  1. Border Lads dogs get loads of graft. im sure he knows the back breeding of his Bitch and even being of a young age what's she's capable of. and as he says this will be his first litter since the early 70s,
  2. I have worked Beddy X Greyhound, Whippet X Beddy, and 3/4 whippet x 1/4 beddy. The first crosses are a bit head strong but mine settled down work wise when older. But adding Whippet to the first cross , I have found the offspring more steady and not as headstrong, When young and starting the ferreting game, after marking, and when netting up i keep the dog with me, as they are inclined to go off and hunt up.,
  3. I've been using one for years, mine is a single, although the double looks handy, mines is canvas, you can use any hard wearing material you fancy, i just took mine to a Seamstress, explained what I wanted and she ran it up jig time. holds about15 nets.
  4. I was there some cracking races Apart from the superstar Farloe Tango greyhound of the year, i thought he ran a poor race coming third.
  5. I don't know much about the dog, im sure there are Lads on here who can tell you about him, he was a racer, did he also work i don't know, but in racing was he not unbeating. at 26 he is a decent hight and pace he had, and seems to be producing decent stuff.
  6. Just search Deneside Belle on here lots of info, especially the thread Deneside belle pups, And i have no connections with the dog, but he was a good un.
  7. its your Bitch, so its up to you which way you go, but if you want more hight, and pace, worth considering would be whippet greyhound champion Deneside Belle 26inches and 52 lb now standing at stud.
  8. I have worked both crosses and both can be useful Rabbit dogs, but if you bred a Beddy x Greyhound over a Beddy Whippet, you could end up with quite a mixed litter, some throwing to the sighthound and some the Bedlington. If Rabbits is your game, I would source a good working Whippet and put that to the Beddy X Whippet bitch They make excellent Rabbit dogs, the ones I have seen have a good nose on them, and obviously more pace than the first cross.
  9. I was down at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium on Tuesday watching the open races was talking to a kennel lad who works for one of the top trainers, he told me the top dogs are fed a mixture of raw and cooked meat, plus Gain, never asked him which one, and a little pasta, but not too much He said all their dogs are fed Gain..
  10. Pm nelson on here, he will sort you out, good nets at a good price, and a decent lad to deal with. highly recommended.
  11. Saw Speckle in the flesh when Phil took me for a wee mooch she was a fine specimen, definitely a one man dog. Surprised there's not more ACD X Greyhound around.
  12. BBC Newsnight had a piece on Rhino poaching it had a very short clip of a rhino still alive and moving its head from side to side, it had been shot and its two horns cut out there was blood pumping out of the wounds, not nice to see a great Animal in pain dying this way, seemingly they take the Rhino horn and Elephant tusks using a chain saw, its quicker. Those rich Asians who buy this have a lot to answer, looks bad for the Rhino and Elephant its worth more than gold. I can see them being wiped out in 50 years.
  13. I've wrote this before, years ago I decided to try my Whippet X Bedlington bitch, I kept her at my feet then run out 100 yds traditional at night, we then went up the side of the field and I let her off, and walked the field in, there was no sign of the dog, I had a few in the net but not many, this was surprising, as I worked my way along the net the dog was nicely bundled up. and not struggling, she was very calm. That was her first and last night session, definitely not a netting dog.
  14. As your Pup is 11 weeks old and you say just about house trained, well she is doing well, I wouldn't worry about a bit of dribbling at this age should grow out of it.
  15. Socks ive had mine out in the field once it was in the boot along with my other ferreting gear no problem. yes baskets are the more versatile, but where this type of basket beats the other, it costs nowt.
  16. They are also handy for storing different sizes of your nets.
  17. Maybe different on open ground, where you can more or less wear what you want, but for crawling under thorn hedges when netting up, the two important items for me, is an old wax jacket and wax leggings for kneeling in wet.
  18. With a sizeable part of Southern Britain flooded, and still being in recession should foreign aid be stopped till this Country gets back on its feet. After all talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, Mr Pickles on the Andrew Marr show today, said money would be put up to start dredging all affected rivers and streams on the flood plain. I thought the main reason dredging had stopped, was to save money.
  19. I have a gun dog trainers waistcoat, loads of pockets, and a must is an old wax jacket for crawling under thorn hedges to set nets., can be picked up cheap from ebay used with maybe a small tear, doesnt matter for ferreting. and lastly cheap wax leggings, dont go for the big names. Again can be bought cheap in ebay. and a hat or cap which ever takes your fancy.
  20. Here you go, lots of answers where to use, about 4 poke nets are handy to have in your bag, as shown, real handy at the base of trees, but useful in all situations, also handy for burys on the other side of a fence, as I find they trap the Rabbit better, with the double peg, and you don't get as many kick outs, read they are also called double peggers in Scotland.
  21. Sandy, does this mean that the ones who are sourcing quality Beef chicken etc to feed their mutts are wasting time, and money and once its broken down to amino acids it makes no difference from rump steak to chicken feet. so we might as well just use a quality complete, no sourcing, no cutting up, or freezing, just pour out a bag and get the same results?
