Moles Ganging Up On Me
perthshire keeper replied to mazperks's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
ive only had one very very hard mole to catch! i set 4 duffus traps with a mole in one end..and had him next day.. i think they get so pissed of seeing the other mole they throw caution into the wind -
i have known of a similar story perthshire keeper, my uncle reared a couple from pups down through the years amazing to see how tame they get, this was before the protection act of 1976. a license could be obtained to hunt otters in ireland for a period after this act, but if memory serves me right the packs agreed to stop hunting otters and instead all agreed to change to hunting mink as they were vermin and no licence needed, and like all good sporting hunters if the species was in danger they should be rightly left alone......here in munster it has been documented to have one of the healthi

Lol,my old headkeeper used to check the handshake and if it was a tenner he dropped it started coughing and drew everyones attention lol.Poor gun had to dip in or borrow a twenty plus he lost the tenner under heads foot .Used to make us smile .i would say 40 quid each would be about right these days mate . Had to laugh at this. A keeper I know told us the story one lunchtime that a gun tried to tip him a fiver. He gave it back to the gun with the reply.."You keep it Sir, you obviously need it more than I do"....lol i had a cock of a german guy out once for bucks and all he wanted was tri

yeh but the bloody yanks tip for a cup of coffee! like i say a tip is a showing of your appreciation for the day, i would have rather taken £10 from a man who had clearly loved it and will remember it his whole life..than £200 from the man whos stalk was just a picture in his book of "hunts"
-
about £40 to me was a standard tip...but a tip is NOT mandatory its a extra thanks to the stalker and should be a reflection on YOUR enjoyment on the day...di he go above and beyond? did he take time to talk to you about the woods the deer the estate? or was he a long grey faced dour bugger? ive had as little as £10 and as much as £500 and NEVER tip in lose change and never hand a tip "over" fold it twice and tuck it into your thumb and exchange it in a hand shake..

i had that once...now on every single farm and house i do i leave the moles with them if they dont want me to ile tell them why and ile offer to bury them or put them on the much heap...same with houses ile bag them ans bin them most my work is word of mouth so if one farmer says i took 50 moles from his place and thex door gets charged for a lot..with the thinking of a farmer ect ect.i dont need it and this business is built on trust my policy will always be the moles stay with the farmer
