  1. Long while ago this one moxy. I get what your saying though...remember my thread on registerd mole catchers.?? Not a single normal reply. It speaks volumes. This is a trapping and pest control section and if im right moles go in traps and pest controllers catch moles with traps. No? Sorry mate,i disagree. There was some that i would regard as, " normal replies."
  2. I wouldnt recommend you buy them. Its the procter barrel trap.I bought some to try,and was disappointed. They were not fit for purpose !
  3. I agree, badgers and foxes will sometimes, carry mole traps off.
  4. I have never used markers,i feel it gives the game away, LOL .Although, im not setting the large amounts, that some are.So i work a system similar,to what you were saying.
  5. I had a ' jack pyke ' game bag Tom.Lasted me three seasons, no problem. Its a vinyl interior,so easy to rinse the mud out ,off the traps.Shop around ,I got it for about £20,well worth the money. It done the job fine.
  6. I think its peaking where i am,as far as male moles on the move, after females,is concerned.Loads of double catches (mostly males) this week, in particular.Thats the traps ive been able to locate, under the snow mind ! Quite a site, me scraping the snow away furiously, with my mole spade. LOL ( with only a 4 inch wide head on it too ) Anyone want to lend me a snow shovel ! ha-ha.
  7. What was it again 2 gramme bottles. How many worms could you bait with this, i forget . LOL 100 worms = 2grs of stryc Did you ever have to buy in your worms Matt, i understand there could be a fair cost attached,if you opted for this way. LOL
  8. Well this is it,i always believed a correctly set trap, would always provide a swifter death , for old moley......trappings definately more labour intensive, but much more satisfying, than going round with the poison worms. No fun at all, LOL
  9. The one you can see in the picture was put in this evening, so just hopeing it works out..ive never used them before. Ive got the cheap talpex types all over the place, i never seem to fail with them, its almost 100% catch rate for me using them and i dont find live moles in them so they do the job.. I love the fenn trap aswell..works spot on almost everytime i put one in. Atb Marty If you haven't caught one in the morning consider moving it. The trap doesn't look like it's set tight enough for my liking. Set it in tighter in another good location and it should do the job, Sor
  10. Do you spread this kind of advice around your own forum,as well John ? I dont have a forum, but if i did, i would spread it with marmite. I thought that was your forum, on 'molecatcher uk' ? or is it no more. ?
  11. Just thinking about it,pity i dont use markers, because at least i would have been able to recover ,the ones that are out. LOL

  13. Interesting, up here it was something like 75p an acre, but the ex-keeper i worked for charged £1.
  14. What was it again 2 gramme bottles. How many worms could you bait with this, i forget . LOL
  15. Matt,i did this a couple of times as an adult.Hard work trying to get a good load, and trying to walk in the turned over soil ! Someone i worked for had us using strychnine, for a brief period. We stored the worms in a plastic drum ,filled with layers of turf. You could store a good quantity of worms, and they kept for quite a while.Plenty of drainage holes, and lid off, obviously.
  16. One or two near me used a syringe.I take it they mixed strychnine with water, then apparently injected the worm. I guess the worm lasted longer, and appeared more natural.Im guessing their method actually, but they definately used the syringe.
  17. " Bridging " under the trigger of the talpex trap, is definately advantagous to achieving success with it.I cant help but feel sometimes though,if the trigger is set too lightly (trigger pin just held in hole, and no more ! ) this is then responsible, for some failures.
  18. For those of you who used the poison, ( before 2006) can anyone answer honestly ,whether you prefered it to the traps,or not ? Also, anyone have any opinions, on the ban of it ?
  19. Matt, thanks for the info, although i find it all interesting, some of it is way above my head. he-he Youll appreciate im just a humble mole catcher ! LOL
  20. I was taught how to catch moles by Jeff Nichols, and have not looked back since. This year has been one of the best years so far for catching moles so bring on the wet weather as the moles love it.I have a certain amount of respect for him.He done his bit, as far as the demise of strychnine, was concerned. Jeff Nichols is now known as the leading light within the mole catching ( not killing ) community, he is well known as a knowlegable and respected professional. Who told you that Snakey? Jeff by any chance? Funny you should mention that Earthy; at that time I sat on the Servicing Co
  21. If i remember correctly somebody from Rentokil, also argued against its retention.I wonder why ? ha-ha.
  22. " He did nothing to help or hinder the withdrawal of strychnine " When the BPCA (or some other body) tried to get it retained under " essential use " status, the relevant dept at the european commission, invited comments from interested parties/individuals.Jeff,along with myself, and the PAN group, and possibly one or two others, submitted our arguments about why it shouldnt be retained.I think more argued for it though.I remember Jeffs reply being comprehensive ( unlike my own ha-ha ) In the end the commision decided, the case wasnt proven........this is all i meant........... " It was withd
