raw, BUY IT and READ IT
  13. Each to their own pal, but your vet is missing the whole concept of the barf diet. Dogs evolved on a raw food diet! Comercial pet foods have only been around 60 years or so. Basically theres no such things as a nutrient defficiency with a good barf diet. I dont understand why you feed raw but think you 'need' a commercial buscuit as well. Does your vet have much experience with raw food diets, or is it all theory? If a pup fed on raw has a nutrient defficiency then the owner has been a lazy twat and fed it entirely the same thing, like purely lean meat. Fatty meaty off cuts, bones, offal and m
  14. Pups DO NOT need any complete or mixer with a raw diet. Dont beleive what a vet says about your dogs diet, most of them know f**k all about barf and are against it purely because they cant sell you their complete food. Most vets i have spoken to tell me its dangerous feeding raw bones and i should only feed cooked, its bollocks! The whole point of a biologically appropriate raw diet is to simulate a NATURAL raw diet, bags of shite do not come naturally. My pups been fed on raw since 8 weeks old as many many others have and they are all healthier than any complete fed or raw+mixer fed dogs.
  15. I dont think he has, certainly never said he had. Im assuming they are wild birds. I feel for ya pal, but unless you have to dont take an aggressive aproach, you will just make enemys of them. Try to talk to the fuckwits.
  16. I second what hannah said, dont over think it. Lean meat, animal fat and meaty bones are the important parts. Offal and veg etc just perfect it.
  17. Down to the inividual. Purists will call you all sorts for even mentioning it but its still more sporting than shooting them. A bloke with an average lamping/rabbit dog isnt going to find hares 'piss easy' at night and almost impossible daytime on big land so i say enjoy your sport, just respect your quarry and dont hammer it on the lamp if your dog is a good hare dog. jmo
  18. A mate lost a very promising black pup in a kennel fight just before christmas, he was f*****g livid! Hes learnt his lesson, dont go through the same to learn it yourself.
  19. Exactly why it was shown i should think
  20. I very rarely just ram my hand up a stop end, f**k knows whats up there! lol. I usually probe it a bit with a stick first just to make sure. Seen stoats, rats, mice, snakes and feral ferrets while out ferreting so im always concious.
  21. taken...... and man on fire r a couple of good un`s! understatement! man on fire particularly is very good. Another film ive watched recently 'hachiko; a dogs story', not my usuall type of film but worth a watch if your a dog lover.
  22. Both are good catch dogs and the big dog little dog combination works really well on the ground we work............................
  23. As long as the carcass is out of public sight im happy as is the keeper/farmer. Finding foxes with big fuking holes in them at the side of tyre tracks in a field or in a hedge by a public footpath IS NOT acceptable!
