I considered it for a while but on the basis that I'm not the only capable dogman in the country I figure a shot at a decent life with someone else might just be better than knockin him on the head Must be nice to live in the land of "if's" fella, but some of us just do what we have to. -

Looking for a home for my young lurcher dog

After a lot of thought I've decided not to take my lurcher dog back to Australia with me, so I'm looking to rehome him. I'm not after money for him it's not about that to me. I could give him to a mate here and he would get work but would spend most of his time in the kennel. That's not what I'm after either. He comes to work with me every day and spends al ot of time in the field, not just weekend lamping. So basically I'm after a genuine dogman to take on my young dog, someone who will care for him and love him as well as work him hard. Now the dog; He's 16 months old, dam was a beddy/whip -
Pure Greyhounds in the field.
lampinglurcher replied to Thieving Mac's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'm with CorkyJohn here, unless you have a specific dog in mind you feel the need to put over a good greyhound then.. why? BeLucky either you got completely different greyhounds where you're from or there's a bit of fib telling going on... I've done dusk till dawn lamping and it takes a bloody huge toll on the dogs, unless maybe you have real easy running ground on just rabbits? Even a smart lurcher knocks up after a night of running fox or roe or hare.... Maybe I'm naive to greyhounds but the only one i ever saw "work" broke 3 toes in the first hour of daylight mooching on the mo -
Ha! I got you now yeah you're spot on, had to read through that a couple times Got no pics of the sire or dam to hand, couldn't tell you any fancy names in his pedigree but he doo's his job well
-
Just thought i'd chuck another up now I've got the hang of it
-
very sure, his dam was, and broken coated He's 23" tts, put next to a 3/4 whippet you can see there's something else in there Not had a dog quite like him before, he's just.. different.
-
His sire was collie/grey lurcher to lurcher bred i believe, his dam's a 3/4 beddy whippet. And he's about 15 months old
-
Breeze your dogs look a similar stamp to my young dog

Hi all, selling my spare set of 205/80/16 general grabber AT's, the tyres have done no more than 200 miles, almost perfect nick. Rims are standard landy white steelys. If anyone's keen i can take a photo, but im sure you can imagine tyres..

R.s.p.c.a case Lurcher man needs help!
lampinglurcher replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Maybe there's something I'm not getting here, how valuable can any one man's time be? How many hours has he put into it? 10k sounds like a shitload of money to pay for a guy who's meant to be on our side.. -
Don't think you'd go far wrong there Wales1234 Like I said earlier, it's a case of horses for courses, if you hunt open plains or moorland, or even predominantly large open fields a bull/whippet is obviously a poor choice.

Paulus do you mean lack of stamina on the run or through a hard day/night's graft? A mate of mine has one, i've seen it in action enough and it's not wanting for endurance - at least down here. I imagine she'd be pretty useless on a good winter hare on the fens, but on the same note i reckon even a decent saluki could be made to look a fool in tight cornish fields with heavy cover... Horses for courses etc, but they can make a useful addition to the team, one of the fastest , most reckless dogs i've seen through cover. Edited to add, might be worth mentioning, she does spend a fair bit
