  1. well my advice would be to take the logical step to a 243/6mm caliber . you say your mate has a 6mm ppc dont just follow others for the sake of keeping up with the joneses the majority of 6mm calibers are wildcat calibers and are normally custom builds and chambering for set bullet weights etc unlikely to pick up much in the way of factory builds or sh also may have problems explaining why you want a 6br for deer as not all flo are gened up on them . personally if buying new would go for a 243caliber remmy 700 action shoot out the barrel and then in a few years you can rebarrel in
  2. some reduced velocity loads are listed in some loading manuals for junior loads etc but most run over 1100 fps so are still supersonic , as posted before some mods are better than others and the weather conditions and background and fore ground can give perception that shot is noisey but you are mostly hearing reflected sound . go out and fire some rounds and note the sound you observe and you will get use to being able to perdict weather you will get a lot of noise or just a crack and when you get use to it you can shoot as if you are using sub sonic ammo and all you will hear is a crack.
  3. quick silver, any balistic tipped ammo is better than soft point much depends on weather you reload or use factory fodder another option is to go for 40 grain heads if you can find them or fifties if no balistic tipped is available then some of the light hollow point offering are quite explosive on inpact and wont exit if they hit bone.
  4. hi john, take a sample down to your local photographic shop or some one like jessops . the xenon bulbs are commonly used in slide projectors or digital pojectors can normally be got for around a fiver for a 100w bulb.
  5. 5.56 nato mil surplus is designed for 5.56 chambers and are stamped as such also throat lenghts are different enough to cause problems. now 7.62 mil surplus is ok in the 308 chamber as the pressure is as stated lower and for some people you dont do a lot of range work is the easy option for a days plinking but dont feed 7.62 nato chambers 308 spec loaded ammo it not safe pressure is higher in 308 than 7.62
  6. hi quicksilver, redding big boss or rcbs rockchucker for a press both available as starter kits with powder throwers primer seaters etc. dies redding then rcbs for neck sizing cant beat the lee powder several 223 preformers depends on whats available near you varget h335 vhit 133 all good bullets 1in 9 twist barrels are for match work mostly and are prefered for the 60 t0 75 grain weight lighter bullets will work but dont drive them over 3000 fps or you could get problems with jacket seperation or blow ups 55 grn vmax my not take to well t
  7. hi aZmAn, if your serious about reloading and 223rem is a nice caliber to start with lots of info and loads around for starting points ask your self if you would ever consider loading for other calibers if it is remotely near a maybe or yes then save your self some down the line greif and go for a better set up and buy just once the rockchucker supreme kits are surperbly built and will last out your grandkids doing serious amounts of reloading also the redding kits are similar in build quailty . there is nothing wrong with the lee stuff it does the job but you will wear it out .f
  8. hi guys, well me thinks you have fallen into a classic reloading trap if you have trimmed the cases looking in my speer manual 44grains of h414 is max load now if this is used in a loose chamber ie more case expasion then it is probally shooting as safe in that chamber . but now you are using the same load in a new chamber in the howa and hey presto we have pressure signs as the case expansion is less so more pressure and hence pressure signs just one reason you should be wary of useing someones elses data for your gun or borrowing a round it might chamber ok but that is onl
  9. hi guys, intresting read this thread lots of things been done and tried but no mention of triming to lenght, would seriouly suspect that the cases need trimming to lenght espicially as been used in a different chamber.if long in the throat you may get away it but seems your new howa has a tight chamber so case pinching bullet during expansion backed up a bit as new factory ammo which is to lenght works ok the ordering of new brass will cure the problem until case lenght grows again. graham.
  10. hi guys , the 243 seems a fickle thing to load for what works for one wont work for others my howa hates noslers below 90 grains but 90 grainer will one hole with 37 grains of varget also loves 87 grain v maxes only light bullet got to work so far is a 70 grain sierra blitzking with 40 grains of varget again a one holer as near as dammitt but cant get 70 grain matchkings to work yet for some paper punching. now my mate has a sako that will shoot the same loads but his likes noslers and hate sierra blitzkings also his likes vitavouri powders and dosent seem to preform with varget .
  11. hi ric, in answer to your query most manufactures of bullet heads offer traditional soft point bullets ie exposed lead point construction and they have worked effectively over the years. recent developments have lead to what is commonly grouped as the balistic tipped bullets they where designed as the name sugests to improve the balistic performance of the bullet by giving a better balistic coefficient over a similar fmj or soft point or hollow point bullet. the added advantage being that the bullet on impact with tissue expand more readily due to the wedge effect of the tip
  12. hi guys, reflex moderators dont like wd40 as wd 40 is a water based penertrating fluid search around for a true oil based one 3 in one is good or your local john deere dealer ship has there own brand which i kersone based my 223 one is 7 years old now with no problems. graham
