  1. Duckwing I have not been able to get any liquid calcium as pet shops have not heard of it and the couple of chemists I have been into only seem to sell calcium with a mix of other stuff as calciun needs iron to disolve apparently. Where do you get yours from? Our chickens are in a large enclosure with trees plants and a bit of grass so plenty of bugs and they always have access to grit. This seems to be a one off so stress might have been the reason and it could have been crows. There seems to be loads about and they are getting brave and have been coming down around the chickens but
  2. Just a thought, how much do you give them and how?
  3. Thanks for the tip will try it out.
  4. One of our chicken laid this a couple of days ago never seen anything like it before and was wondering what might be wrong.
  5. I am but I need to get my vet to sign a letter and she wants to see the dog again which means another £22 and waiting until Tuesday. I am thinking of doing the treatment through our insurance as I am up to £75 already and if the therapy if ongoing it won’t be cheap. I will let you know if it works but it might take a few goes I think, as well as rest. I am also going to try Body Talk which is holistic (a kind of alternative medicine similar to acupuncture but without needles). I have had it done a few times for aches, pains, and also not sleeping and it works a treat. Our baby sit
  6. I don't see the point of a taking a dog when using an air rifle I never shoot past 40yrds at live quarry so it is never far to walk and I have very few runners. I usually leave rabbits until I have a few so not to give my hide away and the only troublesome retrieves I have are pigeons stuck in trees. You will be hard pushed to keep any dog still and quite for long if you took one out shooting with an air rifle let alone a beagle. I have a Lurcher and go out quite often with a mate of mine who has a beagle and I have to say in my opinion a beagle would have to be one of the worst dogs t
  7. Not pre ban photos but don't say anything The beagle never wins
  8. I don't know much about the Porta Mag but I do sympathise with you as my bitch has been out of action and on the lead for just two weeks with a muscle injury and she and I both hate it. I took mine to an osteopath first to find out what was wrong. Getting her to rest is impossible as she has mad half hours and goes charging round the house and becomes lame again. This morning I have been looking into hydrotherapy after advice from someone who was told there lab would be better of being PTS three years ago due to an injury and it was bolting around like a good one this morning. So
  9. I am after some advice please, on what is the best way to store and back up my photos where and how? Before I got my DSLR it was easy but now I am really taking up space on my PC and I have an 8GB and two 4GB SD cards to empty. I was thinking of a dedicated external hard drive is this best or just stick with DVD’s or both? Is it best to keep storing them in date order or change to subject matter? At the moment I can pretty much remember what of and when I took a certain photo but as time go by this will become more difficult. I realise it might be down to personal preference
  10. Got that and thanks. Our vet insisted on looking at the dog before letting me take her to an osteopath the charged me for it, she was not sure what was wrong and even suggested xrays. New vet on the way!! The osteopath I went to figured out it was a pulled muscle in about 10 minutes, gave the dog a good massage and advised on short walks on the lead and take it easy for a couple of weeks. Harsh on the dog but looks like no lasting damage.
  11. Another vote for chicken carcases. I give ours few carcases each week and her teeth are pristine even the vet commented on them yesterday. Our local butcher gives me chicken carcases and bones for free and I only usually buy a handful of sausages and bacon each week with the odd tub of livers now and then and a £50 turkey at Chistmas. I have offered to take in a few rabbits but he said there was not much call for them which is a surprise as I am always being asked for more from friends and family.
  12. It is a remote controlled collar that blows a puff of air under the dogs chin, it does no harm just distracts them. I got a Dynavet Masterplus Pro (do a search on line) in the end as it came highly recommended. The only down side is it takes a £6 battery and it only lasted two months.
  13. I never thought of that as a treatment but it makes sense. I have had a look on the net and left a couple of messages for people. I called our old vets to be who did not know of any one. I am near Guildford, Surrey but will travel if you have a number that would be great.
  14. I got a second hand air collar off an auction site for my one year old as we had the same problem. She would chase horses, sheep, deer and our cat endlessly. We tried taking her fields with sheep and down to my wifes livery yard but it was all too much of a game for her. I am sure in time we would have cracked it but it would meant having to keep her on the lead for a lot of walks. They are not cheap but it worked as we can now take her off the lead through a deer park, a field full of sheep and she now is starting going out with the wife when she is riding. She still chases the cat though
  15. My dog is a bit lame after a big play with a few other dogs on Sunday. I noticed it more yesterday when she was chasing a ball so I took it easy after that with her just walking and having a mooch in the morning and the same in the afternoon. This morning she seemed fine until half way round our usual walk when she kept pestering me to throw her ball and it was then that I noticed she is still running funny at full stretch. She does not seem to be in pain but has a definite Jack Russell type hop over walking speed and does not stretch out fully at speed. She is a fit energetic 1 year
  16. Good looking dog whats it like on the chase?
  17. I've been a townie for most of my 40 odd years but this does not make me or millions of others an anti it is just a way of life and very few support the ban. I personally don't know any. My wife and I had always aspired to live in the country and when we had children the need became greater. So we moved and now that it’s on our doorstep we love it. My wife has her own horse. I traded playing golf in favour of clay shooting which led me to get a few permissions which bring in rabbit, pigeon and game when in season to the table. It was my shotgun first, and then air rifles and FAC was ne
  18. Great pics and dogs and I sure wished I lived somewhere like that, it beats the Surrey Hills hands down.
  19. She knows where they are and has had a few. But its a bit unfair that they keep running down holes.
  20. Thats it! She is ONE today and still plays in puddles. What a year and now the work starts to get her ready for next season.
  21. You did say have a go. Which strangely looks like this upside down, which is how I saw it when snapping The other end where I won £43 in the arcade later (POT OF GOLD) And another rainbow in the way.
  22. Great looking dogs and don't they grow up quick.
  23. Please keep the pup to adult(ish) photos coming they are all great and how cool is Goose for a name. Cheers for the comments she is a beaut in our eyes too. Not sure exactly of the cross as we got her from Celia Cross Greyhound rescue as a pup. We do know her mum is Greyhound x Saluki. Dad could be a Beddy, Deerhound, Yorkshire Terrier, German Shepherd (Heinz 57) cross. What I do know is she thinks she is a Saluki and can off when ever she likes. This is the rest of the litter at 8 weeks.
  24. It is amazing how time flies and how a dog can change. She has eaten the arms off the sofa almost killed one of our chickens chased the cat, bikes, runners, other dogs, cars and deer as well as the usual rabbits and squirrels. Had no recall and stressed me out on every walk for 7 months to the point of almost giving her away but now she is as good a gold (well almost) and we love her. I know we still have trouble ahead but also I know it will be worth the effort in the end. Just thought I would share a happy moment and a few pictures. to and this to this
