    Smart looking pup, ive finally managed to persuade mine to accompany me on Ferreting trips, she carries the ferret box and spade. I would describe her as a reluctant Ferreter, cant understand, she always looks like she's not enjoying herself

    Used to get there Beef mince, but it looked as there were more offal in it than beef, tried the minced Chicken, but dog wouldn't eat it. as above, has anyone tried the beef chunks, is it pure beef? and easily cut up? Anything else you like, and use from this company?

    Out yesterday to do a tree line, usually can average half a dozen, but not so good, ended up with three. had the pup with me, he is starting to give positive marks and at 6 months, is looking good. after bolting two rabbits, one into Netriggers Trammel stop net, first time i have bolted a rabbit into a trammel, thought it would be difficult to remove, but it came out no bother, should have had the camera with me. on approaching one of the trees saw four Rabbits going down, netted up and entered my Jill, bolte one, then all went quiet.     There appeared to be a few in my area, looking at the info, I haven't come across many, used to know a Farmer who had a Border X Beardie, said it was a useful dog, better on Cattle than the Border.

    Although I have the three large, medium and small, its the smaller one i find the most handy, as you can carry one with ease, plus a bag with your purse nets.

    The main problem with Ferret Vasectomy is the variation in price amongst Vets up and down the Country, after all its the same op. I phoned one local Vet whose surgery was a 5 min car run, from the where I had him done, and he quoted me £30 more. As this op stops a lot of unwanted births, vets should come to a suitable price for this op, I cant understand, apart from greed that one can charge £55 and others £100 to £150.

    Magpie, years ago there was a herd who worked on the side of the hill on that famous South West Scotland landmark Criffel, i'm sure he had working Beardies and his name was Muirhead, cant remember his first name. I wonder if it was from him that Hancock got his original Beardies?

Very good advice this DVD will help, shows the training of a Pup, mrpit on here will help you out. or maybe someone will give you a copy, any questions do a search, and lots should come up, as been said don't rush things take your time, the answer about stock training by IWW is spot on.

    Hope you have luck, Im in south west Scotland the nearest North was Kincardinshire, nr Stirling, and the nearest South was Doncaster, both were to far for me to travel.

    Aye many a rabbit ive done on the barbed wire, when ive forgot the knife. Never tried the country mans way of bending then in half and using there teeth ? Excellent way, but make sure you have no Wallies, you don't want to leave them in the rabbit

    Dont know your type of ground, but on mine theres lot of hedges, sometimes have to get on the old knees to lay nets, and there can be thorn, I just look on ebay for older type wax jackets, even if the have a tiny hole somewhere it doesn't matter, as long as they are cheap. Or buy the cheapest wax jacket you can. Dont buy top of the range new, like Barbour, as you could rip or hole your new jacket easy. buy a pair of wax leggings, again not top of the range, warm clothes underneath, a decent pair of wellies or boots and a bunnet.

    Stop nets are a useful piece of kit, but so is the purse net, sometimes a combination if the two is good,

    I used to ferret land next to the Solway it was pure sand, with a lot of rabbits, the burys were only a couple of spadeful deep, so you weren't worried about non bolters, many a time you would dig to a stop end and have two or three rabbits in front of the rabbit the ferret was working, used to take big bags. I lost it, when it became a RSPB bird sanctuary, returned recently to see what it was like, and couldn't find where i used to ferret, then i noticed a few old fence posts when the tide was out, the Sea had reclaimed the land.

    Using the tip of the knife is good, another tip shown to me, is too shear a small piece of the fur, exposing the skin, then as been said open with the tip of the knife I have two rabbit paunching knifes made by Jes Knifes, not the cheapest but but really good knifes made by a master craftsman. http://jesknives.co.uk/

    An old Rabbit Trapper I knew, used to dig a deep trench in his garden, where he put rabbit guts, when filled it was covered over, late spring he planted his Sweet Peas in the trench, he claimed he had the best blooms in the Village every year.
