Oh yes.And you are next Limper 18. :tongue4: :tongue4: :tongue4:

well at least it made me laugh.

It should not be up to other people to put the dog in its place. The dog should already know its place. And if it doesnt then surely that is the owners fault. Sort it out now before it seriously damages someone.Or sell it like you sold the last aggresive one.

my perfect alrounder would be a dog that does not refuse to run. or pick and choose its runs. jmo. atb stabba.

Some very good points there mate !!!!!!! did you get my pm fazza mate

My dogs have access to this type of land on a near every day basis shanoe mate. Its all down to grey matter and practice. Put them on open fields and they will work totally different.
-
well imo you take a pup on that land you carrying it home but we all have opinions and mine is rough ground is no place for a dog which hasn't matured or grown into his feet Im afraid you misunderstood me SmartDog. A youngster needs to be introduced to this type of land gradually. Do not for 1 minute think that id cavvort a 6month old pup round this land. It would be introduced steadily ie short walks on lead watching older dogs at work. Only in maturity would it be allowed free reign. I hope i have made myself clear this time. atb stabba.

Imo a dog needs to do its growing up on land like that if it has any chance of excelling on that sort of land. Stick a dog on land like that that has only done field work and youll be carrying your dog home. Fortunatley i have land similar to this within 10 minutes walking distance from home. also open fields so im spoiled for any kind of terrain i choose. Coupled with plenty of road work my dogs have good hardy feet. atb stabba

Good on you mate. Perhaps one of the best desicions you will ever make.

I live in a mining community. My bitches get excercised nearly every day on the old slag heaps left behind. Rabbits and hares are in abbundance here. I think a dog that has never been on this type of land would require huge vet bills. although mine grew up on land such as this so can cope very well. Sure there are scrapes and suchlike but ive never had a serious lay off through it. atb stabba

Shaneo mate. You would not believe some of the ground my girls and i have to work on. some of it would even make a mountain goat think twice. Good feet, good heart and a good head are what is requierd to be in my kennels. If my standards seem a little high to some people then im sorry but my dogs love there work and would die for me if need be. Any thing less is just that. Less is not something i want in my kennels. atb stabba

Im sorry mate. Most of my replies have been on lamping. Day time work is a totally different kettle of fish. You are correct in that a dog needs to be steady and level headed to work day time bunnies. although on land such as yours a dog would soon learn to steady down or quiet simply end up crippled or worse. ive worked my bitches in places like that and they soon adapt to there surroundings. they are no less keen but set about there work with a bit more stealth should we say. I and my girls take work where we can find it and for bullxes they shine at everything i have thrown at them. Except

Scenario. Picture the scene. Youve been lamping for a good 2 hours. Every rabbit youve seen has been in the hedge bottom. Now how many of you men (and women) who have a dog that wont entrtain these rabbits wouldnt secretly be wishing that there dog would snap out of this stubborn streak or whatever you prefer to call it and grow some nuts and at least have a go. infact if ever you do have a nite like that give me a call and my girls will happily mop a few of them up for you. atb stabba

I think "does this dog reall want it" spring to mind mate. atb stabba.

it,s the dog useing it head all lurcher x will do the same thing not just collie x bub atb keano Wrong wrong wrong keano. all lurcherx dont pull up. ive got 2 bitches here that will try thier hearts out no matter what the quarry and no matter how far away it is. imo its usually the "too bright for its own good" collie x that does this. Ive owned them and got rid of them. any dog that pulls up is of no use to me. atb stabba well stabba i have a beardie cross he just hit 2 years and he wont run what he can't catch although the land i run is mainly quarry land so he realises he cant c

Keano. Not once did i mention the breed of my lurchers until shaneo asked me. ime 42 years old and been in the running dog game ever since i was big enough to look after my own dog. i did not and do not intend to turn this into a bullx v colliex slanging match. im replieing through experience with just about all breeds of running dogs not because i think 1 breed is better than another. If you look through this thread i did state that the colliex is the king of all rounders. atb stabba

And 1 other thing. JEPPI STOP STALKING ME LOL

I have 2 bullx bitches shaeo. Now before everyone starts with the "eeerrr bullx mentality" these bitches work to a high standard. any one can come and see my bitches in action on legal quarry and youll probably leave with a different view of the breed. Like ive already stated theyve got to be decent to stay in my kennels. atb stabba.

Not nonsence Frost , fact. You can take 100 of all firstx lurchers and the 1 with the highest pulling up rate or refusing to run rate will be the collie x . fact. It is very rare that you hear people comlain about this except in the collie blooded community. Im not saying that it doesnt in other breeds but the collie x imo is the highest offender. Prove me wrong please if you can. atb stabba.

Personally for me if a dog pulls up, or refuses to run just doesnt want it. providing its not injured or just too plain tired. For some reason the vast majority of dogs that do this are collie blooded animals. Too bright for there own good? Who knows.Still king of the allrounders though imo. atb stabba.

Fair point Trigger. I never said my dogs dont miss. Nor did i say they caught everything they shouldnt have. My point being a dog that refuses to run quarry fullstop has not got a place with me. The original question was about pulling up or refusing to run. For example. My friend and i were out doing a spot of rabbiting. It was his slip. His colliex refused to run because the rabbit was too near the hedge. I slipped instead with my non collie blooded bitch which mopped the rabbit up. This happened 3 times that night. All 3 rabbits were taken by my "non oulling up bitch". Point proved i think.

ok then keano. how many times have your dogs caught tackle what you thought they should never have caught. My dogs do this regular. if i had a colliex that thought "oh fcuk that its too far away, or in the hedge bottom" i know for a fact that my end of the nite tally would be a damn site lighter. I do not wish injurys on my dogs either through stupidness on my part or through sheer tenacity on there part. my dogs are run and run hard. if they were injury prone or not up to the job in hand then quiet simply they wouldnt be in my kennels. atb stabba
