  1. Good stuff, how long have you been mole catching ?
  2. Aye, but it seems 'herd incidence' fell at roughly the same levels, in Northern ireland, with no badger culling, over the same period.............. where have you seen that chap. I seen it from a graph of the official statistics, taken from both irish agricultural departments.
  3. Although ive never been entirely ' comfortable ' trapping pregnant or lactating females, during the breeding season, its unrealstic to expect professional molecatchers,to abide by a ' close season ' .Customer demands and expectations prevent this.

  5. Interesting observation.I believe the latest research could indicate a slight increase. They estimate the badger population at around 25,000 individuals.Hardly a large population, i would suggest.
  6. Don't kid yourself they just kill one and run away. There every bit as deadly as a fox. Duno if we ever see em at work they tend to be running off with 1 and no sign of other dead. you know when charlies been coz theres dead everywhere, you can see where its started a load with the heads bit of and buried then rest hardly have a mark on them most we lost was 200 odd in 1 day from a vixen with cubs. Nice smelly chicken that's bin under the brooders all night in trap now so see what happens. I've had hundreds killed a few times before we got a good electric fence fitted and it was a badger. I
  7. The "science" isn't even science BH. It is a politically driven scheme and nothing else. Ah, now I though it was a trial in two areas over a five year period with a four year rest and investigation period (as they did before) but it is a nationwide scheme. They will monitor the two areas for effectivenes of badger removal, safety of the work and the humaness of the kills, after that are going nationwide with it. We are looking at a reduction in badgers upto -90% in some areas. How can that be justified as a cul. A cull is to control, this will nearly wipe them out with no scientific eviden

  10. Well, from what ive gleaned from the reports, the " testing regime " isnt infallible. Some also claim cattle being moved around, for restocking, after the foot and mouth crisis, introduced TB to areas, where it hadnt been a problem previous.I can certainly accept however, that there are too many badgers in certain parts, and this can lead to problems with them. How come its alright for the government to be able to kill thousands of them ? But if a responsible countryman/pest controller had to resolve a situation with any "problem badgers",where a suitable " lethal control " method,is the best sol
  11. Well theres a thought, the customer up to some dirty tricks. Its sadly, not unheard of.I once turned up for a farmer to set some traps, only he failed to tell me, he had someone round with strychnine, 3 or 4 days before ! Moles can also vacate certain parts of the territory, and there could be a few reasons for this.I sometimes get it round about this time of year,on some lawns in particular, round some grand country pad.You can usually tell with an area, before you put traps in.Some places have alot of " rhodie bushes" this may make the soil more acidic, and therefore a low worm count...........
  12. well lads, ive decided theres going to be no more of this, " leave some for next season " approach, for me anymore ! ho-ho-ho

  15. Ive just discovered the ' Beagle easy set mole trap ' ( do a search ) " master mole catchers " from the ' guild ' apparently, endorsing products to gardeners ! Quite happy then, to do professionals out of a job.Whats it all coming too ?
  16. Please, tell the landowner I SAID ,he is to get his money out , and pay a mole catcher ! ( he-he-he )
  17. There seems to be an unusual increase in mole numbers, on some of my trapping ground, this winter/spring.Anyone else experiencing this also ?
  18. we now have a massive problem with badgers !!!!!!!!!!!!!! you should read this weeks farmers guardian and be horrified by the amount of cattle culled because of bovine TB all down to fecking brocks Bovine TB has been ' endemic ' in the national herd, for a long time now, and im certainly not fully convinced at this stage, its all down to badgers.......... Google the thornbury experiment, the culled the badgers in that area, all of them! TB dropped to zero for around 10 years, then over time infected badgers returned and so did TB. No coincidence there! The only reason badgers
