Any One Had This Before With Moles
earth-thrower replied to Mark White's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Well theres a thought, the customer up to some dirty tricks. Its sadly, not unheard of.I once turned up for a farmer to set some traps, only he failed to tell me, he had someone round with strychnine, 3 or 4 days before ! Moles can also vacate certain parts of the territory, and there could be a few reasons for this.I sometimes get it round about this time of year,on some lawns in particular, round some grand country pad.You can usually tell with an area, before you put traps in.Some places have alot of " rhodie bushes" this may make the soil more acidic, and therefore a low worm count........... -
well lads, ive decided theres going to be no more of this, " leave some for next season " approach, for me anymore ! ho-ho-ho

we now have a massive problem with badgers !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you should read this weeks farmers guardian and be horrified by the amount of cattle culled because of bovine TB all down to fecking brocks Bovine TB has been ' endemic ' in the national herd, for a long time now, and im certainly not fully convinced at this stage, its all down to badgers.......... Google the thornbury experiment, the culled the badgers in that area, all of them! TB dropped to zero for around 10 years, then over time infected badgers returned and so did TB. No coincidence there! The only reason badgers

Anything Worthwhile To Say?
earth-thrower replied to OldTrapCollector's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
no mate its just the mods have to cover all sections of the site not just one, plus some stuff you dont see. so some of the time they could find themselves out of there depth on certain subjects, so a hand from the regular contributors to the section would be of far greater value than a slagging and no this is not aimed at you just a general observation I can also appreciate, its not always an easy job..... -

I wouldnt take for granted, that all moderators on here, are necessarily "competent" for the role, anyway. Also, some people may have too high an opinion of themselves, sometimes. Before anyone tells me,maybe ive been guilty of this myself,occasionally................but i try not to be now. LOL -
I had a ' jack pyke ' game bag Tom.Lasted me three seasons, no problem. Its a vinyl interior,so easy to rinse the mud out ,off the traps.Shop around ,I got it for about £20,well worth the money. It done the job fine. Had a look Tom,think theyre going for around £25. Youve got the " netting " pocket on the front , to store the moles in too. LOL

60 Traps....gone!!!!!
earth-thrower replied to derbylad1's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
What a dirty ,rotten , thing to do.Your instincts are probably right ,about the lamper,as well.Makes your blood boil ! With you putting down about 60 , i take it you used markers.............. if so, i understand. I made a point earlier of saying,i never use markers, cause it gives the game away. -
Well, funny you should say that. I reckon the one that was the wrong way would have squeezed past the trigger somehow, at speed and dislodged the other trigger on its way through. I had this a while ago, I wanted a mole alive for something so when i saw a fresh hill being turned at the side of the road i stopped the car and dropped a 'weak and shit chinese trap that i carry for such occasion' into the run./A quick stamp later and the mole was caught,. but the wrong way around and fully alive......Funny things them moles ain't they! Ive had this a couple of times, le brac. I believe Darcys o

Hit & Miss With The Moles
earth-thrower replied to Yokel Matt's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Please give us poor elderly folk, an honest account of the contents,..if it is educational,.I shall start saving for a copy. Many thanks,.Chalkwarren.. My copy arrived today. I read it while I munched my lunch in a layby. Yes, it is that brief. I think it's clearly aimed at the complete novice, and gives clear and concise instruction in the use of Talpex style traps and the Duffus. Lots of B&W photos, and some bollocks, but then I suppose that's par for the course these days. I'm a sucker for any mole related media, but I'm afraid it's not a book I would recom -
