i suppose you could rig yourself out for about £500 quid ,and yes its quite alot but compaired to the layout needed for other hobbies its not a great amount .when i started ferreting i tagged along with others for a year or so and bought my gear as i went along spreading the cost.i picked stuff up off forums from people who were packing in and oftain got other stuff chucked in as i was just starting out.now ive got my ferreting gear it should last years i now only buy equipment if i realy need it or i think its better than what ive got.it dont matter what hobby youve got it all costs money ,wh

ive not got the greatest experence of working lurchers but iv trained racing greyhounds ,the worst thing you can do is to be tempted into running your dog too early ,in my eyes too many people run there dogs too early whilst there still developing ,and are mentally imature. if your dogs been badly injured your doing the right thing by building the fitness up slowly and giving the dog every oppertunity to recover .as the dogs only young i wouldnt worry too much as its still only a baby and its got the best years in front of it ,youve done the hard bit by caging the dog and short walking for 13

ive given my dogs meaty pork bones with no ill effects ,and i always feed raw, as a rule my dogs have eaten meaty pork bones at least once or twice per week,i asked about feeding pork on another forum and ive been assured that its ok in sensible amounts .but its like anything else new i always give the dogs a small amount first to see how they react.if my memory is correct i think pork has about 2 1/2 times more fat than chicken.

most of the locals give me £1.50 for a rabbit ,i did have a butcher offer me £1each gutted and skinned ,i told him i would rather give them to the dog or away for free, rather than take his pound ,he sells them for a £5 each the cheecky bas*ard. to be honest i can sell far more than i catch ,i also feed the dogs a barf diet and eat them myself .i also give a few away to elderly relatives who love em ,keeps me in a few peoples good books and ive had many favors returned ......jim

after last weeks impressive haul on yorkshirehunters permission (24 rabbits ) plans were maid for another outing this weekend .yorkshirehunter also invited royston off this site whos been struggleing to gain his own permission (hes had a post up in the permission wanted section ) he drove from sheffield and met me in leeds then we doubled up and headed east to the malton area a 50+ mile drive , it was real foggy but we still managed our 8.30 am meet with yorkshirehunter .we headed straight to the area where we were to work , we unloaded the car collared up the ferrets .once again the field w

last week i was browsing the fieldsport oppertunities section and someone was offering a days ferreting nr malton about 50miles from where i live ,so i maid a phone call and made plans for saturday meet at 8.30 am.the guy said theres plenty of rabbits to go at .so saturday morning came 6 ferrets boxed up 2 x 50yd longnets 50 pursenets and 20 quids worth of fuel,i left home at 7.30am and arrived just about on time as arranged ,luckily his permission was only about 1/2 a mile away .when we arrived all equipment was unloaded from the car ferrets collared up we then headed to a small field ,when w

as already said go and knock in person and hand them a letter put in the letter ,that you will always ring before going on there land ,also state that its there land and there rules, also say that you also want to do one off ferreting jobs ,this way the farmer can see how you perform befor commiting himself ,dress smart and be polite (even if there not )first impression is everthing ,its taken me over 2 years to get some decent permission and now i have loads but im being watched like a hawk ,as the farmer just dont trust anyone .but the top and bottom is hes got plenty of rabbits that he needs

if they are youngsters get them running through some old drain pipe first from a young age ,when they come out the other end pick them up gently ,ive found if i do this with my youngsters i have very little problem getting them going ,if there not so keen you could also try working them with an older ferret that knows the score ,this would also let you know that there was something in the burrow .you may have been entering your ferrets into empty sets so it might seem like there not working .as has already been said dont just give up keep trying them if all else fails try buying a couple of go

j316 ,hi mate i take it your dogs pi##ing in its bed (unless im reading it wrong ).if thats the problem you could try placing a a piece of plywood on brackets above its bed ,depending on how big your dog is, you fix the ply at a hight that your dog is not able to squat or cock its leg (lets say 2and a a half feet high )your dog would be able to still get into its bed but wouldnt be able to get comfortable enough to have a pi#s.once you have broken the habit just remove the ply .i tried this when i raced greys and it worked for me .hope this helps ....jim

this is a picture of my court (6 foot long 2.5 foot wide and 2.5 foot high with 2 floors) and a ramp joining top and bottom. I built it inside my lockup that has a roller shutter door, so there is no need to weather proof the front all the doors on the front open for easy cleaning. and the top and bottom can be closed off when the hob and jills are in season.

i got a 50yd quickset with basket a couple of weeks ago from master hunter , ive used ut twice and cought 23 rabbits .its a lot lighter than my other quickset long net and basket, and very easy to use the poles are real quality and very light and nothing snags when you run the net in or out .i would NOT say it catches any better than my cheeper net and basket and it cost a few quid more .so to sum it up the master hunter set up is well made ,very light weight ,a easy to use as it doesnt snag easily ,and the basket material doesnt get cought on brambles or thorns . its a bit more expensive ,but

Niggling injury, slight limp after exercise.
jimster68 replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
why not look at taking your dog to see an DOG OSTEOPATH/MUSCLEMAN someone like ROBERT MEEK most osteopaths visit greyhound racing kennels and will tell you when there visiting your area .they are used to diagnosing working dog injurys and its a lot cheeper option than a vets they dont normally offer xrays or medication just tell you whats bothering your dog and the best treatment for it .robert meek charges about £10 ,and he checks over top class greyhounds up to derby standard ,he also is well respected by the whippet racing community ,hope this helps....jim -

i only feed raw meat (mainly from durham animal feeds ) tinned pilchards 1 or 2 times per week ,raw rabbit (cant get enough of it ),1 egg each once per week ,a small amount of liver approx the size of a 50p piece 2 times per week ,i started feeding raw 3 years ago and the dogs have never looked better ,brilliant white teeth ,no doggy breath ,nice shiney coat ,and the only crap about a third of the amount they used to, i also find its as cheep or cheeper than buying kibble and you know what there eating ,on rare occasions they get the odd bit of veg or left over dinner .

what do you expect when buying or selling
jimster68 replied to pestcontrol121's topic in General Talk
ive bought a few things on here ,firstly i always get them to send me a contact number so i can call them to discuss price and hopefully knock a few quid off (i dont insult people with silly offers )and if i was selling something i wouldnt expect anyone else not to do the same .i then drive to see what im getting so i try not to buy things miles away (ive drove up to 100 miles for something if ive wanted it )i wouldnt send cash to a complete stranger unless they didnt mind me pming a few people who they were in regular contact with off the site to verify there good name ,if i was selling somet -
