  1. ive had and still have dogs with a bit of both collie types in them and they are very good round the house just seem to flick a switch when they go out. has anyone else noticed that the beardie coat seems to come through quite strong my current lad only has a little beardie in him but the coat has come through, not as rough as his mam but rough all the same his grandad was a hancock bred beardie/3/4gh x and his grandma was the same with border i put his mam to a 3/4 Ghxbull and i am pleased with the result although i know his grandad did everthing asked and would pull whatever was asked of him
  2. god knows where this thread will end up. but im finding it real hard to find houses to rent that allow dogs even kennel dogs. hoping to move up north (Scotland) soon and need a dog friendly house, I only have 5 dogs nearly all kennel dogs quiet and well behaved.
  3. I take it we are talking single handed hare dogs on browns on huge flat fields or organised comps. are not the real hereos the dogs that runs all day behind say a landy on the hills and only leaves the road to catch a hare. dont want to start a argument but but why should match dogs only get a mention.
  4. I have bred from every a one of my bitch at the age of six as i just breed replacments and i know my papa has had litters of collie pups from retired bitches (accidents), all had litters before tho and they raised them nea bother just dont expect a big litter and keep vets num and a load of cash handy, just incase lurchers aint collies. If the bitch is fit enough and the kc cut off is 8 so go for it man.
  5. If you lose it 3 times then its time to give up i'm afraid.......... cost us 15 bucks apiece to get my terriers back after they f*ct off the last time. i live on a farm and they always come bk but sum1 picked them up at a nearby viewpoint and took them to the local kennels. on the bright side they washed the smellie little shits so £15 each was no bad for a wash, blow dry and a bed for the night
  6. totally agree with both the above start small and get bigger try not and set the jump on concrete or slabs as you can risk injury to the dog. my cocker will jump fences and stone walls and has even cleared a gate but did jump from a slightly higher side. your wippet will soon be flying over everything including the garden fence.
  7. I agree whoever breeds the pup can put a name to them its [bANNED TEXT] they do with the name after its made. I have had and I suppose still have bred down lurchers from him, my last bitch both her parents came from him. This I know for sure is both parents of my bitch worked and worked hard. I outcossed my bitch who was basically beardie border with a big dash of grey to a 3/4 grey bull but the pup i kept back looks just like his grandad but red merle instead of blue same size build. the bitch i had was great at stuff that didnt bite back now retired but i have several witnesses that can vouc
  8. i did my apprenticship so to speak, i carried ferrets nets etc got the odd go with the .410 when i started out but like i said i started with fishing but my great uncles mates went shooting an ferreting so i got to go and watch and carry stuff like loads of dead rabbits, learned how to gut and skin them and cook them, learned how to tie flies with the hair from a springer spaniel bloody good too. theres only 1 of those old boys left now an hes in a wheel chair, they taught me respect for my quarry and most importantly how to catch it. I am forever in there debt. Thanks Billy, Gordon and Freddi
  9. I always just feed the night before especialy if there on a meat diet as it takes alot longer to work through them and have never run a bitch in season for the layer of fat reasons. dogs in the wild will only hunt when there hungry if they have food in there bellies they dont need to. they would hunt when there guts were empty
  10. Ermmm, to be honest I don't judge on age, more on how they act, and on a personal note, if I have worked hard to get permission i'm not going to turn up at the farm with a teenager in a hoodie and talking "street", they need to dress, talk and act appropriately............. And I don't judge someone on how much game they take.....some tools may have good dogs but it doesn't make them good dog men......... to true i dont know how anyone can say they judge on how much people get lol. i can go one place get big bags of rabbits and see more. go on another and get none with the same dog. bi
  11. make its bed smaller mate dont use the same material in its bed as you do when you are toilet training the little sod, if your putting paper on the floor to mop up the mess and the pup is allowed to shit on that it will shit on paper anywhere if that deosnt work get a cage for it to sleep in it will soon learn not to shit in bed as it has to stay close to it
  12. Had a black bitch from Rufus the red and a black greyhound called Nell, possibly same litter a brilliant all round wee dog, killed foxes with a passion. Born 1992. I also had a red merle bitch from hancock dogs dont know which as a mate got 2 unrelated and had his own litter dad was beardie x and mam was border x she was wicked on rabbits and hares this was a long time ago but not to keen on charlie she was quite small at 22tts but had bags of stamina and very intelligent excelled if doubled up on hare she would sit in 2nd place til the time was right then kick it up a gear go straight by
  13. I have complete sympathy for the position your in. I was having similar problems with my GSP bitch a couple of months ago, I’d taken her to puppy classes etc, but you’d take her out and she just wanted to please herself, tried all the traditional methods like long check cord all to no avail. I spent a fair amount of time training before I even let her off loose in an enclosed field, thinking that come the time she’s let off and with all the training I’ve done she’ll be obedient, well it didn’t work for me… Plus the fact if they're on the lead they’re not getting rid of the
  14. Not strange at all mate i always crouch or at least bend down to take the retrieve from the dog it makes u look less threatening and overpowering. look at it from the dogs point of view down on the ground people will look huge to them ive even had to lie down on the ground at times. make it all the most fun game it can be and reward the dog when it brings home the retrieve.
