I spoke to a Girl recently whose Father owns a farm in Lincolnshire, she was telling me, he regularly comes across Lads coursing, can be four or five handed, when he approaches them, she said he receives all kinds of abuse, and threats. not a situation I would like to be in. I'm glad im just an old Rabbit hunter.

Pup Drinks And Pees Alot!

I suppose like Humans all Dogs are different, my Whippet hardly drunk water at all, didn't appear to bother him, my present pup, drinks a lot. -
Dont know if it would have made any difference, but it came up lots of times before the ban, at Greyhound coursing clubs AGMs, to run the Dogs muzzeled but they always voted it down, Would it have made a difference?

You can use long nets other side of the hedge, you want the rabbits to bolt, then run out to the nets, you could use boards, but I just use my wax jacket, and ferret box to block the hedge runners and try and force them out, you will still get hole hoppers, good luck.

Strange one, although its happens, after 45 years of ferreting, the only beast I have bolted from a Rabbit warren is a Stoat.

Rabbit burys can also be dangerous, I lost my Whippet, caught the rabbit at speed as it entered the bury, as he grabbed it down the hole, he went over, breaking his neck. After many years of rabbiting, never had this, but since talking to a few doggy men, this is not uncommon, most get up from the fall, but a few don't.

A trammel net would be handy if say ferreting a dyke with burys either side and would be difficult to get over, or a barbed fence, or hedge. but if you can get too your net easy, then a 4z will wrap them up no bother. The trammel has it uses, but I would not want to use one for night work.

Just stick with Nelson decent prices, and good kit, and most important you wont get ripped off, Highly recommended.

My pup will eat raw Chicken, Turkey thigh, Beef heart raw, but will not eat raw beef mince, spoiled fecker. I just brown the mince and he scoffs the lot.

Decided To Take A Chance With This Jill

Decided to take a chance on this Sandy Jill, born in May, she and her litter mates, that were all polecat colouring didnt have the best of starts, being fed on cat food. I have always went worker to worker, so this is a first for me, this Jills dam has not worked, but is off workers, her Dam had a previous litter, and according to the breeder, some went to working homes and are doing well. As soon as i got her home, started feeding her on Rabbit and ferret complete daily, so she is looking well on it. She is certinly lively, and very fast. If mine packed in, I wouldn't go home, I also use field craft, using my ears, and watching the dog gives me a good idea what's going on underground, as i said with this bit of kit, I have dug out rabbits, that I would have missed. My only gripe, has been Debens stranglehold on this piece of equipment, I don't want to get into the argument what's best, I use a mark1, and if someone made a new upgrade of the mark1 i would have one. Tiercel ,if you enjoy your ferreting without using a finder, then carry on.

It appears to me there's a lot of posts recently on ferreting with young stock, there's a good excuse if you have no adult stock, but i think you are better concentrating on handling, and not working till properly developed. I have a young Jill born in May, and i did think of letting her run through a couple of burys. Had a mornings ferreting on saturday, the second set we did, after a lot of rumbling then silence the jill came out, looked like it had a bit of a kicking, entered another and the same. For a first timer, dogs with Bedlington in them can be a bit head strong, I would go for a Whippet, dead easy to train and laid back, very loyal. Ideal for someone starting on the game, Whippets usually have a good nose for marking, and speed for taking Rabbits on the run.

Grand mooching dugs, you had a good day out, had a wee morning out yesterday with LC 7 rabbits. it was like a summer day, we are needing frost to get this cover doon.

Pup has two dissolving stitches in his leg, told by Vet to keep on leash till they have gone. They appear quite thick any idea how long it takes these type stitches to dissolve?
