  1. I`ve hatched a few geese in incubators, but the % success rate is very poor. You need to turn them morning and night, ensure the temperature and humidity is right etc.I hatched 2 out of 12 last time. You`re better off buying day olds and keeping them under a heat lamp for a month, they`ll be fine then.I`ve never kept ducks so can`t tell what their eggs are like to hatch.Have a look at "Cyril Bason" website, they`re not expensive and also deliver.
  2. What are you after Oxford or Carlisle OEG?
  3. My bitch had a broken toe about three years ago which also became infected. The vet said she might have to have it off.The vet gave her some antibiotics which did nothing. The vet gave her some stronger antibiotics the following week and the swelling went down a few days later.I didn`t let her run for about two months after and it healed fine. She`s never had a problem since.Make sure you don`t run the dog too soon and allow it to heal.Like lads have already said, dogs will run fine without the odd toe.Good luck.
  4. What way was she bred, was the GSD the dam or sire?I have a Dutch Shepherd pup, nearly 9 months old who`s a bit of a handfull at times so I know what you mean with them not being for the beginner.Keep us posted on her progress.
  5. The working dog food I give my dogs contains dry pasta and I feel it gives them that little bit extra energy and size.Carbohydrates will definately give a fit dog more muscle mass as it breaks down to glycogen which is stored in the muscle cells. Most racing greyhounds have boiled rice(high in complex carbohydrates) as a big part of their diet.
  6. There`s loads of growing to do in her yet.She should make a good size being 1/4 wheaten. All the best
  7. I agree,a 3/8 Beddy 5/8 greyhound would make a handy cross.
  8. What are your plans to get you started? If you can`t find something to do the job you want I`ll send you a couple of these,if you pay for the shipping .Good luck
  9. They would not be an ideal dog for a coyote with 200 yard head start on big land, your big staghounds are the tools of that trade. Are there any working bedlington or wheaten blooded dogs over in Canada/USA?I think the working Airdales you have over there could contibute well to staghound breeding.A staghound with say a 1/4 or 1/8th Airdale in it could be a better single handed dog and would still have the legs and size for the job.
  10. He`s got good acceleration and is a sharp turner,he doesn`t miss much on the lamp.Pre ban,I wouldn`t use him on day time hares as he`s not built for really long runs.
  11. A lot of 1st crosses have the fawn wheaten coat, but 2nd and 3rd generation half crosses seem to throw some smooth coats.A mate of mine recently bred a litter 1st cross dog to 2nd generation half cross and there was only one fawn/wheaten colored dog,the rest were black and brindle.
  12. Back to basic training.Concentrate on training your dog to "Stay"(stand still) and come to you when called(easy with dog biscuits).Be very firm in your commands and don`t give in to her at all.Work on it regularly when out for a walk, correcting her when she doesn`t "stay".The next time she catches a rabbit just stand still and command her to "stay" in your best firm voice and recover the rabbit(don`t worry about spoiling the rest of the field`s rabbits etc your priority is training her).Train and work her alone for a while with no other dogs present and you should be fine.
  13. Your parents want to control you mate. You`ve been away from them for 3 years and doing ok and enjoying yourself with your dogs. They`re controlling you already, before you`ve even moved back in,telling you to get rid of 3 of your dogs.Moving back in would be a mistake in my opinion.Find a job somewhere else.Your parents have little respect for you, telling you to get rid of something so special to you.All the best
  14. The Countryman`s Weekly is made up of about 90% of the same adverts which are in it every week. The other 10% are storys in the usual limited catagories and the classified adverts. So really your paying for that 10% which is usually in there to fill the space.I actually saw it tonight in my local petrol station and thought I`ll only be pissed off if I buy it and read it only to find it contains exactly what I believed it would(even though it`s only £2).
  15. Yes mate. The colour of her show should become lighter after around a week and a half and remain like that until she shows darker again towards the end of her cycle.I must say that my bitch has only recently finished in season. Her cycle was this time longer than usual.I was testing her with my dog lurcher and she was still standing for him at 24 days from her first show.Maybe it`s something to do with the cold weather.
  16. What are you hoping to achieve from the breeding? If it`s extra size and strength then either will do for you. What size is your beddy whippet and what work will you be wanting them to do?Here`s my beddy greyhound x wheaten greyhound. Good luck with your choice.
  17. Are the grand sire and sire Hancocks` stud dogs? Nice pup
  18. Rats could activate the trap and then escape through the mesh.It does happen to me occasionally.
