  1. After flying Harris's for about 15 years I have only used the telemetry a handfull of times but I would never consider flying the bird without it. Nothing to do with the cost of the bird but everything to do with the bond you build with them. A harris at true hunting weight will take on anything and fly any distance to get it. They can be very difficult to find when tucked under hedges, round buildings or even half way down rabbit holes.
  2. This does sound harsh but in truth if you are really considering owning a bird then its the best advice you can be given.
  3. Hello there. I get turkey poults and quail from the supplier just short of Warrington. She advertises on the IBR. Its not that far a drive from Telford and I would always use them over chicks as they have more substance to them. If you only want smallish quantities then give me a shout and I may be able to supply you with some. regards Ian
  4. Hello there. It could be. Depends on if the rabbits bolt or just pop up and down it there are that many holes. See if any local falconers want to give it a go next season. regards ian

    great day out

Went out the other day on a permission I haven't been on for a few years. I had a young female Harris and a Sporting Lucas terrier with me who hasn't really impressed me to date. My mate had his female and his young pointer with him. Place was loaded with rabbits. First area we tried was an old marsh which has dried out. Covered in reeds and long grass. We chucked the birds up into the surrounding trees and sent in the dogs. My terrier was mooching round and suddenly moved up a gear as he flushed a rabbit. Both birds came crashing down but missed due to the cover. Great flight though.

    Getting Footed

    - As soon as you touch the feet the bird will drive them in harder so its best to grin and bear it -easier said than done though, lol. Easiest way is if your bird never thinks you will steal food from it. While its eating start to condition your bird to having your hand round its feet. Start with a feather in case they lash out and then use the hand. I have been accussed of careless handling of food around my bird but she never lashes out. Down to handling and knowing your bird.
  13. Just got mine yesterday. great knife will get a lot of use.
  14. See you then mate. Can anyone explain one of lifes mysteries. I dont need any new equipment and haven't for several years but every time I go I end up spending a fortune.
  15. I would be interested so please post your pics when you have them. Should be a great way to achieve fitness in your bird when in the early stages of training. Far more realistic than running with a dummy bunny.
  16. Any thing bought from this op will be nothing less than superb. I originally bought one of his spike and knife sets for use with my hawks. As I prefer a smaller blade though I had one made to my reqirements which the op was more than happy to fit to my specification. I have also bought one of the smaller knives in the above pics and I love it. I own many knives and this is going to be one of favourites. As it had taken slightly longer than originally advised to make my knives I have today received two fire steels for free. They have matching wood handles to each of my knives and same coloured

  18. Pics of Mikes pup. Only wish I wasn't expecting a litter myself or I would have snatched this one. Cracking pup.
  19. You will not regret buying a knife from this chap. Top quality, blades retain their edge and look great as well.
  20. Thanks. It sure has woken her up. Shame they are off limits still last day out tomorrow so shouldn't find temptation coming my way.
  21. Best way to start is to find a local falconer and see if you can go out with them. Unfortunately lots are winding up for this season so you may need to be patient and wait till September time. In the mean time go to game fairs ask questions and read books. One tip when you think you realise how much time it takes, double it. It really does take over when done correctly. regards, Ian
