  1. There should also be some silver half angoras thrown they are no different the normal ferret, and will work just as well. They will be tame and not hand shy but no different to normal ferrets - I have to disagree. Sorry. They will be far more alert and alot faster. I also find that even the half cross's take a bit more handling to bring them to the same level of tameness. They are great animals though and in no way am I putting them down. regards ian
  2. Becoming the pack leader is what is needed as the dog will then respect you. However you dont just need strength to be the leader. While I agree if the dog knows what you want and is just disobeying you then a sharp correction may be in order. In this case though I dont think the dog has a clear idea of what is required. Its just getting overexcited. If you physically and mentally knacker the dog out then you have a calmer dog. Then we can work on respect. This dog is like a stroppy toddler it wants the attention and it wants it now. So far this has worked. We now need to reprogramme t
  3. Hi there. I am no expert but it sounds like the little one is trying it on. He gets excited and bounces round and nips and he the see's your corrections as encouagement. You mentioned that you get stressed out and anyone would understand that. Unfortunately a dog to maintain that high level of excitment for a couple of hours he must be getting a 'feed' of excitement from somewhere. Isolating him could work but you have to see it through and that will mean alot of noise to start with. He has learnt that barking will get him attention. Good or bad its still attention from you so he carrie
  4. Believe it or not they do make great pets. Hard work though. Thanks for the comments on the pup.
  5. No not that one. That would be too easy!!
  6. Yes it is a skunk and thats why it would be a good idea for her to stay away from that end. As for her breeding. The breeder showed me the parents and grandparents pedigrees and they were both of Mick Browns (I think thats it) lines. To be honest I don't know much about whippet pedigrees but the bitch was nicely built and is worked. When I register her then will get some more info.
  7. Not sure she has realised the correct end to play with this new house mate though!!!
  8. Hello all. Here is my new hunting partner. Picked her up last week. She is still a right live wire and loves nothing more than charging round the house chasing my young terrier. Am well pleased with her.

    eagle owl

Problem with a beginner having a small bird though is that they sometimes do not have the weight management skills and will end up with a lost bird or dead one. Not saying a beginner can't fly one but they are harder. Also what happens if they get fed up with flying them to the fist. They then have to get a second bird or sell the first.

    eagle owl

Yes an eagle owl can take quarry but no one has ever found out how to take the quarry off the owl. Well its not quite that bad but owls are not that well mannered when down at hunting weight and on quarry. If you want to hunt then I think you would soon get fed up with an owl. As has been said a Harris or Red Tail would be a far better choice. They will cope with your early errors in weight management and only get better as you do.
  11. You are closer to the truth than you know. I dont drive and there was no one around to scrounge a lift off. Thats a bit of a bummer then; where do you live? Telford, Shropshire
  12. Whippet it will be and I really have a fancy to a blue. I know colour has nothing to do with working ability but I just love them.

  14. Thought about this. There was a stunning 1/8beddy 7/8ths whippet pup on here the other day and I was very tempted. Just too far for me to get to.
  15. Thanks for the replies and advice. Stunning dog dangergirl.
  16. 30 odd viewings and no-one has a comment. Come on folks dont be shy!
  17. Hi there. I am looking for a new rabbiting dog. Alot of where I go has dense bramble patches near one another, due to this I am after a dog with lightening take off speed. I also do a fair bit of lamping over more open ground. I was considering a track bred whippet so they will have a small percentage of greyhound blood in them. I have heard that these have a slight edge over pure whippets. I was talking to a bloke today and he said that the pure whippets have greater stamina and agility as track whippets are only bred to run a few hundred yards and in a straight line. Thoughts pleas
  18. Well done to both of you. Nothing like catching that first one.
  19. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing

  21. Hi there. Just joined so thought it best to introduce myself. I have been a falconer for the last 12 years and have flown long and short wings. Currently flying a cast of harris'. For the first time in ages I find myself without a lurcher as my brittany cross whippet died unexpectedly and I really miss her. What else... love ferrets and ferreting. Also keep pure polecats and keep a variety of other exotic mammals and reptiles.
  22. Harris' will take buzzards but its best to get the bird back on your fist if the buzzards start been interested in your bird. Buzzards may only have small feet but they have a really powerful grip. They will make a mess of your bird if it can.