  15. you didnt, you said dogs and bitches are mixed. obviousdly you seperate hot bitches. my bitches used to become hot one after the other which drove my dogs mental. there must be huntsmen/huntswomen on here who have encountered and solved this problem. have a few chats with the old guard at shows and fairs they will have seen it all before and will have some good advice.
  16. OOPS! just to clarify free to good home not selling just need her to go to a good home! my terriers will batter into any cover if there the slightest wiff of a bunny get out into scent rich enviroments and the dog will hunt havnt met a terrier yet with no prey drive. a terrier can be a great asset when out with lurchers mine work together along with the lab and the cocker, nothing in cover is missed and the lurcher keeps pace on the outside lookin for a bolt. if you really want rid then good luck she looks a nice wee thing whats the breeding.
  17. i kept mine in a big cage in the house till she was at least 8mnths then phased her into kennel life as i also adlib feed my pup up2 this age then give them 2 meals till 18mnths. i woulnd put a pup in with adults at 8wks unless its the pups mum, pups can be bloody annoying for older dogs and they may puninsh it or worse. have fun with your pocket rocket mine rarely stayed still for more than a few minutes unless gettin petted.
  18. ricky is spot on with his advice its no good just standing shouting at the little sod. get after him a make him relise he can only do what you let him do. he is testing his boundaries and you need to show them to him and consistancy is the key try and find somwhere quiet where loads of other people dont go i know this can be hard if you live in a town. dont cut his nuts off my brother had his pointer lab done against my advice and it made not a bit of difference he still licks at my bitches when they are coming on. dont be to hard on him epsecialy if hes kinda nervous but make it plain that he
  19. yep thats what i meant, aw well feck that will have to introduce some saluki into my line.
  20. if your dog has saluki in it then feet should be fine if you are not wanting or needing that much pace then use a reverse 3/4 collie grey. i had a 3/4 grey beardie x 1stx borderxgrey and ahe was dinamite on mountain blue hares back in the day and bunnies had no chance seen her catch in mid air across a ditch. in her prime she had a few bambis as well (im talkings early 2000)and by the way how can the dog be too fast.?
  21. hows it goin lads an lasses what if any particular care do you take of your bull xs feet and what do you think is best to do when they break and split there nail. My last few dogs have been foot perfect no problems at all apart from the obvious ripped claws and cuts. the lad ive got just now is out of my old bitch which was 3/4 grey beardie 1stx border grey to a 3/4 grey 1/4 apb dog and his feet are nowt like as good, his mam never got the road walking he does and her feet were great ran behind the quad all day catchin stuff whilst i fed pheasants. whats the best way to keep his feet in good
  22. question how many league members deos it take to stage a video, answer that many. what a pile of shit i couldnt even watch it all it was makin me sick.
  23. Thanks for all the replys chaps, looks like a Lab it is then, to be honest i was hoping you was all going to say a sprocker or springer, my mates bitch is going to have a litter of springers soon and he is bloody good at training them too so that would have been job done, but as they say "buy it once & buy it right"..! Yes Steve i realise i have left it a bit late to get my own dog for this season but for the odd occasion i will be going out i can borrow a dog or just use my friends for the time being, i was just trying to plan ahead for next year, i might not even like or get on with the
  24. ive used labs on the foreshore for the past 15yrs and they are great at it my old bitch would sit oposite me in a creek and keep watch when she hit attention there was duck on the way. never bothered with gulls but the bugger would have drowned before she let a bird go in the tide. she nearly dig bringing home a canada as big as her. in short labs all the way. mine have all been black and always will be my next gen is planned for very soon. unless your going to buy a young dog your a bit late to think you could get a pup and have out this season as it wont be old enough.
