Best Breed Of Lurcher To Take Ferreting?
Country Joe replied to Dranny GLC's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
although a 26 dog will catch rabbits it would be a bit too big for me, i also wouldn't like to turn up at some of the farms i do with such a big dog, i always found it easier to get permission with a smaller dog. there's a few you could go for the choice is yours. Whippet Collie x whippet beddy x Whippet 3/4 Whippet X Beddy. etc. -
Feet.......................opinions
Country Joe replied to birddog's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
fair point that, my dog Bryn never had feet probs in nearly 6 years, and he as been on alot of differnt ground in that time. So maybe colliexs have good feet, but they reckon saluki xs and deerhoundxs have good feet as well, ?? might come down to each dog then . I have run Bedlington crosses for a number of years, and they also had good feet on them. as above run them in all types of ground with no problems. -
Feet.......................opinions

I suppose you can work on them to give slight improvement, and keep them up to scratch, but i prefer nice tight feet to begin with. -
if i had a line of quality Lurchers, and lost the line, and knew of a litter bitch that had been kept as a pet, and if the owner would let me, i would have no hesitation in taking her to a really good stud dog. the important thing would be, if you had surplus pups, to make sure, you were 100% honest in your advertising.

Fake Prescription Drugs
Country Joe replied to Country Joe's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
It mentioned the ingredients being mixed in a cement mixer, some of the coloured outside coating is paint, and one they tested contained Arsenic. they are so good at copying they even did needles for diabetic use, and they fooled the NHS who bought them and the users got ill, and these had been supplied to hospitals and Doctors surgeries, so if you can fool the professionals watch chance has the layman out there. -
been watching Fake Britain, about prescription drugs on sale on the internet, and the stuff they use to produce counterfeit medication, boric acid, rat poison etc they say you can make more money selling these, than heroin. so its not surprising the internet is flooded. you can buy any prescribed drug that you would need a prescription for in this country, that you don't know the ingredients. Although they didn't mention Animal medicines im sure they will have moved into this market. after seeing this program i would only buy prescribed Animal meds from a Vet, I realize its expensive, b

Socks I have one of CRs plastic buckets, and i have run nets out of it a few times with no snagging problems, As i have said i just use mine to store and swap different net lengths over. Joe thought up the idea, as they cost next to nothing to make. and they do work. I have three of his stainless baskets large, medium, and small, which cover all my needs. I tried running nets out the bucket in a playing field, and as i said, it worked well. tried it once running four 5 yarders in a wood, and again nets ran out fine.

Does Anyone Make Ferret Wheels In Ireland
Country Joe replied to Andrew Beirne's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
How much does a wheel cost ? Why don't you pm Leeview? -
Its a no brainer really, both types will work the same, if your working open type burys, it doesn't matter, but if using stop nets and bolting Rabbits in say, woodpiles, then the Albino comes into its own.

I would go along with the time the Vet gave you, to reintroduce him to the Jills, just in case, better having a bit of patience. it appears by other posts on this subject, if it doesn't work the Vets will operate again for free, good advice only putting him in with One Jill, just in case.

Genetics is a complicated subject, take Greyhounds the top racers winners of classics get put to the top brood bitches, not all produce, same with horses, yet you see top Greyhound brood bitches that produce open racers in all litters to to different Sires. I know Irish breeders will breed from a bitch that say has to be retired from injury very early in its career, and has won nothing, as long as the bloodlines are good, and comes from a line of good dogs. Excuse me for bringing in greyhounds to the subject, i realize this is a terrier discussion.

Could be good in the right situation, i wouldn't fancy using one at night, regarding rabbits escaping from the normal longnet, thats why i like a good dog that will chase the rabbit into the net and holding it. then if it bounces out its caught.

I was out lamping in a field where the Bullocks were gathered at the top end, the dog ran a rabbit and the herd ran towards me, maybe i should have kept light on, but i switched it off, and as they ran by me, one clipped me on the shoulder, and i dropped like a stone, lucky i was only winded, nothing damaged, but i got a fright, would rather just keep away from them.

yeh i know he is a handy mate to have, just thought the two photos would be helpful to you i think the bucket CR uses is a thicker plastic. if you pm him he has the exact measurements to make one.

Hard to say if Kenneling stress would have caused this, or it would happen anyway, my Whippet had the same but as well as watery it was black, had him to the vet, it was a gut infection, three day course of tablets, cant remember what they were, probably antibiotic. cured it. was told to feed light for a few days, Chicken and rice. Once cured if Vet asks for stool sample to send to be analysed, dont do it, it only tells you the type of infection and they will charge you £40.

One of CRs it does work in the field, Cr jut wanted to make a basket that would cost next to nothing. as i have three of his metal baskets, I use this for swopping nets around and storing pre sets.
