dont know if this will help but, i had massive problems getting my pup to retrieve literally tried everything thing for months. she could pic up and carry and run around with here dummy/toys but would never bring it back, in the field she would just kill rabbits and stand over them, when called in she would leave them were she killed them. i took her out with a great live to hand retieve collie x and still nothing. the only thing that made her twig was that once she caught her rabbit and was standing over it protecting her kill, my mate slipped another dog who wanted to pic her kill up. as soo

how many of lurcher/hound owners believe in bonding with your dogs before you train/ask them to do want you want or expect of them. My grandfather and my father both trained and run greyhound for a long time, and they've always said that to bring a dog on it s got to love you and be doing its job, because they know you expect it of them? been spending alot of time 1to1 with my little un on her retriving and jumping ova the last wk and have to say the results are amazing. i have got her doing commands with hand signals at 17months. how many of you out there spend large amounts of time with th

just looking for some sound advice, my first season lamping with my 18mnth old saluki/greyhound/whippet. Im chuffed to bits with here performance, she has picked up so much of my mates 5yr old colli/greyhound. I have tought her to jump, come to heel with clicker myself. Only problem is im find it hard to get her to retrieve, not all that bothered if its live! whats training methods would you best recomend?

just posted in another thread re: lurcher breeds, saluki/whippet/greyhound. mines 16month old and a rabbit machine! funny thing had her of a breeder in sarn, just down the road from you. Funny thing you should want to get into lamping, i fancy a bit of day work on the ferrets and dog. give me a pm if you fancy an outing im only up the road in neath!

Whippet definately, don't need a lurcher, that's what a whippet was bred for. But a lurcher whippet greyhound collie if you must have a lurcher. ill second that mate, my mates got collie/greyhound/whippet- 6yr old shit hot on comands and retreiveing, but aint got a patch on my 16month saluki/whippet. last outing 10slips, 9 bunnies, mostly taken in small fields. funny thing pencoedhunter i bought her of a breeder in sarn!

hey everyone, been looking round the forum for a couple of days and thinks it an exellent pool of info, and a sound bunch of like minded guys. Im from swansea, south wales and have been into hounds since i was born (my dad and grandfather used work racing greyhounds). Im 24 on have just brought on my second lurcher saluki/whippet+greyhound, i think! I also do a bit of shooting with the air riffle on the rabbits, but my main passion lays with the dogs. look forward to getting involved in some thread.
