  1. Never posted it at the time but thought it would help kick off a trend of storys again! This was last rut, was having a lot of problems with bucks on the outside of the park fight with bucks on the inside. The result was a very buckled chain link fence, obviously the bucks on the outside here have a superior body weight to the ones on the inside. You can feed all the concentrate and silage in the world in a park but theres no substitute to wild forage, all the bramble, wheat, beans etc in the surrounding area makes a huge difference. Anyway, we had just re established the deer leaps around
  2. Know what you mean Matt, apart from yourself, Martin and Foxdropper not that many people post too regulary. I for one should probably post more but have always been happy just to post the odd photo. Its different when its your job day in day out, be like writing an on-line diary! I think some have been lost to the SD, have to admit though, its more enjoyable reading it on here. The other sites seem to be more £ related and everyones an expert! Its not the easiest time of year to be shooting deer now either, the cover and crops are well up and only really roe bucks are in....muntjac cant be
  3. Well done chaps, cant imagine there in bad order with all that food in the fields FD!
  4. Well done Martin, looks just the job.Very best of luck and hope you've got yourself in better health after the accident
  5. PM's replyed too, cheers for your interest chaps
  6. Unfortunately locals will be given priority and because of the type of location its difficult to have a quantity of people out at the same time. Its more about the right people for a few hours each week as opposed to the number of people out at a given time
  7. move house rossi! Looking for one, maybe two people to cover quite a large area, lots of squirrels. If they did well there would be a thankyou at christmas
  8. Is there anybody that would be interested in doing some vermin control (squirrels) in the Sevenoaks area on a weekly basis? Regards Tom
  9. And again chap...its a deer stalking forum, i think you'll find foxdropper is just frustrated at people not using the forum for what its here for. He has made hundreds, if not thousands of posts which have been of great interest and benefit to others, so too have others. You can bring all the vocab you want to the table but the simple fact is.....your only impressing yourself
  10. Two words......grow up......please dont air your dirty laundry here chaps, most of us really dont care. We're here for a deerstalking forum, not a points scoring session
  11. Tidy little buck....certainly with at least one brow tine. Top photos Martin
  12. If there is a small density of animals in the area then chances are there wont be too many males for him to compete with. In the past ive seen bucks which have gone well over 70 cic without a scrape on them. With regards his age, muntjac bucks are a lot easier to age than other species of the same gender due to the length of their pedicle. Each year when they cast they lose a little off it, thefore you'll notice young bucks have a much greater length of pedicle compared to the older boys who are often a lot closer to the skull.
  13. Photos from the other evening, only had about 15 minutes of really good light.
  14. Bodyweight always helps but the Japs are generally the smaller of the sub species of sika. For a Jap he's got good bodyweight, but his antlers are what really make him, good length and thickness from the base to tips, theyre almost bladed with a point off the back and a grain to the antler. Its typical of animals of New forest origin, its not uncommon to have sika spikers with 3,4 or even 5 points. Generally outside of the New forest you get animals with what you would call a more correct looking antler, tubular like with the odd ridge on the older animals ( with the exception of animals from
  15. Caught this chap the other day, just in time for the rut too. One of the better sika spikers ive seen for a long time.
  16. Congratulations FD, its nice to complete the 6, looks a nice animals too
  17. Areas like the one Martin has posted tend to be favoured by muntjac, scrub land with blackthorn and thick hedges with good rough ground. We always found them to use the hedges as go betweens, we used to stalk one piece of ground and you would guarantee to see one up each hedgerow, and this was on headlands of large arable fields, some up to 100 acres in size. Quite often see them in the middle of fields, but not huge fields, the biggest one being maybe 40 acres in size, just grass fields after being cut for hay/silage. Normally in these circumstances though the density of animals is quite
  18. Cheers guys, nothing as yet trying everything. Even went out and bought 5 live catch rabbit traps! If anyone is after any i got a good deal on the internet for them. Kent wool growers wanted £30 each, i got 5 for £55 off the net...worth it if they work
  19. Had a bit of a nightmare, the mrs pet ferret had got out this morning and its not been seen since, no rabbit holes in the area and looked all day. Been chucking it all day and put out a couple of big pipes with hay and food in too see if he'll curl up in there. Ordered live catch rabbit traps too! In the mean time, ive already started to look for a replacement or two maybe fearing the worst. They'll have a great home and be worked in the winter months, happy to pay for some decent stuff, ideally polecat x ferret. If anyone can help please get in touch, or if you have any other ideas on
  20. Agree with you 100%, you think your a hardened country hunter but every now and again you get a reality check and it does you the world of good, just shows you've still got a heart chap, when you get that feeling, you know your in it for the right reasons! Well done for not letting it rot away on the side of the road
  21. Personally im never out in full cammo. Green or brown trousers, then a green top, whether its swazi in summer or nomad in winter with a flat cap. Too a degree deer are colour blind. They rely on seeing movement and shapes, so yes cammo breaks up your shape a little better but im sure if you stand still and be patient it'll work just as well! I find it quite funny watching people come out stalking wearing head to toe face masks, gloves, balaclavas etc each to their own though, whatever works on their ground!
  22. I would of lost the plot a long time ago! Im in no doubt that a lot of it is just people wanting to be in Johns position....if not, go out and spend your time stalking rather than sitting on here typing negative things about another member Dont get me wrong, sometimes i think "OK John", but mostly it keeps the forum going and interesting videos to watch, just be sensible chaps, because some of you act like a right bunch of
