  1. Where abouts are nets mentioned?
  2. Socks do you need to have the poles as thick, they obviously work, but a lighter pole would do the same job. making the set up lighter to carry.
  3. Jack at 6 months, now seven months, out today for 4 hours working to stop nets marked every occupied bury and held the rabbits in the nets . 8 rabbits. good days sport.
  4. My two Jills use the above, but the lazy auld hob, just sleeps in it.
  5. The Simon Whitehead is pretty good, and is up to date, so if you want to use the Mark3 finder its discussed in his book, Some of the other ferret books are okay, but regarding equipment, can be a bit out of date. If your new to the game, I would recomend S. Whiteheads. If you type his name in Youtube a few things should come up.
  6. Mark1s were away for a service, returned today, top class job, and a good Lad to deal with. Highly recommended.
  7. Must have seen me coming down the road.
  8. Was walking down a country road today with my 7 month Pup, he stopped and gave a positive mark, he then dived into thick cover, coming out with a full grown rabbit, was really pleased, then noticed there was no life in the rabbit it was stone dead. There was no sign of injury, no sign of myxi, was slightly stiff and not warm, Thought it maybe had been hit by car and crawled into cover, but it was as clean as a whistle, and as I said, not a mark on it. I gutted it for ferrets, and inerds were fine. Strange one.
  9. Once you start working them regular, they will soon get fit.
  10. Neither Would I, there's a few crosses out there, that make good rabbiting dogs, its what ever you fancy and the ground you work. Marking for me is at the very top, nothing beats watching your dog catch after a good run, but at the end of the day, Marking will put more rabbits in the bag. saves a lot of wasted time. A good rabbiting dog is worth its weight in gold.
  11. Not going as far back, about 30 years ago i spoke to a farmer who was then in his eighties, He told me about a squad of rabbit trappers from the Highlands who would live on the farms trapping rabbits pre myxi using Gin traps, they then would move on to the next farms travelling round and staying he described their Dogs as long legged Terriers. and some had Collie Dogs. again he said they were long in the leg.
  12. I fed raw, only having one pup i picked up a lot of stuff at Morrisons meat counter that was cut down on price. Beef Mince, Chicken, Hearts, Lambs liver and kidneys and sardines ect from the fish counter. and ferreted Rabbit. I always had a bowl of Gains Puppy and Sapling that I fed ad lib. plus the usually Veggys
  13. An over the hill set, or blind set compared to a flat field, are easier to catch rabbits, although a flat field set you will still catch its better that conditions are spot on, and be a bit quicker, as the rabbits will head for home quick time. I used to do a blind set that had a banking, which meant the feeding rabbits could not see me, I always caught rabbits on it, in any conditions, even very early morning in daylight. Keep at it, you will connect, I dont night net now, but have some great memories. just use the nets for daytime ferreting.
  14. The bulldog is not the lightest, nor the heaviest, it can be carried about with you in a days ferreting no bother. had mine 35 years and never needed to do a thing with it, and its seen a lot of work.
  15. I don't think so, could be feet, or beaks, or any other part that wouldn't go into the human food chain, If its a good part of the bird they would advertise it, that's why my main feeding is Beef, Chicken and rabbit, proper stuff. not looking for an argument, but try contacting them and asking what part of the bird they use, you may be lucky to recieve an answer. but if your happy, and your dogs do well on it, well carry on.
  16. Gain Recordbreaker, main ingredient fresh Chicken, I contacted them a while back, and asked a simple question. What part of the Bird does your fresh Chicken come from, im still waiting for an answer.
  17. Ive never been there, but are his kennels clean, are they fed good grub, most important, how often are they out the pens for exercise, are the brood bitches bred every time they come in Season, and what does he do with them, when too old to breed?
  18. If looking for a big mincer that will take rabbits bones and all, I hope you have deep pockets.
  19. Im sure many of you have used this method of given the net more stability, i picked this wee tip up from LC. Then as has been stated, you dont need to worry about using a thinner pole. NETS BY NETRIGGER.
  20. Bob, i have carried the above basket up a very steep hill side no bother, the four nets will go round a decent sized warren, you could have the large basket, then this one, and lastly a small moochers basket, which can take 2 10 yds or 3 five yarders, I sometime use this one when just out for a walk with the dog, one Jill, and half a dozen purse nets in the pocket. not much weight to carry. of the three, the large is the one I use least, I use it mostly to store my nets, and can swop various size nets into other baskets when needed. I would say the above and the small moochers basket woul
