My dog took a small slice of one of his stoppers, after keeping him on the lead for a week, I sent away for a stopper guard they come in twos, very well made out of neoprene, and they do not slip i can now run him off the lead, they are £12 for the two, handy to have, in case this type of injury recurs, recommended, she also makes wrist straps, anyone interested just google forest fleece.

Time For You All To Have A Think About Things
Country Joe replied to taffy apple's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I rate my eu cross he's my best worker for sure. can't say he's a first cross but has a good amount of eu in him no killing down hole, no reticence to the job he was bred to do etc so it CAN work out with a hybrid So is he any better than your common garden ferret, i like a ferret that kills when refusing to bolt, means i can dig straight to it, nothing worse as being a foot down on a solid mark then the rabbit moves. -
When she chases a Rabbit what does she do, does she stay at the bury and mark, if putting a rabbit in a bury mine will give a a bit of a scratch, When the ferreting season starts take the dog with you, he will watch you netting up, i take it she is stock proof to Sheep, cattle and of course ferrets, when you connect with a rabbit, keep her with you, you can hold her collar, she will hear the rumbling, and see the rabbits hitting the nets, after a few times, the penny should drop, and you should end up with a useful ferreting companion.

Ruggers you are making ferreting too complicated, go to your permission in Winter, if you have not a marking dog, watch for seeing a rabbit go down a bury, net up and enter ferret, as you have probably been advise if your ferrets are young, or not experienced, don't put them in a big set, try and find a two three or four or five holed bury not to deep. and away you go, if your ferrets are of a decent strain they will work, if not find a good working strain, later on there will be a lot of good kits on here. i had a last years Jill that had never seen a live rabbit, took her out one day last W

Gas I give him Raw Beef, which comes in a slab, I cut it up bag and freeze into individual portions. I feed raw rabbit in the Winter when ferreting, I fillet the meat of the Rabbit bag and freeze, gives me more freezer room, the ferts get the rest, and when the ferreting season stops he gets cooked Rainbow trout. added to his beef So I aint going to spend more time cooking brown rice and cutting up veg.

Im using there complete tripe as a mixer with raw and at £21.50 wouldn't class it as cheap, don't think i would by the £11.50 feed, and my dog has good solid motions.
-
You lot are too soft, straw, heat lamps etc, treat them rough, Whippets and Whippety dugs dont need spoiling.
-
Ive been using it as a mixer, but round about the 20 24 protein, if mixing with good meat, don't think you need to put in high proteins. I've tried That il do, and im now using the tripe mix, dog looks good.

Noticed a card in my local pet shop this week. Porkies for sale, Sire Pug Dam yorkshire Terrier. £650 £100 deposit. -
Most of my nets are 4 footers, couldn't be bothered rummaging in a bag to find one that fits best, its a bit like one size fits all. But i would get at least 4 poke nets for really big burys and handy for tree roots etc.

Forget about small injuries, as you always have an excess, insurance is handy with a serious injury eg leg break. im with Petplan,

40 years of ferreting, and never did it without a marking dog. to me that's what ferreting is about, having a decent dog, years ago I was offered ferreting on land holding a lot of rabbits, it was on a sporting estate, but was told no dogs, I turned it down.

had a good day on Friday at a local loch, it was bright sunshine, and no rises, thought I was in for a poor day, but caught twelve on a black size 12 buzzer, hooked another six, but they flung the hook, fished a team of two on a floater with a very small indicator.

Cracking head shot. -
Its not goat, i used to keep sheep, once they have had 4 and 5 crop of lambs, the ewes are sold as cast ewes, there's nothing wrong with them, just getting old for breeding, and farmers will have bred younger stock to replace them. These cast Ewes are sold, most of the dealers buying them send them to the midlands from Scotland, this is your curried lamb, most lamb, sold in indian restaurants, and kebab shops will be mutton, they don't buy lamb, too expensive. Mutton used to be popular a long time ago, but fell out of fashion, now everyone wants lamb.
