  1. Each to there own, always liked to see Hares, never felt the need to net them.
  2. Net colour, Weather affecting bolting, should dogs grab and hold Rabbits in the net. All interesting subjects. I, like us all have been out in clear crisp mornings, when they have refused to bolt, even when taking time and being quiet. Also had them hitting nets quick time when blowing a gale, other windy days they might not budge. I was out yesterday, a quiet mild day, and bolted 5 in one and a half hrs, all hit the purse nets like trains, two were put in burys with my pup breathing down on them, usually as you know, makes them reluctant to bolt, but it made no difference. My purse nets
  3. Has been down for a while now, is it coming back, was a decent wee forum, but appeared to lack activity.
  4. Used to do a nice wee blind set, with two 25 yarders, i always did it tradional, one net green the other black, did this set a few times, and both nets caught, dont think the green caught more than the black. the black net was turned into a quick set, and have seen it used a few times on ferreting trips, again along with brown and green nets, and again made no difference, but as we use dogs to push them into nets, the rabbits dont have time to look at colour. Interesting does anyone know if they are colour blind, do they just see in black or white, or colour?
  5. I would feed her a complete in the morning, with Rabbit at night, cheap raw beef mince, if you can get it and two raw eggs a week, maybe better on her own, you can spoil her then, then when she is in good nick, put her in with the others.
  6. They are probably the most versatile, they are good, and so is that fine figure of a Man modelling them.
  7. i get me frien to look after me dogs banter tommy macphees nephew Tommy mcphee that's a blast from the past, used to correspond years ago we got in touch through the old Shooting news. Hows he getting on, is he still hunting those easy East coast Rabbits.
  8. Maybe a small basket that would hold a few stop nets might help, especially if you can get them round the bigger warrens, save you a lot of time, also useful for hedges, but still worth putting on a few purse nets, for hole hoping.
  9. Boring brown freelander, you need to get some bright colours, the Bunnies love hitting them.
  10. Never thought of that, I suppose you could wrap some tape round it, when you use it, as you would with your ferret collar. maybe too much hassle for some?
  11. Good post from the Stranger, im sure if you found the right spade, and took it too a workshop that would do welding, it would not cost too much. The Mechanic that looks after my car, does all sorts of funny jobs, im sure if I needed one done, he would do it. Just ask about.
  12. Had a walk out today for a couple of hours, had the basket that this thread is about with two 25 yarders in, had two Jills and a pocket full of nets and my spade carried this no bother.
  13. Ive been ferreting with LC with one of these baskets, and they are the biz for ferreting, taking 12 poles gives you a few combinations of net sizes. And not heavy, when Nelson gets this size up and running, he should have a few orders.
  14. They are also handy for clearing round the bury,
  15. Have to say although an iron bar could be handy ive never taking one ferreting, and don't think I ever will.
  16. Just keep looking at the posts, and you should start to get an idea what you want, and who's breeding what, I got my pup of the beddy forum, went to see the litter, saw the guy was a genuine hunter, and not a bullshitter. We got on good and have been ferreting for 2 seasons, and have seen the dam of my pup working, and im pleased with the outcome. They are out there.
  17. I have them on rings also Threeland don't think it makes much difference.
  18. As you say everyone has different feeding regime they are happy with. im always surprised the amount of owners who feed a 28% complete along with red meat. I spoke to the Gain Rep about this, and he said if feeding raw meat and you want to use his products, then he recommended using Gain 20% as a mixer, this is what I use with raw Beef, Rabbit and Fish, and never had any problems, and Dog looks good on this regime.
  19. When you go to collect them, let him put them in your box, you will soon see if they want to grab on. If okay I would put them in your hutch, give them a feed, then handle, they should be fine.
  20. Sometime a light garden spade is useful one with a square blade, better for cutting roots, when you are in hedges, although I usually have secateurs in my pocket a small folding saw in the bag also can be useful, but you have to think of weight. the more equipment you take, the more you carry on the back.
  21. Ask the One if he has any Poke nets, they are a large purse net with a double peg, they are handy for putting over a large bury, or a bury in a tree root. Four would be handy in your net bag, im sure the One will keep you right.
