The two that I had down had a rabbit trapped in a dead end I waited for about 30min and there was no sign of them which was unusual on that piece of ground as they are quiet small burrows with only about 10/15 holes and the ferret would usually appear every 10mins or so, so after no sign for 30mins I located them to 3 to 4 foot down and dug to them and 1 very alive rabbit.
One of the bits of land that i'm on back's onto the beach and the hole's are all dug in sand the rabbits seem to bolt well out of them I have only had two lay up's on that land, the sand itself is not bad digging but the hole is constantly filling back in as the sides keep on giving way, all in all its not to bad better than digging clay!
Aye it was all good Ian, just waiting for the big skien's of pinks and grey's to arrive so I can get the big gun out again try out some of my new homeloads.
Happy hunting chief!
Was out last night for the first time this season with some success had about a dozen Wigeon decoy's and 8 or so Teal decoy's out just in front of my favorite reed bank. I then tucked myself into to the reeds standing in about 3foot of water and waited for the flight to begin while I was waiting there was plenty packs of wigeon flighting around whistling among there self’s none taking any interest in the decoys but as the light started to fade in dropped a mallard which was taken at about 25/30 yards out and retrieved. I then had a quiet spell for about 15 mins till 2 teal suddenly dropped
About 6 years ago my mates dad let his ferrets out in the back garden while he went to his local for a pint when he came back his hob had gone it had managed to dig its self out under the fence. It was found the next day walking around in the bar of another pup at the other end of the village. 2 weeks later it escaped again to be found by a old guy who had gone to the toilet in the same pub it was found the first time. after that ferret was the talk of the village the furt with a drink problem.
Hope you get yours back chief
I might be heading up to the ground this weekend was up there a couple of weeks ago and the grass was far to long to run the nets out we'll find out this weeknd though.
West coast, central, gods country? your both wrong its the north east's gods country but Netrigger's right
cracking looking kits there chief hope you do well wi em.
We only got on that piece of land just at the end o last season so haven’t had the ferrets up yet, just been up lamping and walking it through wi the gun but from what I’ve seen I don’t fancy putting the ferrets down some of the holes directly on the dunes. There are a lot of big warrens on the edge of the boundary fields so we’ll start on working them. We have close on 900acres so shouldn’t be hard to find other big warrens off the sand, not keen on digging a ever back filling hole in sand.
Aye theres still a heap o rabbits there we've been out with the lamp and gun a few times and the grounds just movin wi em cant wait to get up there wi the ferrets n longnets
Cheers Ferretlove il keep an eye on them.
We have some land between winnyfold and colliston Jock and right along the dunes between Newburgh and menie but im not sure how long that’ll last with Trump building the golf course at menie. No we haven’t got dogs my mate got rid of his lurcher 3 years ago cos we stopped ferreting the worst thing he ever done he's on about getting another dog next year now we've started again. Do you work the dog’s chief.
I’m from just beside Ellon Jock I take it your a north east lad as well,
The jill came into season early on ferret love and I got her the jab that was before I got the albino I thought it might be because the poley has never had young herself and she's not quite sure what to think of them coz the albino has certainly had litters in the past and she just mothers them, hopefully she will come round though.
Cheers FK, I thought that would be case, thought she would be alright with me though coz she has a right go at my fingers whenever i open the cage n she's totally not intrested in playing around with the others just sits in the corner sulking.
Alright guys Meikle here, just joined the site n just getting back into ferreting after a few years of doing alot of wildfowling wondering if any of you had had any of your ferrets get upset by new arrivals. What the problem is is that I got ma first poley jill about 3/4 months ago at the age of 9months and she was good as gold never bit once or even offered then i got another a month or so later an albino jill at 3 years n they got on fine. Now i've just got 3 8week old kits on tuesday night the albino just mothers them but the poley is totally out of sorts she's started biting n guards her
Cheers guys, the site looks good have been viewing a few of the posts over the last couple weeks n now have decided to join there is a good bit of info and topics to learn about. I used to do some ferreting a few years ago and am now starting to get back into it again have just got an albino & a poley 4 months ago both jills and got 3 young 2 jills and a hob on Tuesday night.
I also enjoy a lot of wildfowling and livin on the north east coast of Scotland we have some good shoreline to shoot on, through the summer im normally out for the pigeons n that’s about the stretch of it.
