...but that's a whole other thread!

I'd considered this before... Put a rabbit distress call on a cheap (or old) mobile and set it as ringtone. Then you can simply place the mobile wherever you like and phone it with your own mobile. Won't ever cost you unless you forget what you're doing and leave a voicemail... I'm sure this has been done before, but i'm gonna rig something up I think. You could even get a little speaker to plug in to it to make it louder.

Welcome a fellow Scot!

It's not on his FAC ticket. He needs to fill out NO paperwork to sell this item. If someone decides to break the law after the sale, he's not responsible for their actions. If an RFD were to sell it, then yes, if used on a firearm, it would need to be entered on a FAC. If an RFD were to sell for use on an air rifle, NO FAC is required. Maybe the mods should delete any posts on this particular thread regarding it's lack of suitability, and just leave the original post? I can understand why Deker is getting a bit tetchy.

CZ .22 Semi Auto Accuracy Problems
humperdingle replied to Josh9's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Has the gun been stripped for cleaning? Just get him to check all the parts are tight and screws tightened etc. Fairly obvious stuff really, but you never know. Could it be the scope? I'd shove the rifle on a rest. Clamp it so it can't move, and shoot a series of shots to see if it's still shotgunning. Or test with open sights if they're fitted. -
Well that's what forums are for. Differences of opinions are valuable. We all learn from each other, and knock ideas about. But personally, having asked the specific question before of my FEO, the answer was definitive. Shoot a fox with an unauthorised weapon and FAC will be revoked. Now I'm not saying they're wrong, and i'm not saying you're wrong. There are (as previously stated) major differences between force areas on the interpretation of the law. I fell, however, that there is only ONE force I need to listen to, and that's my force area. They're the ones who issued my FAC, and I

Seems quite a casual question so the answer has to be the cheapest.22 you can find. No other ammo comes near as cheap. Whilst it's certainly the cheapest, it's not much use if he isn't allowed to shoot fox as well as rabbit with it. It's the old argument again one that will never be answered as the various Police areas can't even agree. What I'm going by is the OP said he wanted a FAC rated rifle for rabbit and the odd fox, inferring he goes rabbit shooting and the odd fox crops up, not many folks get a specific fox calibre for that situation. I'd also bet there isn't a

It will really depend on what the minimum calibre permitted for fox is in your force area. Generally you need fox specified on your conditions to be authorised to shoot it. In my force area, the minimum for fox is .22 Hornet. As one of the smaller centrefires, it's punchy, and can take longer range small vermin with ease. Plus it's reloadable, so you can vary the load to suit your shooting.

Advice For 22-250 Calibre
humperdingle replied to dave1372's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'm very new to the calibre - Having just stepped up from rimfire. On using it, and doing a bit of research, it's a superior round to the .223 in terms of velocity and flat trajectory. Mine's is zeroed at 50 and 150 yards, with under an inch rise between these two. If you're shooting fox then, it's point and shoot anywhere between 30 and 200 yards - maybe a touch more. I've started collecting the necessary bits to reload... taking it slowly, buying the bits as I can afford them. IWatch the video below on Youtube, you'll see just how simple a kit you can start off with... for £20 + con -
hiho....I think humperdingle was simply trying to make the point that with a SHOTGUN you do not need a reason...you do not have to be a member of any club, you don't need land. In principle with a shotgun the police have to show why you should NOT have one. In your case, age/immaturity is likely to be a negative, so throwing in lots of positives like clays and vermin control should redress the balance! FAC is VERY different!!! I was answering Witton's question about what would be good reason. And you're absolutely right Deker, the onus is on the police to say :"Nah, he'

golf course permissions
humperdingle replied to quicksilver's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My local plod won't entertain anything other than FAC air rifle on my golf course. Bit of a shame really as I can't control the foxes. Also, the deer cause a lot of damage to newly planted saplings. -
"I want it for shooting clays, maybe a little rough shooting when I get a permission" That's all the reason you need.

With subsonics, the difference is quite noticeable. The real difference comes when you hear the difference in report from a standard shotgun firing standard loads, and the hushpower firing subsonics. From 50 yards away it's like a clapped hand next to you. From 100 yards away, its barely more than a pop. Hard to explain really, but a major difference when side by side with a "normal" shotgun.

Hmm, Just bought this gun recently: 12g single barrel Pedretti Hushpower And now I can't afford a moderator for the .22-250!!! So it's up for sale unfortunately. PM me to get a link to another forum with a full write-up on the gun, as well as pictures. Would prefer a local buyer. I'll only RFD transfer if the receiving RFD arranges collection from my RFD by courier. Looking for £180.

I have a 12g Pedretti Hushpower - Just bought it, but it's up for sale so I can buy a moderator for my .22-250 ('Cos it's VERY loud!) Used with subsonic carts (1100 fps or so) they are very quiet from just a short distance away. To be honest, ANY calibre of shotgun will kill rabbits as long as the gun is pointed in the right direction. If you're interested in one, PM me. I'll put a thread up in the for sale section, although it's on other forums. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=87687

You don't realise the difference between subsonics and standard carts too much when you're standing right next to the gun. The bigger difference is 50 yards or more away. Subsonics will sound little more than a close-up air rifle from 100 yards away, and virtually inaudible past 200 or 300 yards. Shove them up a hushpower and they're much quieter still.

.17 HMR V-MAX - Whats going on???????
humperdingle replied to hotel2zero's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I'd read something like this on another forum ages ago. If I remember rightly, the explanation was something like the manufacturers were using up stock piles of the HM2 bullet head with blue tip in the HMR casing, purely because the demand for HM2 had dropped so much. Might be rubbish, but sounds plausible enough. -
Unfortunately it just takes time, mate. As has been said, give it another week or two and then phone up the firearms dept for an update on how your application is progressing. A pile of certificates can sit on a senior officer's desk for days waiting to be signed!

Here's a couple of mine: The new CZ550 .22-250, and 12g Pedretti Hushpower...
-
I have the CZ581 - predecessor, but almost identical to the CZ511, and I use Remington subsonics in it most of the time. Reliable enough as long as the action is kept clean. Fox with a .22 rimfire, and you would need a special condition on your cert. My force won't allow any rimfire for fox.
-
Better off just to buy one that you can hold in the mouth. That way you can squeak and hold the rifle in position at the same time.
-
You can download a PDF from here: http://www.czub.cz/navody/cz511_en.pdf The trigger unit is released via a push-in clip. That just comes out and the action can be dismantled for cleaning. A bit of a tip is to take the magazine apart aswell and give it a good clean out. Mine were full of crud, and were not cycling subsonics properly.
