Thanks I had never knowingly seen one until a few months ago either. A mate of mine is well into taking pictures of them and I tagged along a few times. I have now got used to their call and hear one most days, they are surprisingly common but still not that easy to photograph as they never stay still. When I locate one and have my camera it is just a mater of waiting for them to be inquisitive and get used to me standing their waiting.

I have a couple of spots now where I have had some luck taking pictures of these, 2 of them are car parks which is useful apart from the amount of people who keep coming up and asking what I am taking photos of. Photographing muntjac
PINNACLE replied to Parabuteos lad's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
The British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield Wildlife centre have a few captive in their Red Squirrel enclosure, they are not the easiest to photograph and you are looking down on them but there are quite a few other animals and birds there to make up for it. It is also quite a bit further but it is the only place I know with muntjac. -

I am still chasing Goldcrest's, took this in a car park so no real hunting, speedlight for lighting seems to work with these. Goldcrest by Martin Billard, on Flickr

My first trip out yesterday spent a few hours looking for Goldcrests and ended up getting this one in the car park on the way back to my car. The light had gone so had to used the pop up flash on the camera. Not just you, I have tried explorer, chrome and safari and this site is so slow. I can get through over half a dozen pages on other sites whilst one uploads here. It was never like that. As for new layout I think it will take a few weeks to check it out if the pages ever load.

Yes it is a Bittern and a very sad sight as they are not that numerous according to the RSPB
