  3. iv used the heat before to straighten my stick and worked a treat at the time, only over a few years the bend has come back in it again (long continus bend), will the same method work again? Ive a little boiler which i steam the bend over, then quickly put it into a jig on the clamp for 10 seconds, perfect!!! Stick forum, do it! i think it would prove reasonably popular
  4. Theyre lovely Ade, i just bought that book...its a bible!
  5. Right then Where i work we dont have Roe, so i have just purchased a bit of Roe Stalking back in the Cotswolds on a pheasant shoot. Lovely looking ground, scenic and counted 27 Roe their the other evening, some nice bucks, some poor bucks, the normal. What im hoping to do is sell some of the stalking, accompanied to get some of my money back, I wont complicate things by charging for weight of antlers etc, just keeping it simple! Outing fee is £50 Cull animals £25 Representative head £125 Trophy £375
  6. carve a dowl into the top of the stick, then drill a hole into the antler that the dowl will fit into
  7. If you've just cut the the silver birch you'll have to wait nearer 18 mths before the sticks seasoned properly. The sap in silver birches is well and truly rising now, hence the longer time to season them. Cheers OBE I was just thinking that, its too late to cut all sticks now isnt it, including hazel?
  8. Ive jumped into the world of stick making two feet first and quickly realised that all the antlers ive picked up in the park are mostly too big for stick making! has anyone got any scottish red antler or sika, preferably coloured up that they would be willing to part with for a sum? PM me if you think you can help, many thanks Tom
  9. Use the wedding.....ideal present Or if you think the antler is hard enough (check the tips on the tines) just power wash it off, it is possible, i do it quite a lot at work. Then just colour them up yourself with pottasium permanganate crystals, job done!
  10. Any good taxidermist can treat the velvet, you would be better off putting it into a freezer finding a taxidermist that can do the work your after and then get it to him as and when you want to
  11. Id go with Tel1's comment, the only other thing would be an old injury but for that amount of fluid to be in it i doubt it very much.
  12. Ive had a reasonable start to the season, taking out most of the rubbish at the moment. Ive always found that success is down to research. I could take you to bucks tonight. I work in a deer job so its a little easier for me, you just need to to know your ground and you'll find your deer and their routines. Obviously it helps if you have good numbers, if youve got 200 acres and only 10 roe on it you dont want to be shooting many bucks!!! With regards to the colour of a spaniel, deer are almost completely colour blind and so a spaniel isnt neceserily a bad choice because its colour variatio
  13. Hi Daniel I too stalk a lot in Oxfordshire and surrounding counties. With regards to Deer dogs, i can only speak of personal opinion. A spaniel providing it gets the right training is a more than useful deer dog. I feel as though people get too caught up in the "what dog for deer" debate. It really is only personal opinion. I myself use a teckel, which is a cracking little dog, but would have probably been a nightmare had i not kept on top of her. I know of people who have used labradors, spaniels, Ridgebacks and even labradoodles to which they have had great success with. So i do

  16. Now on e-bay Anyone that PM left it a bit late, did say id put it on if there was no interest and there wasnt any until 9:00, that and i was out all day As for what they're all worth Dig deep i guess people talk "about" £60 Little dogs seems cheaper "about" £45 Terrier work is quite dear "about" £65 So if you have all his terrier books, you might be looking at £170

  18. John has a b itch and she aint registered with the teckel society let alone the KC. Tommydeer wants a KC registered one.......he will struggle to find a KC dachshund from working imported parents I know some people dont like the teckel society ideals......but really they are just a register of imported working teckels, My dog is a cat A teckel society registered dog bought from a member on here and the stud dog owner is also a member and both work their dogs where i do agree with tommydeer is they are truly versatile, and can do lots of things, a true jack of all trades and when sp

  20. Hi people Some are For them i know and Some against, i dont think you can really comment too harshly on one though until youve had one. I have to confess that i was once one of those people who didnt think too much of them...then i bought one...now i'll never look back! As a universal dog i think theyre incredible. Whatever you want from it, you'll get with a little patience. I know of them to pick up, track wounded deer, go to ground on foxes, obviously go to ground on badgers on the continent etc theyre a great size, cheap to keep and have that rogue of a personality that a teerier
