  1. How did the fight go? Ive been eagerly waiting for a post on it. Might have missed it
  2. cheers buddy, might be worth looking into if he pays a fair price and isn't taking the piss with what he offers. Dunno if the numbers ill be getting (last season was very poor, hopefully better this season) are worth it for him but certainly keep him in mind for the future.
  3. Agree to an extent with what your saying bird. But surely this issue would be reduced with a good/experienced dog man behind the breeding, knowing what type of bullx to put to what type of colliex to get the desired attributes in the pups. Also, surely a line bred lurcher that has both collie and bull blood would reduce the issues you mention as with line breeding bull crosses or collie crosses. I think the bullx colliex mix has potential because of the fact they are two specialists (as with the salukix bullx mix), but as you say has the potential to go the other way to.
  4. I bet he doesn't lose sleep over it....
  5. collie/grey x wheaton/grey, im hopeing the wheaton blood in her shows when needed
  6. cheers buddy shes gradually getting there
  7. cheers fellas Shes certainly caused me a few headaches over the past year! I found it really hard to bond with her untill she turned 12 months old really, she was just such a independant, stubborn f****r. But we have a mutual understanding now and have a much better bond. I think shes one of them dogs that 'works with ya, not for ya'. Its all a learning curve for us both though, the seasons just around the corner and I cant bloody wait...
  8. From this little pain in the arse... to this bigger pain in the arse... she has her faults but she a tryer thats for sure and still very much a young up and coming pup.
  9. good port this time of year when its a pain in the arse to set nets
  10. Dont need many ferrets to have an enjoyable days ferreting, not everyone is out to kill thousands. Only last season a lad put up a post, 30 rabbits with one hob! Although it is very nice being able to do those massive warrens that can take all morning and result in a very gud bag and they only really happen with a sack full of stinkers
  11. I work in chesterfield and everybody seems to have a lurcher/running dog, bet theres quite a few lads hammering the bunnies.
  12. agree 100% mate , bring some of these dogs that run sheep netted fields and stone walls up on the dales dogs that do 30-40-50 would struggle to get 15on my land guarantteed where the hedges and huge thick with cover of course:thumbs: its the land thats the major contributar to the big bag, but just cos i do a fair bit up the dales dont mean i dont do low land lamping, any body that lamps winter seed , with thin hedges know how hard they can be to catch, i live in the east mids and all the land round me is like this, in fact this is why i like a fast dog with a good mouth, and on
  13. Its a shame that there arent more genuine, properly priced litters like this on here.
  14. A few years ago when i was a kennel hand there was a little black bitch of the trainers called 'ciaras starlight', she couldnt have been more than 23" tts but had the heart of a dog twice her size. I would love a pure grey like her to bring on as i would a lurcher, one day maybe...
  15. Hell of an attitude youve got, atb with the fight
  16. oh to have open warrens...... 90% of my warrens are under blackthorn, hawthorn and bramble
  17. A decent stick and a knife. The more shit i take the more i end up wishing i had left it at home
  18. OK well done usually good rabbit holding land the landowners will have someone willing to take over when there's rabbits wanting controling especially in your area Y.I.S Leeview In my experience there are very few genuine men about who the land owners trust these days, in many cases landowners or particularly keepers would rather deal with the problem themselves with a rimmy than let someone they arnt sure of on their land. Not always the case mind you, I also know a few landowners that litteraly let anyone who turns up on!!!
  19. alright, but seeing as i was the only one that said how many commands i use i naturally assumed your post was aimed at me. Now i understand the context i completely agree with you. Happy?
  20. Im not talking about working the dog with the whistle on the lamp, that would be daft. Im talking about day time, its usefull to be able to turn your dog when its hunting about. But thats just my way, im far from an 'expert'.
  21. 3 pips for a 'recall' and 1 pip for 'turn'. the turn whistle command is a new one and one im still working on, coming on steady though. They're not spaniels so obviously have their limitations but non the less more than capable.
  22. Im going to throw a question to you all now... Do you think the standard of working ferret would be alot higher if more people worked rats with their ferrets? I couldnt give a f**k what people think about weather or not its cruel to use a ferret for ratting, just weather this would improve the quality of working ferrets? When a ferret is entered to rat it really sorts the wheat from the chaff! Ill admit non of mine will work rat other than possibly my hob but he hasnt been given a fair chance to be honest, certainly not seasons of work. I would travel a hell of a distance for a couple
