  1. If you want a smaller lurcher for the Rabbits, and you like a bit of Collie then the top one 3/4 Whippet 1/4 Collie would be ideal. go for it, if they have been well reared.
  2. It was a decent wee forum, lots of useful info, the problem was the lack of activity, you could put up a post, and it would be weeks before someone responded.
  3. I don't soak complete, he wont eat it, I put three handful's of complete in the bowl then add his raw on top, I don't mix it in, he will as you would guess polish of the raw meat, then later in the night he will eat the complete, but that's always last to go, so shows what ever these feed companies says, they prefer raw meat.
  4. Ive bolted a few, they never face up to the ferret, they bolt, glad to say they always escaped, really pleased as I wish these small warriors no harm, they are great rabbit hunters just like ourselves. long may they hunt, I know they are persecuted by keepers, but ive always had a soft spot for them.
  5. I use three, i have the large, this one, the medium which holds 12 poles very versitile basket, and my third is a moochers basket it will take 6 poles very light, good for a few 5 yarder stop nets. I think the big basket takes 20 poles, but i could be wrong, this large basket i have only used a couple of times, as i dont do much night work now, so the baskets are just used for ferreting, The big basket i use for storing the nets, and I can swop them round to the other baskets when needing different sizes.
  6. Positive marking is way at the top of my list, a good marking dog will save time, and put more Rabbits in the bag, they are worth their weight in gold.
  7. if that Granitor strain beddy Bitch was useful, and you put a good Whippet stud across it, you could end up with this.
  8. Really good offer, im sure you will enjoy, Northernlite has tidy dugs.
  9. This is what I feed along with my 20% along with veg and fish once a week.
  10. How long have you been working dogs Joe out of interest? What have you always fed? 45 years started in lurchers then had 4 years with racing Greyhounds, in the old days i had an outside boiler, bought meat from the local Knackery which was boiled up with Hare, Rabbit, Sheep Heids, and the butcher would give me the haggis that had burst, this was fed with the warm gravy, brown bread and SA45 which was a supplement,, fed this way for years and Dogs did good on it, only started feeding raw 4 years ago.
  11. Had a word with the Gain rep on this subject, feeding a dog in work, he recommended if adding meat use the 20% if not use 28%
  12. Champ Adult protein 20% That'll do/ hi lost 21% Complete Tripe 22% nutritionist said put a small amount of each sample in a bowl and see which one he prefers, but he started at the first, and finished off all three, fancy the tripe, as it has no beet pulp the other two have . Complete Tripe Tripe 26% Rice, Maize, Beef meal, Chicken fat, alfalfa, full fat linseed, peas, yeast, salmon oil, salt, mannan oligosaccharides glucosamine, milk thistle, seaweed, yucca, blackcurrant, ,green lipped mussel, kale, beetroot and rosemary, plus all the usual vitamins. I will use this as a mixer.
  13. Seems all American brands, I have been using Gain, but have been looking at CJS dog feeds, i use the 20% as a mixer, been hearing good things about CJS, they sent me three samples, and the Pooch loved them, they don't use a lot of expensive advertising, and use agents, so keeps the price down.
  14. Sorry my post is wrong, I thought you were meaning tying in the bagging once the poles were on.
  15. If you are using the basket system, have a look at the way Lakelandratcher gathers the quick set up, on the video thats on here, better not tied in, I have tied the bagging in on a traditional, as you pick up different, with a quickset I wouldn't. none of mine or LCs are tied in, and if using them for ferreting it just takes a min to pull the net to sort the bagging. Im sure LC will explain better than me.
  16. With ferreting the number one is using equipment that catches, the second has to be weight, I try using everything that keeps weight down. Myself and LC prefer a lighter pole, we have used them on all type of ground, and they have performed well, When its difficult to put in the ground we use these.
  17. I know fibreglass poles are expensive, but for quick sets, I wouldn't bother using anything else, but like the Hazel for my traditional.
  18. Great wee dugs, perfect Ferreting companions, with terrific prey drive, lost mine in a tragic accident, but would have another.
  19. My dog looks really well on 20%have been told by Skycat to carry on, but add little fat to the diet, I will use a bit of lard.
  20. What type of Terrier blood would have been added, various, or say one breed like a Bedlington?
  21. Okay will keep it really simple, if using a complete dry feed as a mixer with raw Beef what would be the best 28% or 20%?
  22. Its a well known fact, that non peds are faster than peds, but how would they fare against each other stamina wise? Also the peds appear to have a good nose on them, and most will mark, are non peds the same? Would there be any difference at the end of a days ferreting work wise, or would they both be running well?
  23. Them big Hobs would not be in my hutch, what's the point in carrying them huge ferrets on your back when two Jills would probably weigh less, and should be a lot faster at bolting rabbits, i don't do micros either, there is a happy medium.
