lurchers or terriers, if it was lurchers there were some strange decisions, look like it was trying to balance everything out. i think there were lurchers with bad conformation / make up getting rossettes, im not just a bad looser but there was in my opionion bad decisions, but a great day had by all and with out the judges it wouldnt of happened , The problem with judging lurchers is people dont run there hands over the dog or see the bad feet, when judging runners you have to judge them as if you are going to take them from the ring to the field and work them ,only in the veterans yo

When you get numbers like that the rabbits are plague proportions ,i had some permission years ago and with 2 dogs took over 50 rabbits from one field ,and week in week out took massive numbers of bunnies,we used a motor bike battery and they give up a long time before the dogs ,i used to think because of some quirk of nature they had no fear only running half hearted ,i no there are some lads on here who will vouch for this but i think the best night was 8 hares 60 odd rabbits with 2 dogs run single handed ,bit older and wiser the only way to trial a dog is to go on a well lamped golf course

I hope the future holds well for the bedlington ,they have suffered from to many experts and not enought work ,there are some acters and some good lads own them but the only way is to breed of good earth dogs not 5 minute wonders and jibbers ,if you breed shit to shit you will end up with a pile of it

Cheers for the replies had ferrts 40 years and this one is a new to me ,i thought that once the hob had mated them they came out of season so he would not bother them again [if they were,nt in season he would not be interested in them]my last 3 jills never got mated and all died in there 9th year and worked all there lives is it worth it 9 is a good year for a ferrt they never got infections through being swollen or had any aliment
-
How long should the Jill's be in season with a vasectomised hob in with them do they stay in season for a while or come straight out of season was he has mated them ?
-
I have got my vasectomised hob in with my Jill's and for over a week he is continuously on one of the Jill's to the extent it is bleeding all the time it shows no intrest in the other jills although they are in season, its my first time with a vesected hob should i take him out or just let him get on with it Atb

I remember getting a bit of opportunist work for the terriers of the holcombe hunt 30odd yrs ago me and a mate had been up the back of the deerplay checking the drains and earths ,we watched them run one in a pipe drain we ran over ask if we could use our terrier thier were only 4 or 5 folk near and the terrier man was not one of them bolted the fox for them ,the lad on the horse thanked us and of they went hunt terrier man for 10 mins i was a proud lad when the fox bolted

Things seem to be getting better for the humble ferret here, but there is still a lot of unwanted jills around in july/aug ,the vet told me to keep him out of the main run for 6 weeks ,its a week today he was done and is still tender Bullcat you never said about the dangers ferrets face in the land of venomous spiders and snakes
-
When do your ferrets come in season ?a couple of months before they are due get him sorted it takes 6 weeks for the sperm to clear thats in the tube ,do you have a high turn over of ferrts because of snakes !i can remember years ago fred j taylor doing a write up for the shooting times and he said snake bites were a real problem One im glad to say we dont have here
-
The hob was a last year young ,in with his 2 sisters he had already started to draggem about even though the jills were,nt swollen so get him in now
-
Thought it was just me that liked them boiled they dont no what there missing do they.im not sure but if its a mite that causes the disease and the mite is in close contact with your ferrts and your out with them a lot could you spread the disease .put them out there missery and i leave them in the middle of a field for the buzzards
-
Had one of the hobs done yesterday ,the vet let is assistant do the opp ,they used super glue instead of stitches ,showed us the bits of tube and give us plenty of good advise including he cant go back with the jills for 6 weeks because of sperm left in the tubes ,£50 about right i thought The vasectomy they have done on a ferrt not sure if its special animal super glue or just plain loc tight
-
Its not a problem if you can get sorted but making sure there out the way of pri-ing eyes, it can be very costly if there not,had a couple of hard dogs and you can always find them something to do when there fit atb
