Have used Cortland, and yes its good, but far too expensive. as all lines are. You can buy a nylon washing line in Poundland for a pound, so how can the justify £50 to £ for a nylon line.

Saw one in Durban Aquarium South Africa, its on its own, when it was swimming a few times it would pull its gums back exposing those teeth, its a killing machine, Im not surprised there here, with the amount of Seals round our Coasts, and no predators touching them.

I used to have Sheep and British Farmers love Ramadam, as at the end the prices go way up for cast ewes, they know where they are going, and they know how they will be slaughtered.

Can Anyone Help With Ferreting And Snaring
Country Joe replied to ruggers13's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
As I said i feed Rabbit, Winter Months, a weeks time i will go on to a Ferret complete, especially when there are flies about, i know a lot of you feed raw all year round, nothing wrong with that, but this is my way, and they do well on it. Theres nowt wrong with ferret complete. -
Airflow get good write ups on their lines, i had their fast glass on one of my spools, haven't been flyfishing for two years, so that line has never been of the spool in that time. i thought it would need a good stretch, but first cast it shot out straight as die not one coil in it. sign of a good line, ended up with a cracking 5LB Rainbow Troot, fully finned and a perfect tail.

If your not going to get rid, take them out, and walk till you see a Rabbit going down a bury, try and find one thats not too deep or big. A two or three holed bury would be fine. Then you will know for definite if they are working, pity you are so far from me.

21 inches in Dogs appears a popular height in Whippets

Maybe someone on here is from Aberdeen, and can put you on too a good working strain, its just a pity you didn't wait, instead of taking on pets,
-
Give them away as pets, and get into some good working stock, the ferreting Season is about over, so there will be a few good kits being bred.

You need too ferret in the winter, and have a freezer, not every one does this, but this is my method, i skin the rabbits and carve a pound of meat off them, this is for the dog the remainder is bagged and goes to the ferrets. Anything you want to know about feeding, hutches etc, do a search on here and tons of info will come up. -

The book I mentioned is the most up to date, it also deals with the mark3m finder which is the latest, ive looked through a few ferret books and I would say its the best out there, you can get it from Amazon. my ferrets are fed rabbit from September till the end of March, then after I feed a complete, any Kits are reared on Rabbit only. -

I take it he is an adult, and does not bite, if so you just need to handle him a couple of times a day, for short periods. out of curiosity, what do you feed him on? -

Its not unusual for ferrets to sleep up to 20 hours a day. -
Years ago I used to attend the Coursing meetings at Annan, which held the Scottish National I remember talking to a Keeper, don't know if it was true, but he told me Hares were brought over from Ireland and released to improve the stock.
-
I coursed my first Hares 40 years ago, and i admit we did not use Saluki crosses, but we still had some very good dogs, and it needed a good dog then to catch, seen a few that couldnt. regarding your terrier hanging on to a hare, I had a whippet x Bedlington Bitch 18 inches, who learned how to catch hares in the seat she was deadly at this, i ended up leashing her, when walking through fields that held them. didn't like to see them caught this way.

Can Anyone Help With Ferreting And Snaring

as I said Ruggers there's more to snaring than setting the wires, who owns the ground, is their livestock in the field or adjutant fields, would the public see your snares. When i was snaring it was on an estate so no fence snaring was allowed, only field snaring. I would concentrate on getting ferreting permission, and learning the game and getting a bit of field craft behind you. try and find a ferreter in your area, it may be difficult but its the best way, if he could take you out a couple of times to get you going. I would start with ferret and purse nets, then when you get more profic -
The sheep dip that used killed everything it was then banned, i used to have pedigree Texel sheep, after dipping the sheep, we then dipped the collie.

If you are going to continue to try snaring, you need to know what you are doing, if you don't I would not bother snaring. If put in the wrong place, cattle can get their tongues caught, and you can end up snaring small dogs or cats. You need to find someone with the same interests, that can show you, as been said you want to ferret, snare, and longnet, regarding longnets, If you purchase one, and don't know what you are doing, I guarantee you will end up in a massive tangle. and you wont catch, and your net will end up in the bin. -
Why all steel, [BANNED TEXT] you digging, I had a Bulldog rabbiting spade with a wooden handle, a lot lighter than steel for 40 years, I lost it recently, used in all type of ground, and was as good as knew after 40 years.
