  1. no need to be sorry ,im sorry that we will be loosing the knowledge of the many professional stalkers who will not pay for these certs this is only my opinion and each to thier own 2434me, i'll have to disagree with you. Its not about slating someone because of their opinion. i could quite happily sit here and slate you...who are you to tell us all how it is and how it should be. Throughout the post you've twisted it to sound as though your opinion is the only one that matters. Yes you may well be in a deer job which gives you more punch to your opnion, but so too am i, a very good one.
  2. I think its obvious which way your going! Like ive said throughout the post, its OPINION, nobody is right, nobody is wrong. There are alyways pros, and always cons. Not just money, rich blokes etc (these are factors, not reasons)I think germany have it spot on regarding the length of their courses, it means you really are trained not just taught! Now i'll repeat myself. People complain about deer populations exploding. So theres an area of ground come up riddled with roe, its let...only to someone "qualified". Qualified for what exactly! they have dsc1 and dsc2 which took them less tha
  3. Id argue that money has got plenty to do with it, in fact id argue that unfortunately money has got a lot to do with most things in life. You can rant all day, but at the end of the day...you cant tell me that DSC whatever level, isnt a money making scheme. Go and look in your shooting times magazine and look at all the ads "Accredited witness stalking available". There are many arguments, im not saying your right, im not saying your wrong, what i am saying is....chill out!
  4. Harry mac, well done ,that was brilliant,I loved the way you put that together. I think that I would add that the second lot of folks who tend to call for tests are the plebs at the bottom who gained their stalking the hard way. They are trying to reduce the competition from others wanting to get in on the action. I'll jump on that band wagon! Agree with Harry mac, more so after the way he worded it! With Regards to flytie, exactly...look at it from the other side, BUT, remember we're now in the times of people jumping up and down about the amount of deer roaming our countryside
  5. Thanks for your views guys, especially Bryan and Steve. I feel as though youve certainly hit the nail on the head. How someone of vast experience cant get a look in on new ground because he hasnt got a DSC1. Yet someone who fancies themselves as a "country gent" on weekends with more money can scoop it up having sat in a classroom for a few days. Lets be honest, with a little luck on the shooting, DSCL1 is really not that difficult to pass.
  6. Thankyou for your response but i didnt start the thread to achieve anything. It was to get everyones views, as simple as that. I understand what your saying though, it would beneficial if anything to have something to seperate the recreational guys to the professionals. Like you say though, trying to get some of the hardened professionals to take a course on deer management may be difficult & to be fair, why should they? These are the things that should be talked about! All the best!!
  7. Time to open up a can of worms!!! What are your views on all the management courses and schemes you can join and go on. I wanted to ask because hand on heart i really dont know what good theyve done. Before i get slated for that openeing sentance, YES, they have helped, no doubt. People with no clue, now have an idea. Whats it all about though, this is just my OPINION. Im very fortunate to work with deer all day every day. Clients we take out range from having no paperwork to DSCL1, L2,A Witness to fully blown everything and hand on heart there is no great difference on quality of clie
  8. Cheers people will take a look. Its not a bad price, but its not great either. For that money i want it 110%. can put a lot of work his way too so really outpriced himself in my opinion
  9. Does anyone know of a good taxidermist preferably midlands/east anglia area, although not greatly important as there could well be a steady supply of deer work each year. Work needs to be quality and well priced. The taxidermist currently used has just quoted £365 for a muntjac to be done which is getting a bit cheeky, dont get me wrong, superb work, but getting a little expensive now.
  10. Has anybody bought this book? Just wanted some opinions on it before i know whether its worth spending the money on? ive enjoyed DDTWB and Little dogs with Big hearts, is it similar? Pictures? etc
  11. There will be bigger bodied wild stags out there in the wild for sure, norfolk especially. Stag in the picture was probably 160kg clean carcase, around 300kg live
  12. Show me a stag with a decent mane in summer whilst their growing their velvet and i'll hold my hands up, but cant say ive ever seen one with what id call a mane until building up for the rut. Id say its a very real stag. 44 points. Myabe not pretty in some peoples opinion, but certainly real
  13. The biggest stag youve ever seen? As opposed to the smallest stood next to it!
  14. Hi everyone, ive just signed up..thought it about time! Im 25years old and work as a deerkeeper. Im a keen stalker obviously! Own a young Teckel which im really impressed with. Do a little terrier work when i can. On the whole though true country lad, shooting, stalking, ferreting the lot!
