  1. I'll keep my .22-250 doing 3,700 fps I think... I LIKE the noise And keep my .22 rimfire for subs.
  2. PM me your address and I can send a couple of .22-250 cases.
  3. A synthetic stocked CZ452 with blued barrel is a "Silhouette". Most moderators will work well on a .22lr. Try the SAK, Parker Hale or Sirocco SM11.
  4. Yeh i've heard of the same rifle being on more that one FAC. Can happen where more than one person shares a gun cabinet.
  5. A cut, thread and recrown should be £50-£60. Well worth it to get it done professionally. You don't NEED to have it re-proofed unless it's being sold privately.
  6. Full power, heavy recoil and the trigger is a bit pants. Buy a 2nd hand Weihrauch and get the superb Rekord trigger into the bargain!
  7. I just ordered that off Amazon... about a month before it's in stock!
  8. If he has a smaller calibre rifle... i.e. rimfire .22 or .17hmr, i'd say practice with that first. Oh, and practice your... ahem... winking.
  9. Could it be the mount jaws? If the scope has been knocked, maybe the clamps got a bit gouged? Problem is, it could be so many things, but luckily re-zeroing is an excuse to fire more rounds!
  10. I just had my .22-250 CZ550 cut, threaded and crowned yesterday. He did it while I waited (Just over an hour to do) Absolutely fascinating to watch a master at work, and I never knew just how much work... measuring...balancing the barrel in lathe...measuring again... "clocking in the lathe"...So now i'm the proud owner of a Wildcat Predator 8 mod. Cost me £50 for the work, and worth every penny. Work was carried out by a gunsmith called Charlie Geddes in Tayport, and the whole thing was an education!
  11. I tend to use whatever i've got at the time. I've used 24g No.7 steel shot up to 36g BB shot equally well. If anything, take a selection with you. If the birds are coming in low, use a smaller shot, and the converse for higher birds. Only problem with BB shot is that they have huge gaps in the pattern even with full choke. A number 5 or 6 32 gram load is good for most circumstances though.
  12. They seem to hold their price pretty well second hand. Check on guntrader.com for going rates.
  13. That one was totally the guy's fault - She didn't even have the thing in her shoulder!
  14. 25p per clay + 15p per cart roughly at my local shoot. That's £4 for 10 shots (eek!) £40 for 100... Gawd, no wonder I shoot real pigeons these days... much cheaper!!
  15. Never heard of a moderator without baffles of some kind... Can't see it really being effective either. If no baffles, was it a completely empty can?
  16. Yeh I saw that after I re-read the post... thought it didn't look right lol.
  17. Let's make it a bit simpler: Take a 1lb chunk of lead. Take 1/12th of it, roll it into a ball, and that's a 12 gauge. Take 1/20th of it, roll it into a ball, and that's a 20 gauge. And so on. Filling up a shotgun barrel with balls of lead is nothing to do with it, neither is the length of the barrel... 10g 0.78" (19.7 mm) 12g 0.73" (18.5 mm) 16g 0.66" (16.8 mm) 20g 0.62" (15.6 mm) 28g 0.55" (14.0 mm)
  18. I got a .22-250 not long ago. Great calibre - Fast and flat, but to be honest, either calibres are going to do the business at "Normal" shooting distances. Anything over 200 yards at night and the margin for error increases mucho. You may have a better selection of rifles and ammo in .223 though.
  19. 2 3/4 stone isn't unreasonable for a well-fed male fox i'd say. Especially if it's been helping itself to some chickens aswell.
  20. You need to fill one of the sheets out for acquiring the shotgun, and your mate needs to fill one out for disposing it. Both then get sent (separately I'd say) to the firearms dept. Also, your mate needs to fill in the details of the gun onto your crisp new license. I wouldn't bother about a bead... I never look at the bead on my shotgun, as you only really need to focus on the clay / bird. Get a decent bag for carrying flask, shells, sandwiches etc (And game ) Wouldn't bother with a cartridge belt - Too much faffing about.
  21. I had a DM80 on my CZ452 17hmr. As stated before, no moderator will make a .17hmr really quiet, but I thought the difference between not having a DM80 and having one was pretty considerable. It's always very difficult to compare differences in sound when going purely by ear... Just too many variables. Looking to get a mod for my .22-250 soon... Now THAT'S loud!!
  22. There aren't any hard and fast rules, mate. It's more about the suitabiility (i.e. good backstops) rather than the area of land. I have one shoot which is about 200 acres, and was deemed fine for my .22-250.
  23. Yeh not bad... Shame you missed the 5p...
  24. I wasn't permitted a .243 based on the fact I didn't have any shoots where deer was to be shot. .243 was over-kill for fox apparently! So I was left with .222, .223 and .22-250. The shop had each calibre in a few different makes, but I plumped for a CZ 550 in .22-250. Flatter trajectory due to the higher velocity, and was a nice piece of kit - virtually brand new. Just started basic reloading so I'm looking forward to trying out some home loads. Any of the .22 centrefires will do the job though.
