do you know why the pup is barking is it because its alone, try puting a radio in with it and just leave it on low the pup will think people are near. it may just grow out of it but my brothers pointerxlab never did and was extremely distructive (chewed right through the kitchen door at bout 6mnths) and a spray collar was used to great effect. or sneaking up on the pup with a water pistol but dont let the dog see you if possible. noise = water from nowhere so il b quiet and dry. bringing on 2 dogs is very hard work unless you have loads of time to spend, did it once with a cocker and a lurcher

Still got this book burried away somwhere... all i'll say is.. it has got more contradictions in it than anything else i've ever read, heard or watched! still fresh in my after umpteen years!! Read worse books.... pinch of salt and all that if you know what i mean!! I think it is the seond best book written by the Nutter Plummer. The best the "The Fell Terrier", obviously this is my own opinion. i have read this book and most of plummers other books like the someone else said it has a few contradictions in it as most of his books do. i never met the bloke but i know a lad who knew

To teach a new dog to jump or NOT?
Steve McHardy replied to NOOK/ANNA's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i always teach my dogs to jump most of the time its a good idea due to navigating obsticles during a nights lamping or even a day time mooch there will always be heart stopping moments when a dog is running quarry and it goes through a fence. ive seen dogs that dont jump hit fences and bounce but if they had hit a post its lights out where ive seen my old bith just take them in her stride without stopping and picking her quarry up on the other side. i think there are a lo of factors to look at type of ground and the obsticles you come across. my mates old dog almost disembowled himself on a ba -
goin out with a keeper mate of mine to have a look for some foxes with the terriers cant wait

i did that once kenneled my collie x grey with my terrier the lurcher wouldnt look at anything that bit back but she killed the terrier and didnt get a mark on her and the terrier was a hard little bitch. the lurcher had never even had a fight before or since well she past it now well into her dotage. lesson learned never kennel lurcher and terriers together as the terrier will start the fight but the lurcher will finish it

When i was racing whippets the non ped grews long flat back types were far superior in speed to the peds with their roachy little backs. Are you telling me that things have changed that much. The length of back gives a dog of that size an advantage from the point of view, that the spinal column acts like a coiled spring giving the dog greater forward impetus. So you are saying for instance a collie whippet/grey at 21tts long in the back would be more pacyer than a good kc working whippet of around the same size?? the whippet will definately be quicker of the mark but top speed the lon

Screaming its head off!!
Steve McHardy replied to kill um with crisps's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
and that means what exactly???? Have you never seen a dog with cramp before?? It's nothing to do with breedingin mines case it was a bit of cramp that's settled now!!! I was wondering that too mate. A couple of points: there is nothing wrong with my pups breeding in case thats what your on about and Cooper and myself are not from the same place. Another point: If you cant be helpfull please be quiet. Another point: I was suggesting that it could possibly be something thats inherited as i've seen things online before about hancocks having genetic problems before (I think it wa -

saluki based lurchers & foxes.
Steve McHardy replied to toddy2010's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i had a saluki grey x grey collie in early 2000 that was a total terror in my kennels shredded my lab bitches lugs many times and took what ever got up in front of her very cautious of strangers beleive me this bitch would never have been nicked as she would leg it from anyone she didnt know very well but took fox an bambi for fun when it was allowed. she stood at least 26tts. she was a great dog on the open hill on the blue hares as well gave her to a young lad just startin dog work she will be gettin on now but still takes the odd bunny an always retreived to hand. -
how much do you want for her how many miles and where are you. cheers

there a yellow skoda pick up at a garage near me for sale in sw scotland its torr garage near lockerbie yell . com for the num mate no back on it tho
-
go for yellow as the blacks dont work what utter shit mate colour makes no difference if they are off good working stock thats all that matters im on my 3rd gen of black labs but there grandad was yellow they were/are all good working dogs granny only died last year at the age of 14 going out on exercise till the day she died. check the hips and eyes of the parents then go for it. i only prefer blacks cause i do alot of wildfowling and they dont stick out so much but i would have no problem with a yellow.

I would go for neopene toggis comfiest wellies ive ever had but not the full lengh zips as my pair of them started to leak after about 3 years.

Boy of Four killed in dog attack Liverpool
Steve McHardy replied to tomandroz's topic in General Talk
my heart goes out to the family rip lad. its a shame that these gutless f*ckwits that feel the need to own dogs to give them the back bone they sadly lack think they are blameless when the dogs attack kids these idiots think that the dogs go with there "image" i admire the bull breeds for what they are these are dogs which should be worked or given some sort of job they can be ideal pets in the right hands but idiots turn them into weapons its not the dogs fault. how do we change the outlook of the public when these horrible accidents keep on happening. -
i have the same lying down problem when getting her to sit (cocker bitch 15mnths) but only on flat grass fields when shes out beating she sits upright cause she cant see me otherwise. ive just learned to live with it mine will stay as long as she can see me without moving. lifting them up by the scruff is counter productive as the dog just gets more submissive. dont know why she deos it just deos.
-
Both i think its very unusual that a puppy is naturally nasty and any signs of aggression can be sorted at an early age if the owner so wishes but there are too many ar8holes who think ive got a big hard nasty dog im hard too, ( utter f*ckwits) who train the dogs to be the way they end up. DONT BLAME THE DOG.

is my dog too small for lamping
Steve McHardy replied to whippetwoman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
this is like a woman asking ,DOES MY ARSE LOOK BIG IN THIS ,what a stupid question . So that means yes then? at 6mnth your dog still has about a years worth of growing to do mate i wouldnt be letting mine see rabbits at that age just traing and playing. a long time ago mate of mine had a beddy whipp that took charlie the little sod was nuts but he was quite big got hold of a toe nail he had it. dont worry bout your pup mate just enjoy it being a pup and letting it learn it lifes lessons. -
that is pretty much what i was thinking of! exept the ones ive seen were black with full tails, got anymore pics of yours? i have an english pointerxlab and the thing is amazin he will work all day on the moore or in the woods the ground he covers is truly unbeleivabe and he never misses a bird. hes my long range runner specialist has wiped many a pure labs eye including my own on long pricked birds. i would have a kennel full of them if i was still a keeper (wish i was) if there is a bird in whatever cover no matter how thick he goes in has no hair left on his nose poor sod. and he

i had a bitch of that breeding retired now she was 22tts but the dogs were much bigger and one sister i knew they were 25+tts. think mines was smallest in litter. son is in my avatar same colour

cheers mate shes like sh*t off a stick at take off and bags of attitude gives my big lad hell when playing. stubborn isnt the word got her at 9mnths and am startin basically from scratch with her and is proving quite the challenge but one which i will overcome should make a good wee rabbit dog.

my mum has had these dogs for over 30 years so that would make 3 all together the 1st was not much bigger than a lab and a quite clever dog she had a bit of herding instinct but not alot the 2nd was bigger bout 23/24 tts and was the same she did have some prey drive and would hunt cover ok flushing with my lab for my lurcher and now she has the 3rd and final (mum says) she is 25/26tts and is big and extremly brainless very good natures on them all, very very slow to mature still pups at 11 years old i thought of crossing the 2nd with a grey but mum wasnt up for it i was living at hers at the t
