  1. i like the first and last two myself... cheers for the comments guys. I didnt view the pic properly so didnt appreciate it up till now. That second to last is a good one, I like the way im drawn to that statue at the bottom. Clever bit of photography with that pic imo
  2. Old wives tales are rife amongst the hunting community no matter where you are, its usually the sort that know feck all but the one time they actually have been out has turned into a lifetimes experience to all those who will listen at the local. Sad fact is, newbies who start asking about get directed to these clowns and believe them. Only the other day I was told by a shooting man in the pub about how to make a terrier bay. It involved a cat and a washing line...
  3. whats the warm soap for mate, lol eh i think i may need to watch my spelling just out of interest what would you expect to be paid for a syndicate shoot of average 40 to 60 bird days, guns standing all day ? 15-30 quid, brace of birds, bit of snap (pork pie and drink etc). All depends how long you have been beating for that shoot, whether you have a dog and how generous that shoot is, lol.
  4. Its a cruel and outdated wives tale and we should all do our best to put the uneducated straight. Ive got a hob I found a few years ago and all his canines are broken, either though work or the twats that dumped him. That ferret will murder any rabbit that is stupid enough not to bolt and is by far one of the best ferrets ive ever worked. Broken canines dont stop a ferret killing, just make the job a little slower. IMO its a disadvantage, certainly not an advantage in anyway.
  5. Its not just dog lads driving around in 4x4s anywhere they want. Lads with rifles are doing the same! Which beggars belief as I certainly wouldnt want to be caught with a rifle somwhere I shouldnt be and also its an accident waiting to happen. Either way its a bad crack to be driving where ever you want and causing a mess to our countryside. Driving stubbles and paddocks is one thing, ripping up crops is another.

That is the law as it stands, however I will add that a terrier is not allowed to kill the fox, simply bolt it. The law is a joke and Tony Blair admits it was his biggest mistake. Reading it makes you wonder whether those that wrote it actually bothered to try to understand what they were so passionate about banning.
  7. Yeh, but the first 3 post tbs having a convo with himself? Can I not see some posts or summat? edited to add, 10/10
  8. eh???? what are you smoking and can i have some? Glad im not the only one doubting my sanity with this thread!
  9. theirs a few alaunt mastiffs greys owners on here ,also mastiff has a few ,they are be doing the job I stand corrected then. Still wouldnt call them a bull cross. Theyre alaunt crosses.
  10. probably break my heart if i lost my three legged jacker, enough for any man to jack it all in i would say Thats why when choosing a pup I make sure it has at LEAST four legs! The hurt isnt so bad when they have four legs
  11. I kinda agree, but I also understand the statement for what it is. The dogs that try that little bit harder are the ones that really impress most of us, the 'do or die' merchants are a pleasure to watch but often an emotional rollercoaster. Its this type that tend to kill themselves before their time, the same type so many of us admire. So thats where I believe the saying, the good die young comes from. However, it is of course comforting whether appropriate or not. The dog might have been a three legged jacker, the mutt must still have meant something to its owner and as such 'was a good
  12. "Dump it or shoot it" - Very Nice, good publicity for coursing that. Agreed! Anybody that hasnt the balls to do whats right by a dog and so dumps it is a f*****g coward and scum! Even a jacker deserves a clean ending.
  13. Put it this way; I would hope no one would cross a friggin mastiff to make a usefull running dog, its very hard to find an decent ebt that would contribute significantly to a cross and a staff based lurcher should be called exactly that a 'staffordshire bull lurcher'. So what does that leave us with? And of course no body uses any illegal blood because we are all good boys and girls... hope that helps, we all ask the same question when first learning about this cross
  14. With shit like this it makes me thankfull im just a little fish. Ill leave all this to you 'proper' dogmen, while us mere mortals just enjoy grafting our dogs.
  15. The lads that keep and breed their own stock tend to know when their line are ready to enter, also knowing how matured mentally their pup is. If the ancestors are unknown then the rule of thumb seems to be 14-18 months. Ive known of a few dogs entered much much later and did well enough. Dogs can be entered too soon but too late is certainly debateable.
  16. Give it time, its a bull cross thread afterall
  17. Ive seen a couple work on the lamp, and ill admit I used to be somewhat 'anti-bull' down to the stereotype associated with them. Im quite the oposite now, but what I will say is a good one is an impressive hound but a bad one is a bloody liability and best shot as soon as it becomes aparrant! There good and bad in all crosses but these dogs have power, ability and drive like few others and as such when it all goes tits up the consiquences are often much worse. I think testing the temperament of these dogs is equally as important as testing the ability. I would feel more comfortable having
  18. Thank you for the good comment, the insurance is £85 F/Comp and P/N/Claims a year for me which is due on this Wednesday so would like to sell by than or ASAP , if you are interested you can aways PM me with a price so don't be shy i can only say no I would have to add at least 1 zero to that insurance quote! And that would be just for 3rd party fire and theft! Good luck with ya sale and I would say you have the price about right
  19. I know Scotland is different, It doesn't affect me so I'm not really bothered, but this legislation isn't about easing restrictions on specific breeds, it's about placing them on all breeds... Now it doesn't take a genius to work out how this could be used against someone who's dog is caught chasing something it shouldn't be... And we all know scotish law is a testing ground for english law! So if it works we can expect similar south of the border...
  20. cheers Shes an obedient little fecker for a terrier, hopefully make a decent enough fox dog. Should be a handy sort for having on the quad with me while doing the rounds on the shoot.
  21. 5 month But it wont do any harm waiting till 6 or 7 month. I wouldnt have tried her at the age she was in this pic as I hadnt seen an ounce of preydrive in her up till then, it all came out though as soon as she smelt that rat, drew it from under a slab.
