  1. Thanks for your reply. Only problem is that he is getting what he wants by chasing the rabbits anyway. Maybe if I wait for him to come back and them move on to more rabbits the penny will drop but it still means he is running wild though and I would like a bit more control. ta Ian
  2. Hello all. Need abit of advise please. My Sporting Lucas Terrier is now just over a year old and his nose is ruling over his ears. Generally his obiediance is good. Will sit and stay, drop at distance and his recall is fine. Now though his nose has woken up. When he gets on a fresh rabbit trail he becomes deaf. He will track that rabbit no matter the distance. I have tried putting him on a line and stopping him and really had to drag him back (he just freezes)and then praised him so cant be any bad associations with coming back to me. Tried this for a while but he still goes back to doin
  3. Hello there. Mine have managed to do this twice in their careers. On both occassions the talon grew back and it is just as strong but it will take most of the moult for it to match the others. If its just taken off the outer black sheath and left the inner white core showing I would feed her up and call an end to the season as any knocks may start it bleeding again. If the whole thing is broken off give her a bit of time for it to heal over and then its up to you whether you fly her again this season. Regards Ian
  4. I have tried it a few times with my birds but always had a problem with them flying right down the beam and blocking the light. Do you find this a problem and if so how do you overcome it? thanks Ian
  5. Nice looking pup. I was wondering the same as the original post as I have a 10 month old bitch pup as well. Found all the replies interesting. Judging from the replies so far giving her one or two runs is possible - let the fun begin. regards Ian
  6. swapped the battery and it seems to have cured the problem, in the house at least. Will give it a thorough testing at the weekend. Thanks for the advise, saved me having to send it off and waiting for its return and more importantly not getting out for a while. regards Ian
  7. Its not been used too much but I hope it is a simple solution like that. Thanks for the input.
  8. Hello there. Was hoping someone can explain to me why my mk 3 locator is doing something. Instead of the normal single repeating beep noise you normally get my locator is now making a series of connected beeps and the lights on the dial are showing a series of three in succession. The noise starts off with a low pitch and then gets higher as the lights quickly move across the display but the collar isn't moving any closer. Anyone know what this is about please? regards Ian

  10. Due to being let down by a buyer I have one male and one female chick available. Hatched 21/22 May 09. Parent reared on a varied diet. Reared in open fronted avairy so these birds come out steady but have not seen me provide food. Both parents are flown and hunted by me every year. Very steady birds. As deposit was already been paid male is £220 and female £260. Collection only from Telford, Shropshire. call on 01952 660416 or 07500060477 for further details. Regards Ian
  11. Small means fast and manoverable. Too many get sucked in with talks of high weights. Good luck with her and keep us posted on her progress please. Ian
  12. Got a young American Kez I am imprinting now. I love watching my mates gos going for pheasants in flight but dont like not seeing the end of the flight or the running cross god knows how many fields to find them. So am going for a scaled down version. Flew a musket briefly last season and loved it but wanted something that is a bit easier to keep in the hous - no slicing of the mutes. Regards Ian
  13. It does look wierd when you see them. Like has been said though it will grow back it just seems to take an age when you are constantly worrying about it.
  14. What a looker. Hope you have a great season with him. I know what its like waiting to start and seeing what they will do as I have a 8 month old whippet bitch here at the mo. She is sooo full of energy and I can't wait for the darker nights to start her on the lamp. All the best, Ian
  15. Great looking pup. Keep the pics coming as it grows.
  16. Nothing better than pushing rabbits with ferrets you have brought on to have them caught by your own bird. Deadly combination when all goes well. Summer waiting is a killer and it seems to get longer and longer. Another few years and I swear it will be Christmas before the vegetation dies back enough.
  17. Do you know why the tail is been damaged? Is it on the flooring? If so then as already mentioned putting carpet down may help though it will quickly foul with mutes. Astroturf can also shred the tips of the wings and tail so I would not personally use this. Is the leash getting caught up in the tail which may mean using a different perch.
  18. Unfortunately ferrets are one of the most undervalued creatures around. If you think of the number of rabbits they will hopefully bolt over their life time then £20 is a very small amount to pay. Unfortunately we can not change the world. I think you will be lucky to shift them all for that price. As has been said a good home is better than any money. Good luck with them and hope they go where they will be appreciated.
  19. If it was for the length of time they were out last night it might not be such a good idea. For certain there will be some mess to clean up when he gets back but still better than risking loosing the dogs in my opinion. If a complaint does go to Environmental Health they will measure the noise and ask the person to keep a diary. I don't know what point they will contact you - either before or after this point. I presume they will have to do it first to be fair to you and to make sure you are aware there is a problem. The diary will be a list of times the neighbours are disturbed by
  20. I found the Mark 3 took a little getting used to and the noise it produces annoys the hell out of me but you can turn it off and only use it on the final pin pointing stage. Both units are great but getting spares for the Mark 1 is not an option.
  21. Where abouts in Shropshire are u?
  22. This is one of those things you hear every so often. They can't be good workers if they are tame. Must be agressive. What rot!! If I am going to stick my hand down a rabbit hole the last thing I want to worry about is the ferret latching onto my fingers. Give me a soppy tame ferret anyday.
  23. Here's another one for you. Mum and babes and then the little one a few weeks later.
  24. I may have this wrong but have your work commitments changed again? If you dont think you had enough time for the harris why do think you will for another bird. Sorry if I missed this bit. I have to say that either a gos or a harris would be my choice for the land you have. A gos would be the more time expensive option. They ideally need to be flown at quarry almost every day. Have you tried to lamp with the Harris if you would like a diffrent experiance with one. The female may also like the hares and unlike a gos they seem to take the bashings a bit more in their stride. With a ha
