  1. The vests look good, cheapest I have seen £29.95 with free post Ebay. might go for one.
  2. I also wear cheap wax leggings, good for kneeling in mud, or thorn when setting purse nets.
  3. Just go for the cheapest waxproof you can get, or get an old one from ebay, great for setting nets in thorn hedges. And if you get a cheap one, not Barbour, it doesn't matter if you get a few tears.
  4. I think they would be to heavy for me, maybe all right for the coldest of Days. But in warmer Winter days, you would boil up. Just head out with your net basket, Bag, ferret box, and spade. and you wont need a jacket.
  5. Didnt know they had Rabbits in Manchester, thought it was just Scallys. :D
  6. Where I live, there is plenty of long legged hill Border collies, That would work the hill all day. Offer the Farmer a bottle of whiskey for stud fee, most will jump at the chance.
  7. These are a couple, the all white is a favorite of Bills who says its the best braid in the UK.
  8. A couple of wee stop nets made by bill, just to attach the end pins. or fibreglass poles for a quick set.
  9. I recently recieved a message on this subject from Skycat, who told me to watch the back leg bones from old Rabbits, as they are really hard, and she recently had a dog operated on with a impacted gut. discussed this with Lakeland Cumbrian, who takes the meat of the bone, and the carcass goes to the ferts. It takes a wee bit extra time but i think worth it, I have ordered a boning knife from Amazon. And cut resitant gloves from screwfix £5. as one slip from a very sharp knife. I take a pound of meat of each Rabbit, bag it, and freeze for two weeks to kill worms. And theres enough meat l
  10. I had my Whippet out at 6 months, Ferreting only, got him used to the ferts, nets and using his nose, the rabbits dont lie out where i was taking him, or long ears. he has now developed into a useful rabbiting companion. and does not yip, if you are talking about lamping, i would wait till a year old, and dont over do it on the lamp, at that age they are just saplings.
  11. Sent away for this rough neck micro shovel from Amazon. £9.98. Van carriage £1.75. Not used it, yet, but had good feel over, and have to say im impressed, if it doesn't do the job, I will let you know. Looks handy if out on a wee mooch, with a single Fert and a few nets in the pocket. Dont think it will take over from my 30 years old Bulldog, But does look handy.
  12. They can put weight on feeding dry, you just balance it out,and watch the amount you are giving them.
  13. To keep it simple I Feed Rabbit right through the Winter, and in the Summer when there are Flies about, I feed Ferret complete.
  14. Five today, could have had more, but thats enough for me, Bolted three to the nets, and dug two, Whippet marked all occupied Burys.
  15. Sandy, you are right, never seen one, you would think, if they are the bees knees, and work on dogs, then they would have them for humans, im sure the high heed yins with the NHS, will have looked at magnets, and there must be good reasons, they dont use them.
  16. Stick to the Dog health, Ferret section, and netting. We are a lot nicer on there.
  17. This a old leather slipp leash, very simple and works, you put one end through the collar, and hold the end. If you put this end through the two plastic grommets, it turns it into a normal lead.
  18. i use this Although I use my old Bulldog, I thought this would be handy if oot for a wee mooch, with just one fert, and a few nets, hope their guid. Just bought the Rough neck pointed micro shovel from Amazon.
  19. Had all type of collars for years, had all type of Ferts, big and small, never had your problem, i just dont get it. I put a nail in pliers, and hold it over a cooker gas flame and make extra holes. Grab your fert and put on the collar nice and tight, you wont choke it. I really cant understand your problem.
  20. same here, hope your nets will be full, and your ferreting spade is redundant. Happy Hog ma nanny
  21. I put up this post a couple of years ago, trying to find if anyone has this dogs breeding in his strain. a difficult one going back 30 years, started with a Whippet X Bedlington called Rag. I mated her too a pedigree whippet from Workington, and kept back a Bitch Snowy, she was white, being over dogged she went to Ayrshire, she spent the rest of her life in a very good working home. she turned into a very good Bitch and was well known, I did manage to contact her owner, who told me she was only mated once, to a Whippet called Socks, but he had lost contact with the owners who had pups from
  22. A few years ago, I was giving a very small Poly Jill, small, so small you would now class it as a micro. The next day, i had a ferreting trip, so decided to take the new Jill along. It worked, but when bolting a rabbit, would flee out the bury at such a speed, and me chasing it trying to catch it, it did this at every bury, at one point must have chased it over 200 yds, it was the fastest, ferret I have seen, the sweat was lashing from me. She was really easy to handle no nipping, so when i got back, and put her in the hutch, i kept her in there for a month, handling her daily. The next ti
  23. Thats how i like it Brimmer, he is a young dog, sometimes his marking can be so subtle, but i am beginning to understand. Once saw a video on youtube of a marking dog, think it was a Whippet, it whined, then started digging, was down the bury snorting, yet its owner classed it as a marking dog, good enough to put on youtube.
  24. Always thought of having one, but I am bit skeptical, Especially at £350 a pop new. as sandymere pointed out a lot believe in copper bracelets for rheumatism where others think the are useless, I was a male nurse in NHS for 40 years, and for pain we would use a Tens machine, some said it helped, but as many said it did not work, also i remember four Nurses having hypnotherapy to stop smoking, one ended up stopping, the other three didn't.
