  1. 6 pages of this breeds working abilities and you ask if the dogs were doubled up? I doubt they'd be posting about the dogs if they couldn't do the job do you?plummer did nd he wrote books on itstop reading plummer books then. .I can't see how 2 dogs is anything but a hindrance. ......... Stop reading his books. Lol. He created the breed so if it came from doubled up dogs then why not ask? I'd rather have a single handed dog too. How do you know Plummer doubled up?
  2. Steve, "VANDAL" influenced the working ability of many plummers and most known earthdogs can trace him in their pedigree's, unfortunately he was a very aggressive little dog that could only work alone most of the time, I owned a "double" bred dog "DANNY" that was a lunatic with other dogs once we caught or he was dug to, I have deliberately bred away from this line (REMLAP) because of the aggressive temperament he passed on along with his working ability. VANDAL was worked and owned by Bill Mossman who due to work commitments gave him and a few bitches to Derek Palmer, who then formed the "R
  3. Vandal came to me from Leicester jimbo. I gave him and a couple of bitches to Derek when I packed in due to work commitments preventing me from keeping them busy enough.Crystal was his daughter by Troll. The line is still alive and working well. Put some pics of your stuff up pal, its nice to know the blood is doing good in other lines.
  4. Yeah. I know of a couple of plumbers that will fight at the drop of a hat. Met some nasty plasterers and a psycho bricklayer once as well.
  5. Its Genetic mate. If both parents carry it roughly 50% of pups will have it. 25% will not have it but will carry the gene and 25% will not. If only one parent carries it, no pups will have it but 50% will carry the gene.
  6. Same here. Snares all over the countryside in those days. The place we used to take pelts would take them rolled up and frozen or dried. Got burned down by antis in the end.
  7. Dogs afraid of the dark?? Heard it all now....
  8. It can make a difference. I had one of the original Taffy pups many years ago. Bit more scatty and immature until about 18 months old than a lot of border crosses. Turned out a decent bitch though. She did quit cold on rabbits at about 6 1/2 years old,but still liked other quarry. Marked fox to ground really well and would locate the terrier like a finder.
  9. Good old huntin life. Always a c**t waitin to pop up Always one.............Makes em sound hard as though, testosterone r us..... Turning out a nice pup.
  10. Bed/grey x whippet cross working collie. Nearly 14 now, time for an apprentice.
  11. Intelligence in any dog can be down to its owner as well as breed.
  12. Qz has his sires head for sure! I've said it before CS-get him over a strong working whippet and put me down for a bitch!
  13. I think they would suit me and the ground I run. They'll run on most ground.
  14. Excellent post Skycat. Refreshing change from some of the advice given on here! A lot of dogs seem to be taken into the field with only rudimentary training. (At best.)
  15. No not summer-early season-September.The seasoned one is the arse end you see disappearing into the distance.Which one do you slip on? If the rabbits are taking no notice of the lamp, chances are they are young at that time of year is it not? Unless you have access to land that is never lamped-even then they are green rabbits are they not? Thats the point. Simple.I can tell tell green rabbits from well lamped rockets or a sept cub from a wily old fox. Age is immaterial with rabbits really-they dont bite. (not often though I had a finger opened to the bone one night ) No more to say on the su
  16. the thing what makes me laugh is I know fully well that if a lad had a young dog he needed to start off ...............he/she preban wouldn't be looking if its this years fox...........if they have squeeled a fox right in .......whever or not its this years or not,.........on the lamp/daytime......that young dog will be slipped .....guaranteed,...........with the adrenalin going and one looking right at you 15 ft away,.....they will slip.... :yes:and what I don't get is that this years cubs wont bite.lol...........I can tell you that preban in September a cub bit a hound and it was enough for

  18. You seem to be confused as to the topic. No one is talking about entering a dog too young-the question was how to enter a youngster when its ready to start, without an older dog FFS. You obviously have no idea other than putting them in at the deep end with an older dog do you? Others with an open mind are merely saying that they make it as easy as possible for the youngster. And if you think an August/September cub will put up a fight like a big old dog fox,you are talking out of the proverbial pal. They have neither the strength nor the bite. How would you enter a youngster (ready to go,not
  19. big cubs.???..........ive always identified cubs as being smaller than adults.............the only advantage of running this years foxes is that there green and would be easier to take with gun and of coarse a dog in certain countries,.............but there is no sport for a dog taking young cubs,...........there will always be accidents ,..........but too purposely take cubs for bringing a young dog on is imo the wrong way,..............sooner or later a dog will get a bad bite ,.............. start at the right age (depending on the breed of dog and your own knowledge) and start off with ano
  20. The lad asked how to enter WITHOUT an experienced dog. Theres nothing wrong with entering a young dog on august cubs-you can get them close enough to distinguish from wily old dog fox. Its all about early victories for a youngster to build confidence for the tougher ones. A dog entered gradually will have more chance of making the grade than throwing in at the deep end-that goes for any quarry.
  21. Read the article again folks-it has already been done. I think it was Bell laboratories the bait manufacturers that carried it out. Very effectively by all accounts.
  22. i know what you're saying but it's getting to the stage where they are going in the head. he needs to get a stud dog with no remlap in it sum thing like okefild Vinny over a bitch then then back to remlap How do you mean going in the head?
