  1. It was meant to be a joke. did you not see the smiling face
  2. The dog was only on the Rabbit for a few mins, I despatched them as quick as i could, when he moved to the others they were dead. I have always made sure that i despatch all game quickly. And you are right when pushing rabbits into a net, I wouldn't expect the dog to act this way, but it was a pup and first time it had been close. Ive been netting and running dogs for 45 years, so I have a rough idea what im doing. 1 there was no screaming rabbits. 2 There was no net damage. I could have worded it better, saying he moved on to the dead Rabbits. The rabbits were for the Ferrets
  3. Tried a blind set this morning at 7 am ran two 5ft stop nets and one of Bills 5ft Trammels. There were a few Rabbits out, and could have had a few, if id a mature dog with me pushing them in, but I just had Jack 16 wks. When i got to the nets a few were running up and down, and not going in, as i expected. But three did go in, but not into the Trammel, must be the pink colour will have a go with it again. When i got to the net and saw the three struggling rabbits I unleashed Jack, and he was right in there grabbing one, then moving on to the others, which had been quickly despatched. As
  4. As a Rabbiting Man, apart from the sport side, my other main reason for walking 4 miles a day, is to keep me fit. apart from the push bike which I don't do, but sitting on a Quad bike or running behind a car, or watching a dog on a treadmill will end up with a fit dog, and a very unfit owner.
  5. Much more versatile than a Spaniel, My ist cross Whippet X Bedlington would flush from heavy cover and catch, great nose, was a excellent marker when ferreting, and used to lamp her as well.
  6. Don't be miserable, I know to be still using mark 1s you are classed as a dinosaur, but go ferreting in this day and age without any is plain stupid, I wouldn't go out without one. Its like using a knotted line, how many use this now. if you are getting into the sport get your money spent and buy a finder, you wont be dissapointed.
  7. Theres a lot of shit on here about Whippets, but if you get a decent one, they are a great ferreting companion. Forget all the shit about other quarry yes some do it, but these little dogs excel at rabbit hunting.
  8. Aye they were never the same when Brian left, seen a few bands in my day Hendrix, byrds, captain Beefheart etc.was at the Isle of white, with half a million, and all the other major festivals, saw the Doors and Jefferson Airplane on the same bill at the Roundhouse London, and live the Doors were awful, Airplane blew them away. My highlight was The Pink Floyd at the Middle Earth with Syd Barret. Peace and Love. Primal Scream who they say copied the Stones sounded a lot better, and enjoyed the Alabama Shakes that girl is some singer.
  9. The black dog pup wouldn't look out of plce in Lifelongcumbrians recent litter.
  10. Dont have coursing dogs just Rabbiters, Fed as well as any top coursing specimen. Daily one mile, road walking and three miles running free.
  11. I dont think my Ferts like me, as they wouldnt leave a Rabbit when called, till it was dead, Where with the finder, once they have settled and not moving, I can dig and get the rabbit out, in half the time, as waiting till they have killed and then coming out.
  12. Ah well never mind as the thread is about SS, im sitting next to a 3/4 Whippet 1/4 Bedlington, who has a few connections to SS in his breeding. When it comes to Whippets, especially away from the show stock its hard not too find SS in there somewhere.
  13. BPR he must have had something to be used as much, its difficult to find a ped Whippet that hasn't got a bit of SS somewhere, A bit like the Greyhounds with Monalee Champion, who if i'm right never won a classic, but he also is usually in the back breeding. You have to remember once a dog has a reputation of throwing good stuff, the best broods will go to him. Going back to racing greyhounds one of the current top studs Westmead Hawk I don't know the stats but say he is covering two Bitches a week, can you imagine how many offspring he will have.
  14. Most of the time Old Keith was walking the stage holding his Guitar by the neck. Good to see Mick Taylor.
  15. After seeing the Stones a few times in the 60s with Brian Jones, and with Mick taylor, I was at the hyde park concert, and they were brilliant live. But have to say i was disappointed with them at Glastonbury, watched it on TV, thought they sounded ordinary, and their choice of songs could have been better. Not a big fan of Soul, but the best ive seen up to now was Chic with Nile Rodgers.
  16. Just bothered about the chance of him picking up Lung worms, as my flower beds in my garden appear to have a lot of snails, and the pup has been eating them. anything else i can use, that does not need a prescription?
  17. I have a cat litter tray screwed to the floor which they use, filled with four handfuls of cat litter. changed every third day, And i feed complete in the Summer, Rabbit in Winter. With this regime, they don't get bothered with Flies.
  18. Does the prescription just do for the one purchase, or can you use it a few times, say for Milbemax.
  19. Not keen on wooly heid Humble, must have been the worst, when she was paired up with that little horror Oddy on Springwatch. Listened to her on the radio recently getting excited about hosting that prog about Airports. apart from plane spotters, who is going to find it interesting. Done a bit of traveling in my day, cant stand them. Will watch next week, on Australia, only to see the dogs working, but should be interesting.
  20. Ive used the nylon, its okay did the job, just used roofing tacks.
  21. These winter bunnies are from a nice wee set, very easy to do, will have to have another drop soon.
  22. Cheers Harry, You would definitely win The best, tidy garden on THL. And tidy dog as well, nice shiny coat on him.
  23. Ive had a look on line at Milbemax Wormer, and it appears all say you need a Vet prescription. does anyone know how much Vets charge for a prescription? And would a prescription just cover for the one purchase?
  24. Hi Peeps. Just a couple of questions, are those leather type wellingtons easy to keep as clean as Wellingtons, they look good in the shop, but are they easy to clean of mud, and are they as good as the normal rubber Wellys? Having never worn Gaiters, with good waterproof boots what depth of water could you wade through, and still have dry feet can you go over the top of the boot, and still remain dry?
