  1. 3/4gh bull x border / gh beardie / gh, was mistaken for a deerhound x in a lurcher show. (by the judge)
  2. have to agree with hilly mate not sure about vizlas and chasing game in a gundog is a shootable offence in some peoples eyes and not recomended, i know german wirehaired pointers are hardy dogs and more than caple of dispatching charlie but that is it can be caught ans as said before they aint slow. if this dog is meant to be your girls pet the best bet is to train it to a good level of obedience and leave it with her and get yourself a lurcher that what they are for and alot cheaper than a vizla.
  3. cheers lads, have you ever known a dog to mark fox\rabbit runs? Usually if they hit a run through grass they will run the line, if it's gone through a hedge or cover recently mine sometimes pauses and marks where it's gone through as if he thinks it's gone to ground, but then usually pushes through once he's figured it out. my old lurcher bitch would look into the hole with a foot up like a pointer if there was anything at home, my old lab would mark as well she would just sniff the hole and stand back looking at it.

  6. the best lurcher that ive ever had ,she was good, had a fat wallet at the time to prove it and she had both collies in her. her mam was a 2nd x gh border and her dad was a hancock bred 3/4gh beardie x would run behind the quad all day. when feeding my pheasants she would lie by the quad outside the pen if i was checkin snares she would jump the deer fence to come with and have a look ( this was pre ban and this dog is now drawing her pension). the only thing with collie blooded dogs and i dont think this is a fault but if they think its a slip too far they dont go. i bred my bitch to a well
  7. the dog in my pic is kinda sandy red merle he has blue an white bits in his eyes just like his mam which i also had. turning out to be decent.
  8. im in dumfries sw scotland mate just over the border.
  9. for sale my vauxhall combo 1.7d, its on a x plate but its the old shape. 107,000 ish miles on the clock, it has about 10 months mot and a few months tax. Its ply lined with a half solid half weldmesh dog guard. Bad bits are the back doors are a bit rusty but still ok. lookin for £650. will try an get some photos up as soon as i can persuade the missus to do it. Pm me for number. Cheers Steve
  10. cheers folks she is swollen but is in fine fettle so i will keep an eye on her for a bit, no intention to breed her for a good few years as she isnt 2yrs old yet and has alot to prove before i think about breeding. thanks for the help. steve
  11. I got a 3/4 bull grey bitch off this lad bout 4mnths ago she was badly under weight when i got her, we have now got her into alot better condition and she has come into heat but she has bled more than any other bitch ive had. dont think she had come into heat before due to her lack of condition cause she really was skinny. has anyone else had any experience of this there is no smell or dodgy looking discharge just alot of what you would expect. cheers folks. steve
  12. I still use jayes mate hell of a price now as well. You could try agricultural stores for some dairy disinfectant but some of that stuff is way to strong so read all labels i just scub with jayes every other day a good wash down with water inbetween.
  13. black all the way ive had black labs for over 15 years now although ive just bred a litter with 2 yellow and a red fox variant im keeping the smallest black bitch gen 4 for me. cannae beat your own.
  14. 1 of the black bitches went today to a keeper friend of mine, I was out beating today with the mother and the guy who has the sire was there picking up and he just decided he would have 1 so thats good news another 1 to a working home based on the work of the parents, as it should be.
  15. if the dogs likes to chew it will reduce the hombase shed to kindlers in days as they shite without strenthening ie screw ply onto the inside and put in a false floor with it bed box on. i bought a hombase shed and my old lab reduced it dutch barn status by the time she was 6mnts old. dont leave any of the interior wood acessible make it as smoth as possible inside so there is no edge for it to get ites teeth into. ply aint expensive but very necessary. atb with the kennel steve
  16. what sort of thing are you looking for and how much you wanting to pay mate, got a vauxhall combo here got tax and test and it gets me to work an back a 40 mile round trip every day.
  17. got stopped the other week on the way back from beating on a local shoot the missus was driving my van, they didnt mention a thing about guns and i hold both a shotgun and fac ticket. did the missus for my mate bein in the back of the van with the dogs and not havin a seat in, stupid f****r didnt even try an hide the missus was fumin.lol me an him were a bit pissed as we had just had dinner and severl beers with the keeper and his missus we were stinkin of drink didnt even breath test her.
  18. cheers they are good wee pups, there parents are good working dogs. the sire is used to pick up on shoots in my area he belongs to a guy i know, the bitch is a very hard working wee dog and will work cover very well for a lab, i use her for beating and picking up. the grandmother of the pups is still doing a days beating at 13 and can still jump a fence if she has to.
  19. Pictures of puppies on Photobucket 7 week old Labrador puppies for sale. 3 black bitches 1 black dog 1 yellow dog and 1 yellow bitch all available. £300 for dogs and £350 for bitches. KC registered Mother can be viewed. Follow link to view pictures.
  20. my wee cocker was a bit like that when she was younger a few days beating soon sorted that out but at the same time if its empty cover she will just go for a quick look as will my old experienced lab. for me this shows that they are not wasting energy on an fruitless search. if the game is there im sure she will batter in and eject it when the time comes remember to increase the thickness of the cover gradually dont face a pup with thick gorse, dog roses, dense brambles etc. make sure there is a reward for her going in like chuck in a dummy or ball whatever you use do this whens its not lookin
  21. Mine get bone and raw feed on a fairly regular basis usually after ive been out after a roe deer. i take the legs and the fillets and the dogs consume the rest and i mean consume there is nowt left they crunch through ribs, lower legs, the neck my pack get through one in a sitting no worries and just shit chalk for a couple of days. they are generally greedy some more than others. the sound as they crunch through bone just tells you the power in the jaw these dogs have yet my old lab dog will retreive an apple without breaking the skin. ATB with the future decision. Steve
  22. this is the pack I run the lurcher usually stays on the outside waiting for a bolt but if the quarry bolts back into cover hes straight in after it. the big dog lying down is a pointer lab x and no better game findin dog have i owned and he can scoop a sheep shit up without breaking stride.
  23. Couldn't agree more Nik. I'd have nothing left if our labs were kept indoors, mine in particular likes to chew everything it can get to! It's a minor fault when you consider all the positives of this breed though, and if they're kennelled outside not a problem. I also think dogs kept outside are hardier too, as long as they're in a dry draughtproof kennel and get plenty of socialising and exercise. yeah they do chew a bit my old bitch turned a 8x6 shed into dutch barn stlye by the time she was 8mnths give the sods plenty bones and alot of exercise, tired dogs tend not to chew as much i fin
