  1. An old ferreter told me, they like the smell of Joop.
  2. we all have different methods, giving them a ping on the nose has worked for me. The whole point, that has been mentioed, is, the man that bred her did not handle her enough as a kit, if she doesn't stop I would give her back. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for this beastie.
  3. My question was regarding the cooking of the Rabbit, would I need to cook it in water first, or could i just put the rabbit pieces in the slow cooker and pour the Patacks sauce over?
  4. She has obviusly not been handled well as a kit, any that try and bite i ping them on the nose with my fingers, they dont like that, but theres a big difference from a grab to a full on bite, unusual for my hob he grabbed me by the finger, but didn't draw blood, and i pinged him on the nose and he stopped. although i never would use a glove, maybe you could try it, till she settles down, then give her lots of handling and she should settle down. Worth a go if she is a good worker.
  5. Thanks been fixed up by Moxy on here.
  6. no will not work, can type the message but the wee black box that says has vanished, maybe one of the mods could help me.
  7. Would you need to cook the Rabbit in water first,if using a slow cooker, I also soak the Rabbit pieces in salt and vinegar, overnight. Could i not just put these pieces in the slow cooker pour over a curry sauce, switch on at night, and it would be ready next morning.
  8. I am having bother sending messages, could someone pm Moxy for me and ask him to send me a pm, thats the only way I appear to be able to send out a message.
  9. I dont think they all can be full?
  10. If you have a Jill, or can get a loan of one, then take it out on its own, and see if this makes any difference, if not, you need to try something else.
  11. If I click on to members name and their profile comes up and it says send member pm. It comes up okay saying subject, and below message. I can type these in, but I cant get the send to come up, so i cant send the message. If someone pms me first i can reply. Can anyone help?
  12. They need to be able to bite, to get the stubborn rabbits moving.
  13. not bothered about it being flatpack as i will just keep it in the car boot, a wooden one would be okay as long as not big or heavy.
  14. Moxy can you send me a pm, then i can answer you, i cant send a pm by going on to your profile, had this bother for a while.
  15. i just work Jills, although they can kill underground i have always found Rabbits seem to bolt better, than a big Hob. I dont know how quiet you are when you are out, but any noise as you know stops bolting. And dont even contemplate on putting a Muzzle on a Ferret.
  16. Hi Peeps, After my recent experience of nearly losing a good wee worker. I have been thinking of acquiring a cage, was going to do this years ago but never got round to it. looking for a cage not too heavy, does not need to be large, I only work Jills, do you know any company I can contact. or if anyone has a spare i could purchase of them CJ.
  17. Sad when you lose one of these wee workers, they dont look for much, a warm bed and good grub. Strange the Hob killing her, ive seen some ferret skirmishes, but they never ended in death.

  19. Was I glad to see her? Took along my hob and opened up the bury, rabbit livers had not been touched. entered the Hob twice, but each time came back on his own, managed to mark the Jill still showing 5ft. Started to dig, put in the first shovelful, then I turned round and she was at the hole entrance, was I not pleased. Gave her a drink, she was fine, the Whippet marked a bury on the way back, so I netted up and she bolted two Rabbits. She is now in her hutch tucking into a Rabbit. Thanks for all your posts Lads its appreciated. CJ.
  20. Durham Animal Feeds. do South west Scotland, google them and you can find info, or phone them.
  21. Nah all my old ferreting mates have gave it up, She has a collar on, but im not bothered about that as long as i get the Monkey back.
  22. Thanks lads i will need it, I will take my Hob along, my pick, and me faithful Bulldog Spade. Coming up for 65 its something Im not looking forward to. Ive had some serious digs in my ferreting life. This Jill has always come out, never been stuck up, thats why i think she may be blocked in a stop end.
  23. Dont know where you are, but worth checking out Durham Animal Feeds, as they may deliver in your area. sell all kinds of raw meat frozen in pound bags delivered to your door.
  24. Out today just for a walk with the Whippet and an Albino jill, Whippet marked first bury, and bolted a pair. Then the Dog marked a four holed bury on the side of a wood, have done it before and bolted a few from it. ferret entered big rumble then silence. The mark was reading 5ft of stony digging, real hard going. Managed to go three feet, but had to pack up. waited three hours but no sign of ferret but still getting the reading at 5 ft, blocked her in, with a feed of Rabbit liver down one hole. Will be back in the morning will take a pick, I think she may be stuck in a blind end.
  25. I have always used Drontal Plus, but decided to change in case they became resistant to the Drontal, Had a word with my Vet about this, who told me this is not the case, you can stick to the one wormer if you prefer, they cant become resistant. I recently tried Panacur but have now gone back to Drontal. Purchased six Drontal Plus for £9.36 plus free postage from Medic Animal Ltd. They may be okay, but I would be wary of buying Medicine on Ebay.
